“A Relaxing week-end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

This is one of the most beautiful Italian hotels I have stayed. Everything is quite perfect and the staff makes you feel home. My pet (a nice cocker spaniel) was with us and she was almost free of going everywhere in the hotel, except for the restaurant and the Spa, and this made me very happy,

Room Tip: Higher floors rooms have a fantastic, breathtaking view

Beautiful historic hotel, located on a hill overlooking great scenery. We booked a 7=5 winter offer which was a pretty good value. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, though showing their age a bit and not quite the 5 star standards but still very charming The hotel is very quiet since there is practically no traffic around.
There is short walk downhill to the center of Cortina and a lovely pedestrian promenade with a shortcut to the Falloria cable car station.
The breakfast buffet was plentiful, coffee was brought upon personal request the way you wanted it--capuccino, espresso , etc. -an unlimited number of times. I did miss fresh vegetables for breakfast though and for my taste the buffet offered too many sweet things. But overall good.

Most of the personnel were very accomodating yet some men at the reception had an arrogant attitude.Noone was openly rude-one just felt it in the body langauge ,the tone of the voice when you asked a question. It was unpleasant to experience this in a classy hotel. We did not wear fur coats, neither was our car a Porsche and we came to Cortina for winter sports, not for a fashion show. So that left some aftertaste.
Our Oscar for friendliness of the staff goes to Thomas, the shuttle driver. :)

Overall our experience in Cristallo was good and we would definitely return to this hotel .
Cortina is a must for every skier and a lovely place to relax and taste the wonderful local cuisine.

Dear ABC123Berlin, let me personally thank you for your comments. We are happy to read your overall good impression, but at the same time we are sorry we did not meet 100% your expectations. We are addressing the issues you brougt up so don't happen again. We wait for you on your next trip to Cortina, which awaits you with its events, sports, fine cuisine and above all the relaxing atmosphere of the Dolomites at sunset when they turn red revealing their beauty.

We spent 1 week in February at ski in Cortina at hotel Cristallo. The hotel is big, the staff is very friendly. We are LHW members so they upgraded our room to a junior which was very beautiful.
The problem is that at almost 700 Euros/night they have just one free shuttle to Cortina (centre) and a taxi to the slopes that costs 25 eu/way!!Also, they did not tell us that the parking outside is 25 eu/night and inside 48 eu/night.
They don’t have ski rental in hotel, so you have to take skis from other rental centers.
If you are enough of their gourmet food, you cannot find a straight, normal restaurant to eat the famous pasta or pizza (just in centre is Rest Porto Rondo-very good).
At Spa, the water in the pool was less than 27 Celsius even the thermometer showed 29.Many customers complained about this but they showed the thermometer (I cannot let my kid inside!)
I think, this hotel is not the best solution for your holiday!

DoctorDermatology, We thank you for experiencing the hotel and its services. We offer three different food options, from Italian cuisine to gourmet food to local dishes. Besides that, Cortina has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine, and more. For ski rental, we have great partnerships with specialized shops in town. We value your comments and hope to see you again.

Goodness, a beautiful hotel with lovely service, lovely views, the afternoon tea is a delight just to see, let alone eat! The spa area and pool looked very relaxing and a large gym with up to date equipment too.

However, I must agree with previous reviews. We felt absolutely mugged on the 'extras'. No equipment for tea in your room so must go to bar for tea/coffee - from memory about 7 euros. 12 eur for very average tasting glass of wine. 16.50 eur to iron a top for me (declined of course). No irons available to the rooms. The gym was advertised at 45 eur a visit. Thankfully nobody seemed to be insisting on taking a room number. Mini tube of pringles from the mini bar - 8 eur thanks very much! And so on and so on.

The hotel is not cheap to stay, but the management would do well do remember that the people who can afford to stay there aren't stupid either, and still recognise value.

Overall, I would rather stay somewhere not quite as nice overall but be able to relax, not anticipating a huge bill at the end of the stay.

Room Tip: ask for room facing town side. not sure about corner rooms etc.

We stayed here for three nights thurs -sun. We booked a full suite.

I want to ensure a balanced review so I am going to start with the positives.

It is a magnificent grand historic hotel. That lives up to its grandeur, the setting is spectacular and the decor is well maintained and the service was impeccable.

I would like to single out the female bar woman and especially the head concierge. At the bar the lady serving could not have been nicer, she remembered our orders from previous orders and could do no more to be genuine and helpfull.

The same goes for the concierge who greeted you like a lost friend asking if there was anything he could do for you most every time we past.

The breakfast was also impeccable and the food and service in the restaurant was of the standard you would expect from this style hotel.

The let downs.

The Room.

We booked a suite, direct from the cristallo website. We paid 1300 euros for three nights on the jan offer.

The room we got was effectively as described but it was far far smaller than the photos of even the junior suite on the website.

It was like you where shuffling round the furniture all the time banging into things as they had squeezed in to meet the recommendations.

It is obvious to me, that this was a standard room (103) that they had tried to call a suite. It was in the first floor of three a corner room overlooking the parking garage at the back.

When you pay for a suite you expect a high floor with a good view

On arriving it stated there where 22 suites it is obvious to raise the rates they have renamed some of the slightly larger std rooms.

Then onto the prices. I just don't think they need to go so far, charge an extra €100 euro a night if that's what you need to make per customer you just feel mugged
paying €18 euro for an Irish coffee / cocktail or € 8-9 for a standard coffee.

They did however make some of the value up with a very good selection of nibbles.

The mini bar too was beyond ridiculous so ridiculous in fact this is the first hotel ever I have refused to use the minbar out of principle... False economics on the part of the hotel if it had been just 20 percent cheaper I would have emptied it most nights but I'm not paying in the region of €10 for Pringles that are free on the bar.

The final point that tipped me over on the pricing was the (hidden) €120 bill we got on leaving for parking the car for three nights.

When we pulled up we where asked if they could park our car inside the garage as it was minus 12 deg c they didn't say it was going to be €40 per night.

I have no problem paying €2000 for three nights in a hotel of this status I just feel as though they don't need to mug you on the small things.

Finally the pool... The massive temperature gauge they have sitcking out it says 30 Degc but it was no more than 15 and a big let down the full three days. After returning from the slopes a well heated pool is expected In all ski resort hotels.

Location was not really a problem as they laid on a excellent personal shuttle service.. I just wish I'd left my car in town and used that. ;-)

The hotel is very nice service is excellent (sometimes too pressing) however they did lose some points due to greediness to charge 10€ for a bottle of coke???? Or to charge 40€ a day for covered parking (25€ for parking outside) I think this is exagerted

Nice hotel with a beautiful view over the valley, definitely five-star services, but nothing that particularly struck me. The tastefully furnished rooms as they left me perplexed, bathrooms insignificant, apart from the hot tub and shower over the column did not reflect an absolute five-star level. For the price paid I expected to find at least a separate shower from the tub and toilet in separate room. The breakfast really poor, jam packed as you can find in a three star hotel, especially in the mountains is expected of fresh jams. The dinner left me with no good memories. Fast, too fast, everyone was in a hurry to finish the round and clear. Surely a fine hotel, surely the best in the area, but definitely not return. By the way chose for a cheaper room and try to safe money for this hotel.
