“Traditional service in A1 position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

This is a very good hotel in the heart of Cortina. Fabulous old fashioned service and good restaurant. Good sized rooms are well furnished with plenty of storage.
You can get modern anywhere and not know what country you are in let alone what city. De la Poste has plenty of character. It was frustrating we had no wifi reception in our room. Treacherous trek to the ski room. And the bed was pretty lumpy. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed the warm and caring staff in this very clean family-run hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a view to the Socrepes ski area.

Having stayed in a few of the "Grand Dame" hotels of Europe over the years I was a little leery of the De la Poste. Sometimes they are threadbare relics of another age getting by on location and discounting to groups.

De la Poste was a delight. I loved my large airy room with balcony providing great views of town and the mountains -- and a huge well equipped bath. Everything in the room was in excellent shape and immaculately clean.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. Many excellent restaurants and bars nearby. Don't know how it is in winter ski season but it was a perfect place to spend a few nights in Cortina.

Yes, it's not a modern boutique hotel with the latest gadgets, that's the point: it's a Grand Dame - a great lady that is still in her prime.

Grand four star hotel in center of Cortina on the pedestrian mall adjacent to the church. Although Cortina is a ski town in winter and a mountain sport center in summer, this hotel feels more like a city hotel. Staff is friendly, helpful and all speak good English. Rooms are large, comfortable, and many have balconies. Bathrooms are large. Housekeeping does a good job. Some sides of the hotel have street noise because the traffic in Cortina becomes heavy at certain times of the day. Breakfast was disappointing and closer to a continental breakfast than the usual full breakfast of a mountain hotel. We did not eat dinner in the hotel but there are excellent restaurants in Cortina.

This is a fantastic place . So far from the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton you could ever be.
It is an icon that has been there for years , generation after generation has enjoyed their vacation here , not much has changed .The staff is the same , the food is absolutely delicious The rooms are sufficient , but far from a junior suite at the Mandarin Oriental.
Yes the ski room is a joke , but that's part of the package.
If you are a die hard skier , maybe not for you , but if you want to enjoy an mountain vacation with a lot of charm , history and good location , this is the place to stay.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2009

We were looking for a boutique luxury hotel in Cortina. Unfortunately the Hotel de la Poste did not deliver. There is nothing dreadfully wrong and the hotel is well-located, well run and pleasant. In the 1970s this would have been a top hotel - however time has moved on and the hotel hasn't.

In particular:

- rooms are pleasant, but dated, with no iPod docks, LCDs TV and standard toiletries;
- wi-fi is not included;
- lounge is unwelcoming. Despite having a great fireplace it was not lit (in depths of winter) with the centre of attention being a small TV set to an Italian channel. We sat for 20 mins with no service. There was nowhere comfortable to relax.
- restaurant food was good, but service over complicated and formal with 2 waiters serving each course.
- skiier are somewhat like second class citizens - tiny ski-room and boot warmer was only switched on if I went down before breakfast.
- despite pre-booking garage parking when we arrived it was not available and we had to park a walk away, outside in car-park that had turned into ice-rink.

However the hotel is priced as if it is a luxury boutique. My advice is to to one of the much better value other 4* hotels in center of Cortina.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel immensely. The hotel has a wonderful comfortable feeland the location is excellent. Another review has commented it is not best located for the ski lifts, but the ski bus stops practically at the front door, and there is a taxi stand there too. Just a tip, take a card from a taxi to phone in case you find yourself stranded somewhere cold and miserable, at the end of a ski.Our rooms were comfortable, we had beautiful views of the town and mountains. The bar was comfortable, cosy and busy, the dining room was wonderful, but too formal for our taste, although the food was exceptional.
A couple of small things could be improved, the ski boot room was just too small, for a hotel of this standard it really let it down.It was also impossible to get hold of an iron, it was possible to get clothes pressed but you had to leave them out in the morning, not much use if you've arrived in the afternoon and need something to wear for dinner.
As another review has mentioned the front office staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.

  • Liked — The comfortable established feel of the place
  • Disliked — the ski boot room

We had booked into the Mirimonte but moved to the Della Poste after feeling seperated from the main village at Cortina. We had a great expereince there and would highly recommend this property. The staff was friendly and the rooms were very, very clean. The front seating area is great for wathcing the world go by while sipping a beer or glass of wine.
