“family restaurant on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

For families travelling with children this is an ideal spot. There is a playground on the sandy beach right in front of the restaurant where kids can be busy having fun while you order your meals. The service is as friendly as it gets as they don't mind the children running in and out of the restaurant as they eat and play. After your meal you can sun on the beach while the kids play in the sea...It is in a lovely corner of the beach with 2 light houses on the water and when you look up you have a beautiful view of the castle crowning the hilltop.

“best beachclub/restaurant in Castiglione!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

I live in Amsterdam, and every year i return to Castiglione della Pescaia and I always receive a warm welcome from the owner Alessio and his wife Julia. It's like coming home in Italy! There;s a mix of all types of people going there, and it's always good fun. Very nice, fresh Italian food, and lot's of things to do on the beach such as surfing, volleyball, basketball and more. The staff is superfriendly and service is excellent!

“I love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

I have visited Bagno il Faro about 15 times in the last eight years. I met Alessio, the owner, when he was visiting Los Angeles back in 2001. I send all of my friends to Alessio's and EVERYONE comes back telling me what an amazing time they had.

Here are the pros and cons of Bagno Il Faro:

1. Alessio and his wife Julia are pure love. They are happy people and they want you to be happy. Their energy carries down through all levels of the business. Make friends with Alessio and Julia and they will be your friends for life and you will be back to visit many times.

2. The food is fresh and good. I have gone with Alessio to the fish market on multiple occasions to pick out our fish for dinner. If you are lucky enough for Alessio's dad to be in the kitchen making pizza, you are in for an extra treat. The olive oil is local from the region and they make a mean cappuccino. I always feel healthy when I eat here and the flavors are great (but not complex as you'd find in Michelin Star restaurant). Traditional Italian food is how I'd sum it up.

3. Service at the restaurant is not fast. If you are looking for a quick meal, this is not the place. If you want a two hour+ dinner looking out at the sea then this is the place.

4. The beach. As I'm American, not European I don't really understand the phenomenon of paying for beach umbrellas and I can't distinguish what makes one beach's umbrellas nicer than another's. The location of Bagno Il Faro is the closest beach to town which is very convenient. It also means there is more foot traffic heading past so if want to read quietly this is possible in May, June and September, but not July and August. The beaches overall in Castiglione are flat sand with very little waves. Good for families and also good for a swim. In the summer the water is warm but definitely not as warm as southern Italy.

Go, have fun, and tell Alessio and Julia that Mark sent you. :)
