“Good base for business, or a holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2015

I'm continually visiting Finale Ligure whilst working with Piaggio who have moved from the old traditional factory in Finale to a state of the art factory in Villanova.
The Grand Hotel Moroni was a pleasant base for the four of us colleagues, it was my second stay in Finale first at the Moroni
My room was large modern and well equiped wifi was free.
There a lot of restaurants nearby, the beach is across the road, I had a great view of the sea from my room.

A stylishly elegant hotel; a superb location on the sea front in a lovely town; cheerful, thoughtful staff throughout; great facilities; reasonable prices. Who could ask for anything more?

We were thrilled by Grand Hotel Moroni from the moment we pulled up in front. [Q] "Where should we park our car after the bags are taken in?" [A] "Three options. First. if you just want to leave the car for an hour or so, use the pay-and-display public parking in front of the hotel: but that gets expensive quickly. If you want overnight or longer term parking, we can offer you covered parking for €20 per day, a short walk away; or open air parking for €12 per day directly behind the hotel." Few hotels offer so much choice. And, yes, an hotel porter came along to assist us find our designated parking and to make sure that our vehicle was secure.

Our room was superb. #501, a spacious, perfectly equipped corner room, with a large balcony facing the beach, but with views also to the southeast, including the castle. Comfortable beds and totally soundproof. Awaking before dawn, went out onto the balcony, and bats were scooting around in the darkness, pinging for their insect prey.

The bar? Just beautiful.

The dining room, which we only used for breakfast? Well, it was our bad luck to come down just as a tour group of locusts had done their best to demolish the buffet offerings. Or so we thought. But, no, it was our good luck. A waiter noticed our plight, and assured us that, if we would not mind waiting for a few minutes, the kitchen would be replenishing all buffet supplies. Alternatively, however, would we perhaps prefer fresh plates of eggs and bacon, instead of waiting for the cheese and cold cuts? No extra charge, of course!

Upon departure, an hotel porter carried our bags out to load our car and make sure that we exited the car park safely. Another thoughtful, final touch.

I can't praise this hotel highly enough. Excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room on the southeast corner.

We happened across The Grand Moroni through TA and thought it read as good value accommodation in a location of Italy we had never been too previously. We weren't disappointed and would definitely stay here again. Admittedly we were in the shoulder season (early April 2014) but the tariff was very reasonable for the great location directly across from the beautiful beach and with good shopping, cafes and restaurants nearby. The foreshore is well planted and large palms protect the hotel from any sea breeze and yet give you a good view of the sea itself between the fronds.
The room we had was smartly finished, clean and comfortable. The balcony opened directly overlooking the palms and beach. We did find the bed quite hard though and bordering on uncomfortable but there again it is a personal thing and may be a bother to others.

Overall the hotel is classically furnished with dark wood , wall paintings and display cases of pocket watches and chinaware. Marble floors and tiles with rugs complete the look. All very nice overall and seemed to attract older groups as an observation. At one point we thought we were in an old persons home when we came into the lobby but is a quiet, classy, well located hotel with all you need.
The staff were friendly and helpful and as the only english speaking guests we were made comfortable in our exchanges. The dining and breakfast room is roomy, light and clean and we enjoyed a well supplied breakfast of fruits, cereal, cakes and pastries and eggs to order and cooked in front of you. All lovely and traditional. I cannot think of one negative and I'm trying !
Our room was made up while at breakfast and this was welcomed when returning. We requested softer pillows and they were brought to the room inside 10 minutes. Oh I thought of a negative - the plastic cups provided in the room. A couple of glasses would have been nice.

We did not eat dinner in the restaurant so cannot comment. There are plenty of eating out options in the town only a stroll away and I'd suggest they offer better value. In fact we found prices in Finale very reasonable compared to France and Switzerland and good value. The food was authentic italian and there were no tourists we could see apart from the Italians themselves.

We loved Finate Ligura Marina and the Grand Hotel Marina. A Gem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony looking to the seafront. This is the difference between a great stay t...

Our room was wonderful - with a balcony overlooking the sea front. The room was spacious, clean and the electric shutters meant we weren't kept awake on a night by people enjoying their holiday in the early hours. There was air conditioning too so we weren't too hot. The breakfast was really good and the service from the staff all you could want. Really secure parking. There were open air music concerts and firework displays in the nearby square on an evening. There are lots of restaurants etc. nearby. It is quite expensive to go to the beach. It cost us 150 euros for four and a half days for an umberella and 2 sun beds - and that was with the discount from the hotel. But the beach was immaculately clean and good for families. The public beach was packed and not so clean. I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is ideally located, directly across the stretch of beach in Finale Ligure. The hotel rooms are clean, neat and functional. However there are a few gripes;
The air conditioning only blows hot. So if you need cool air, the doors must be open. This means mosquitos come in and also the noise from the bars next door. It is really difficult to sleep when it's warm.
There is no 'welcome book' or room service menus. No information about the hotel at all.
Most of the staff are friendly, however one man in particular was rude, arrogant and completely unhelpful. It made the experience not so nice.
Parking is 18 euros per day underneath the building or 12 euros open air behind the building. I think this is pretty standard for european hotels.
The wifi in the rooms is terrible. Constantly drops out and disconnects but you can log on ok in the foyer area.
The cafe next door serves great coffee and pastries, worth a visit for sure.

Room Tip: Standard rooms have a glimpse of the sea, but can be very noisy.
