“The Tuscan Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2009

My partner and I have always loved Italy, the culture, the friendly people and their way of life and this holiday, in the Tuscan region, did not disappoint us.
The Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing seemed too much trouble. Forte Dei Marmie is an expensive region, but the Hotel Staff were only too willing to help gain a little discount for those days on the beach. We were lent a bike each for the day and cycled 14k, legs a little tired the next day, but very enjoyable.
The Wednesday and Sunday Market is a must, but take plenty of cash if you want a local bargain!
Yes, unfortunately there were more than a few mosquitoes, but if you are aware, you can take plenty of repellent. I found they dislike Jungle Formula.
The meals were cooked to a very high standard and pleasantly presented. Salad bar excellent, Tuscan food at its best - plenty of everything for a continental breakfast. Having a trip out was no trouble either if you would be missing your breakfast, just notify the Restaurant or Reception and they would ensure it was organised.
We had quite a good sized, quiet room with balcony at the rear of the hotel, which was cleaned daily, sheets changed four times during our two week stay. Towels changed daily, without asking. The hotel will provide beach and pool towels at no extra cost – that will save on the luggage allowance.
I would say it costs nothing to ask, the staff were very helpful and always willing to please.
On a final note the Thompson Crew were great and always there to help with any problems – thank you for helping make our holiday a very memorable experience.

“Excellent Three Star Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2009

This holiday exceeded all of my expectations. The Hotel Mignon is what you would expect in Italy where the world's best hoteliers come from. All of the staff - reception, housekeeping and restaurant were exceptional. You felt that they really cared.
We stayed half-board and found that all of the meals - breakfast and dinner were typically Italian - excellent! If you are going out on a trip and are going to miss dinner - no problem, you can have lunch instead. Breakfast was choice of beverage - for us copious good coffee, and cereals, bread, panini, croisants, ham, cheese etc etc. Dinner is a buffet salad bar and three further courses with a selection from 3 choices for each course. Portion sizes were spot on for a 4 course meal. Each course is individually cooked for you - only the salad bar is buffet service. The resort was also excellent. Forte Dei Marmi centre is a pleasant 10 minutes walk away from the hotel. Go there - see how the other half live. Ferraris are commonplace. You can buy a fur coat ON THE MARKET! for 3,500 Euros. Some shops, cafes and bars are more expensive than the norm for Italy, but not all of them. Public transport again is typically Italian - excellent. Reliable, cheap, comfortable and on-time. Lucca and Pisa are about an hour away. Go to Forte Dei Marmi, go to the Mignon, enjoy.

“Reasonable hotel.....expensive but gorgeous resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2008

I have recently returned from a one week stay in this hotel, booked through Thomson online. The hotel is small but the rooms were comfortable although the shower cubicle had a very small opening and a fuller figure would struggle to get in!! You will need heavy duty mosquito spray as these are a problem all around the hotel area. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Meals in the restaurant were variable - get in early otherwise they run out and the salad bar (good!) isn't replenished. We had no problem with the Italian type menu just the fact that things ran out so often and sometimes the quality was poor (especially the meat dishes). We had some great meals and also some dire ones; very hit and miss.
Forte Dei Marmi is a stunning resort with the Apuan Alps as a backdrop. It is the haunt of the Italian glitterati e;g the corner shop is Prada. All the designers have a shop here ( no prices in the window though, and all staffed by wannabe models!). The beaches are fab......however you have to pay heavily to gain access. We had to pay 40 euro perday for two chairs, one sunbed and a brolly, and this is on the beach that the hotel has an arrangement with. You have to pay as the beaches are private and if you want to relax by the sea, this is the cost. We were unprepared for this and it made abig hole in our budget. We loved the resort, loved our visits to Siena and San Gimingnano and would go to the area again. Hotel Mignon, not so sure, but we have stayed in worse!

“lovely little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2007

Just got back from a weeks stay at the Mignon, and after reading some of the negative reviews, we were a bit concerned, but on arrival our worries disapeared, lovely welcoming staff, a very clean comfortable room, spotless bathroom, and very nice balcony. the food each evening was excellent, good choices, well presented and served by lovely friendly waiters.
Forte dei Marmi resort centre, about a ten minute stroll away, very expensive shops, but fun to window shop, an excellent market every Wednedsay morning, some nice bars restaurants in the square, buses to Virraregio run every 20 past the hour where you connect with buses/trains to Pisa,Florence,Lucca v ery easliy, Virraregio itself nice town to have a stroll around also, plently of eateries, shops etc.
Pietrasanta also very near, and worth having a look at, lovely square, art gallieries, shops etc.
We enjoyed a lovely week met some lovely people, and for a three star hotel there was nothing to complain about at all, so go and enjoy!

“A pleasurable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2007

We are a couple in our early 50's, holidaying by ourselves. We found the Hotel Mignon, very friendly and clean, the staff are very obliging.

The meals were Tuscan, so if you don't enjoy the Italian food, I wouldn't suggest you go to Italy. We loved every meal, although there wasn't much choice on the menu.

The swimming pool and small terrace is on the roof and would be a problem if you had children. However, customers using this hotel can also use the facilities at their sister Hotel Mirabeau about 5-10 minute walk away inc. sauna, gym, jacuzzi, pool, sunbeds etc. which is well worth a visit.

We did know about the Beach Establishments before we went, but for us, was the opportunity to see some sights and not waste precious time sunbathing. A day on the beach could cost anything from 30 euros upwards for 2 sunbeds, table, deckchairs and a parasol. The beaches are imaculate but very expensive and if I had one criticism it would be this.

Dogs are allowed in the hotel but sightings of animals was very minimal. Yes, the birds do pop into the restaurant now and again but that's only because its on the outside of the building.

Overall our week was very pleasurable, we met some lovely friends and a walk around Forte dei Marmi is a pleasure by itself.

We would recommend that you keep an open mind and make your own decisions. What we shouldn't have done, is read the reports on this Hotel before our visit.
