“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2007

We stayed during summertime 2006 and enjoyed our stay immensely. The rooms are very clean. The hotel restaurant only offers a set menu, but it was excellent - we ate there twice. The walking path out back and the views are incredible. Within walking distance of 'The Arrow In The Sky' - gondola ride to top of La Tofana (11,000ft).

Family owned and operated, very friendly. Internet access, but only in lobby area - they provide a PC, but you can also use your own.

Along main thoroughfare at end of town leading to Austrian border, so road traffic is constant.

Frequent public bus service and staff has schedules for guests.

Staff very helpful correcting our booking as our room was too small for 4 and even gave us a discount on the 2nd room.

Would highly recommend and return again.

  • Liked — Scenic Views, excellent service

We stayed at Menardi for 4 nights for a ski holiday. I based my decision on trip advisor reviews, which in general are correct - But some very misleading points which were a huge disappointment. For example;

I wanted a wellness center, which a previous reviewer states was nice. (and is shown on the hotel website.) We were very surprised to arrive at the front desk, next to the sign advertising the spa, (dressed ready to go...) and were told 1) you have to put on your coat / street clothes, as the wellness center is in the building next door. 2) You have to pay €20 per person to enter... for a sauna and jacuzzi and towel 3) it is totally nude (mixed).... which it itself is ok but what if you just want to relax in a lounge chair? must you do it in a towel? and 4) oh, it is not open until 15.00. My first thought was for €40 a couple, I could have probably gone to Miramonte or Cristallo spa and gotten more. None-the-less, there was no offer for us to look at it and decide, and I wasn't interested in getting redressed. Big Minus for me!

Secondly, I followed the tripadvisor advise and booked a room in the back - which was quiet, however the room was pretty terrible. It was very small for 4 nights, just enough room to walk around the bed. The bathroom I hated. It was in bad need of touch up (cracked tiles, banged up door, chipped paint everywhere.) It was so narrow when on the toliet your nose practically touched the wall. And the tub only contained a hand held fixture that did not mount to the wall. Therefore you were forced to shower one handed, or in shifts. Hard to wash long hair.

Last point, my husband thought the shuttle out front was part of the hotel to take you downtown,(as said on website) but it was a public bus which only comes once an hour.

On the plus side: Aperitivo in the bar with fireplace simple and nice. The walk way into town behind the hotel a delightful walk. Dinner recommendations (we ate out always) were wonderful. Very clean - in fact spotless. The employees were helpful.

In the end, for 1 or 2 nights it would have been ok. I had different expectations about the spa and the room. For €200 a night, I would have expected more, even in upscale Cortina.

We stayed at Hotel Menardi for the second week of our honeymoon and had a great time. The service is impecable (Marco the bartender is the best!). The rooms were simple but immaculate. Breakfast was very good. The location is a bit out of town but we liked that because it was a bit quieter and, in the summer, the walk to town isn't bad at all.

We stay in ‘0’ star to ‘5’ star hotels. Therefore we attempt to rate the lodging based on how we perceive the ‘value received.’ Answering the question, “Would I go back to the same place again, for a similar price?” This hotel is a solid YES, with one exception. We would require an ‘off-the-highway’ room. We experienced a significant amount of highway noise from large semi-trucks and hundreds of motorcycles racing past the room each day (not near as bad at night). Noise was mitigated with the windows and the shutters closed. The Dolomites are a beautiful place and you want the windows open to enjoy the magnificent views.
Again, I highly recommend Menardi. The room was beautiful. So much so I took pictures of ceiling, walls, doors, etc. It was very impressive. This is a 5-star place (once you avoid the traffic noise). The wine cellar, best breakfast in 30 days, linen table clothes at breakfast. Reading rooms and more. Consider this place a 'very good' find. Owners and staff were great too!
Recommend you consider Menardi Hotel, if you can get off-street room.

Also, it seemed that a vast majority of other hotels through out the upper Dolomites were on this main highway. Try getting a room off the street. Better yet, lodging that is not on the ‘main drag.’

Driving through the Dolomites is a challenge. I estimated just over an hour to cross east and west, and it was more like 3+ hours. Have your friend drive so you can see the great sites.

The Hotel Menardi is a lovely hotel -- about a 15 minute walk from central Cortina. The rooms were relatively spacious -- we had a double for my husband and me, and a triple for our three young adult/teenaged girls. It has fabulous views of the mountains and a lovely backyard with lawn furniture for hanging out and looking at the amazing views. The staff could not have been more accomodating or nicer, and their recommendations of restaurants were excellent. The only issue I would note is that the hotel is right on the main highway and the front rooms do get a significant amount of traffic noise. We requested a change to the back and found that to be nice and quiet. They have a lovely breakfast buffet, and a bar that stays open pretty much all night as far as we could tell (but not because it was noisy -- only because the bartender mentioned that some people were enjoying it until the wee hours the night before), with a lovely terrace. We would go back in an instant!

We have just returned from 3 days at Menardi Hotel. We arrived very late in the evening after driving up from Viareggio, Alberto greeted us with drinks and ham and cheese toasted sandwiches. (they were wonderful) The staff was great, the rooms were very clean and the views were breathtaking! We are planning a return trip very soon and we'll definately make reservations again at Menardi Hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights during June. We called ahead to say that we would be arriving at around midnight (following the drive up from Venice) and asked if some food could be left out. When we arrived, we were greeted by the host who immediately provided drinks and then went on to make a late-night delicacy - ham and cheese toasties! The rooms were great for this standard of hotel but the real delight was the 'wellness centre'. After a hard day's climbing and hiking we really looked forward to the sauna, steam, jacuzzi and showers! The final high point was use of the rooms on our day of departure right up until we left at 7:00pm! Full marks for service, location and a great sauna!
