We stayed in the Regina Olga for three nights. The rooms facing the lake and those with balconies were lovely. Pity about the excessive noise at night until the early morning hours - people sitting outside laughing and drinking, motorbikes and cars speeding and construction work that started at 5am. The staff was pleasant and not overwhelming. The pool area is cosy and inviting.
On our last evening we visited Ristorante Trattoria del Vapore next to the hotel. What a disappointment. Service was either rude or non-existent and before 11pm the woman who served us started to rush or intimidate people to leave. We were halfway with our after-dinner liquers and got terrible attitude when we were still there at 11h15pm.
The No Sola Pasta Restaurant on the Villa D'este grounds is good for an evening dinner. For lunchtime try Tom and Jerry.

Of our 2 week stay in Italy in 4 star hotels, the Regina Olga was definitely the least nice hotel we stayed in. It is in need of an updating. Of course the scenery is wonderful, so that makes up for some of it. We stayed there in early Oct, when hardly anyone is around. We would have liked a room with a better view, and while the front desk gave us the best they could under the "standard rate," we didn't see why they couldn't upgrade us considering there were about 10 people staying in the entire hotel.

We stayed here in mid-July 2004. The hotel is in a great location right next to a park with the ferry and to our pleasant surprise the location for the morning market. The hotel staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Although we didn't take advantage of it there is an outdoor pool with the hotel. We did take advantage of the complete breakfast but chose to dine at one of the wonderful family restaurants within walking distance. As others have noted the view of the lake and the hills was breath-taking. Parking was right in front of the hotel. A wonderful place to stay.

Have to say that I was pleasantly suprised by the standard and value of this hotel. Good deluxe double room, giant bed, fridge, safe etc. Best shower I've had abroad and finally the view. Oh what joy to step out onto a balcony with an unincumbered view of the lake fifty yards away, room 214 is a must. For the location and standard of the resort this was good value. I must also recommend Harry's Bar acroos the street for a wonderful meal at approx 50euros per head incl. wine, ask for its patron Pietro, a wonderful host who has a touch of the blarney about him.
