“Great time in borgo muratori”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

My wife and myself traveled to liguria last weekend we stayed in a lovely and cosy place called Agriturismo Borgo Muratori close to Diano Marina. We got a really big and comfortable accomodation named "Casa Emi". The place and the gardens around were amazing and we had also a private place there to take the sun or have relax in the shadow. Really happy with that. We were impressed by the cordiality and niceness of the owner Ms. Maura. During our stay we had the lucky chance to try the delicious "Troffie al pesto" prepared by Mr Giuseppe.

Highly recommended!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Liguria in April, 2011. We spent half our trip on the Levante side of Liguria, where we lived for a few years a decade ago, and then moved on to the Ponente side, near the French border, and Agriturismo Borgo Muratori. We always prefer places slightly off the tourist track, and Borgo Muratori was an inspired (and lucky) choice. Set in a hillside olive grove, the small complex is made up of a refurbished 3-storey main house—once a fortress, then a convent, then a residence—and several dependent stone structures. All have been lovingly converted to a fine lodging by proprietress Maura Muratorio. She grew up on this property in the hills above Diano Marina, near Bordighera, an area awash in flowers and fine gardens. (Maura has written two books on the botanical garden Villa Hanbury.) From most of the very handsome apartments are views down to the sparkling Med. Maura is a generous and vibrant hostess who lives on the property and so is able to help guests structure their visits. She once taught English, so can make her way linguistically for those who do not speak Italian or French. The big main house now contains 3 spacious apartments, all with modern, well designed bathrooms and kitchens. Il Melograno is a separate, 2-storey structure, again beautifully redesigned by an architect/friend whose attention to detail and fine finishings matches Maura's. Much of the estate's history has been preserved (vaulted ceilings, heavy wood doors, antique furnishings) while new windows open onto great views and terraces provide seating for lounging and reading. The overall feeling is of understated, tasteful ease and tranquillity. There is a laundry facility for guests—people generally come for several weeks at a time, it seems—and the stone mill where olives were crushed in centuries past is now a tasting room / private museum as well as the occasional venue for special meals (on request). We would return in a heartbeat. The drive down to the coast or up into the hills is easy and scenic, and Maura provides ample information about nearby points of interest, including Cervo and Varigotti, two lovely coastal towns. There are markets and specialty food shops in Diano Marina for stocking your kitchen. The nearest big airports are those of Milan, Genoa, and Nice.
