I must start by stating that Dominigo, who was working on what appeared to be a pergola of some type, was most helpful once I arrived. I stayed here one night before a cruise. Normally I would stay in Rome and take the train in, but I thought I would try Civitavecchia for a change. I selected this B&B based on reviews. I did not experience the helpfulness at the train station that others have. In fact I was told the price of the taxi from the train station instead - 15 - 20 Euro. It actually was 15 Euro when I finally got a taxi. The driver had to look up the address on the map. Finally we found the place, but Dominigo was the only person there and was quite surprised to see me. He had to call someone on the phone to find out about my reservation. Finally I was shown my room. It was basic, but clean and had a small refrigerator in it which I was grateful for later. The room opened onto the very small courtyard which had absolutely no air flow. Also, the window of the bathroom opened onto this courtyard so that anyone in the courtyard could hear everything you did from brushing your teeth to water hitting the porcelain. Not very inviting if you ask me. I will say that the air conditioner was the best of any hotel anywhere. I actually had to turn it down in the middle of the hot night as the room became actually cold. I've never had to do that before in all my travels in Italy in July.
The breakfast consisted only of coffee and very dry pastries and a mixed juice. Nothing fresh or any meats or cheeses. Fortunately the night before I had purchased some cheese and sliced meats and fresh bread rolls which I used to fill me up. This was probably one of the most disappointing breakfasts I have had - definitely the least favorite of this vacation.
What was most outstanding, and I cannot say enough positive or kind things here, is the effort put forth by Dominigo to help me feel at home and make my stay comfortable, which is was. He even shuttled me to the cruise ship the next morning. While walking in town, I ran into him after only having been in town for a couple of hours, but he offered to drive me back to the hotel in his car and told me of a place next door to get some pizza. The pizza was dry and rather tasteless but it was late and I was very tired after a long flight and train trip from eastern Europe that day.
So, the room was comfortable, clean and just fine for one night. The courtesy of Dominigo was so outstanding and friendly that I cannot fault this place for a single night's stay. If I were to stay in Civitavecchia again I would opt for another hotel near the main part of town, near the beach near restaurants and more activity.
I am grateful for the help and friendliness of Dominigo, and I thank him so much for making the one night in this small port town as pleasant as it possibly could have been.
