“Good place to stay before/after a cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We stayed at Hotel Traghetto the day before our cruise left the port in Civitavecchia.

Our room was simple, but was a decent size with a comfortable bed and a very clean bathroom. The hotel had free WIFI which was a nice bonus.

I quite enjoyed the free continental breakfast in the morning. There was juice, coffee, pastries, cereal, cheese, etc. It was all very tasty!

They also arranged a cab to take us to the cruise terminal (which is close to the hotel). We shared the taxi van with 2 other people at a cost of 5 euros each.

Our stay was short, but a good place to crash before or after a cruise!

We stayed here overnight since this was a close hotel to the port of call for our cruise. This is really just a a simple no frills hotel that you'd book out of necessity rather than leisure. But as what it is for, it is very good. The staff were very accommodating, the rooms and bathrooms were clean, and the wifi was reliable. The breakfast was just ok as they had just a few selections. But then again, considering that this is just a simple overnight hotel, I guess you wouldn't really expect something glamorous. Just a tip though for cruise passengers, the hotel would recommend a 5 euro per person group van service to the pier, but the pier is VERY CLOSE! You can walk to the port's special bus station and the assigned cruise bus regularly goes around to pickup passengers. This supposedly for free. I would really recommend this hotel for those looking for a decent place to stay for the night in Civitavecchia who are heading to the port.

The Hotel is close to the shuttle or you can pay 5euro each to go from front door to ship.
Giuseppe is fantastic and has lots of local knowledge to share. Breakfast included is a bonus and the rooms are well appointed.
Town is a ten minute walk with a lovely promenade and lots of restaurants and a small, free museum.
Laundry in town 24hour self service for 4euro wash plus 4euro dry.
Going to Rome by train, you should exit at the St.Peters station as all the Hop on Hop off buses start from close by. Termini is in a different part of Rome, so check your maps and see which suits your sightseeing.
Do not risk Airport to Rome to Civitavecchia on embark day. Trains can be slow, late and overcrowded. It may seem prudent to save a dollar, but Giuseppe can arrange a private car for 100 euro Airport to Hotel. Best money we spent !

I was in Italy from 5/12 - 5/23/2013. Eight nights were spent at the Hotel Traghetto. Italy is a wonderful country and the Hotel Traghetto is a wonderful hotel. The room was immaculate and was appointed with all the necessary amenities. Be sure and meet the Hotel Manager, Giuseppe Esposito. Giuseppe is friendly, always smiling, outgoing, helpful and speaks great English. The Breakfast Bar is more than sufficient and the lovely young Jessica makes wonderful Americano coffee. All the staff make you feel as if you are at home rather than in a hotel...in a foreign country.
The Traghetto is located within walking distance of the wharf, the "Kissing Statue", shops, grocery stores, restaurants and bars. Be sure and go to the Open Air Market while there...extra special on Wednesdays.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Traghetto Hotel to all visiting that area of Italy.

I recomend the Traghetto Hotel in Civitavecchia if you are looking for a place to stay prior to or after arriving by cruise ship.
The hotel is located near the port free shuttle service to and from the ships. A little far to walk if you are carting your suit cases. Instead, it's worth a 10 Euro cab ride to the front door of this hotel.
The front desk reception person- Giuseppe gave us a 4 Star smile on arrival and had our bags delivered to our room by the time we registered.! It is a confortable hotel with very nice clean large rooms we had on the 3rd floor. Front ocean view rooms were sold out. How ever we had a very nice view of the park below.
Our 90 Euro per night room rate included a continental breakfast. This was served in a nice dining area. Help yourself, the food was very good. Free cappachino/ water/ coffee all day!
Giuseppe is a charming person who will go out of his way to help any guests staying here. As an example, our friends traveling with us, happen to be waliking in the city when they were caught in a heavy rain shower. Giuseppe happen to be driving buy , stopped and gave them a ride back to the hotel some distance away.
Walking distance to the city is a very 1/2 short block away and you are on the main street with shops and resturants. there is an interesting open air market to see.
Avis rental car is located a few blocks away from the hotel on the main street.
We did take an easy walk to the train station which was a good distance away. Recommend a taxi, or especially if your slugging bags.
Will be coming back to stay here on our next visit.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Traghetto prior to embarking on a cruise. Our room was very comfortable, and we had an excellent view of the ocean from our balcony. The complimentary breakfast was delicious, especially the coffee. Best of all was the personal attention given to us by Giuseppe, who assisted us in everything including where to visit, where to eat, e-mail, travel arrangements, and generally making us comfortable, especially since our command of the Italian language is limited as best. The other staff were also very pleasant and helpful. My experience here was much richer than my stay at a brand-new hotel near Rome. I will definitely plan to stay at Hotel Traghetto on my next visit to Civitavecchia.
