“Great restaurant in Cernobbio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

We booked a room for 3 days in the hotel with the same name and we had a fine dinner in the restaurant the second day. I think that the main profit for the owner are from the restaurant, because the hotel has only 8 rooms. The 2 of the 3 days local people had receptions in this restaurant and this is a very good sign. The building is an old villa with a lovely garden and a lot of free parking space, something very difficult at Cernobbio. During the cold months they serve in a very nice room with original decoration and a big fireplace. The tables have lot of space between them, so you don't be very close to the other customer, something regular at Cernobbio.
The food was excellent and the service very friendly. Even if you don't speak Italian the waiter speak many languages and as a Italian he speaks a lot !! His suggestion for wine was very good and not expensive, 16euro for a bottle of Pinot nero , when in other restaurant they charge 10 euro for 2 glasses of beer. We had 2 first , very good, and for main dishes a fabulous risotto and a very tasty veal. We close our dinner with two desserts, nice but not the same quality of the food.
The total cost was 109 euro, a little expensive but it deserves every cent of this.If you order less, then the bill will be the same as other restaurants in Cernobbio. Beware that the cuisine closes early for a Italian restaurant and that it is better to check the availability because of the private parties that they hold there.

“Buyer beware”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2011

Food was ok, service was actually good. What turned us off was the 100 euros we were charged for salt fish that everywhere else in Italy that we had it, charged about 30 euros a person. Although it is our fault that we did not ask the price first, we felt ripped off because we were staying at Villa d'Este, the concierge having made our reservation. DO NOT ORDER OFF THE MENU when offered items not appearing on it. There are better restaurants around and certainly ones in which you do not feel taken advantage of.

“Decent food and service but not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

Just ate here tonight with my partner. We liked Trattoria del Vapore better and that was less expensive. The food and service is decent but slightly overpriced for what it offers.
