“Easily one of the best hotels in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

Where to start? We've stayed at extra-ordinary hotels around the world, from luxury chains like the Four Seasons or the Peninsula to small, boutique resorts in wonderful locations. Villa D'este combines the best of both - a stunning location right on Lake Como, a lovely 16th century villa that's most reminiscent of a Florentine museum and amazing food, service and amenities. We stayed in a Junior Suite and had the most amazing time - we can't wait to return. This will likely be an annual destination for us. The grounds are spectacular, the views at breakfast, lunch or dinner will never disappoint and every restaurant there is excellent. What else? Oh right - George Clooney was having dinner there one night while we dined. As for service, how on earth did they know that it was my birthday one night and surprise me with a gift of Champagne and a hand-made tie! All in all, just counting down the time till we go back...

We went it villa d'este on a whim, passing by in the car back from como. We felt like being extravagant and certainly a trip to villa d'este is, however it is worth it. The staff were very attentive, and the view of the lake magnificent. The worn was not cheap, but was well worth it, given the surroundings, the beautiful music and general atmosphere. Worth a visit.

my husband and i went to villa d'este for our 20th wedding anniversary. neither of us had been to italy before, so it was a new experience for both of us. It lived up to every expectation I had and more. Granted, it is the most expensive hotel room I have ever paid for (partially because of a bad euro-dollar exchange rate), but even so, it was worth it. when we arrived, our room was not ready, so we walked around the grounds, and even into town since it is so close. we originally got a room on the 4th floor, and although it was nice (just nice), it was not spectacular. so, the next day, we asked about making a change and a possible upgrade, since we were staying for 5 nights. it was high season, so the hotel was totally booked, but they had a room checking out the next day that we could look at. so, the next day, we looked at the room and it was twice the size of our room on the 3rd floor and we said, we will take it, but we didn't want to have to pack everything and unpack again. they said, no worry, just pack the small stuff and we will do the rest! so we did and it was the best decision we ever made.
the service at the hotel is impeccable! they cannot do enough for you (and they bill you for most of it too, a small pelligrino was 10euro). luckily, breakfast was included daily, and that was a delicious buffet and also whatever you wanted to order. we ate dinner at the verandah one night and it was quite delicious as well. men do need to wear a jacket and tie (and my husband didn't have a tie, but there was an assortment that they keep on hand for people just like him!).
the setting could not be more beautiful. we played tennis and went on the jogging/hiking trails almost every day. we rented a boat and took it up to bellagio and down to como and all over the lake. we also went kayaking one day which was nice too. the floating pool is wonderful!
the concierges are great, extremely knowledgable and helpful. we drove to lugano one day with easy directions, and they made good restaurant suggestions as well. the town is walking distance, so when we didn't want to drive any where, they made a few suggestions in town that were exceptional. we were there over bastille day and there was a show and fireworks right in front of the hotel from the water. these are memories i will never forget!

Room Tip: every room in the hotel is different. rooms on the 4th floor have smaller windows than any other fl...

Last week it was my wife's birthday and where better to surprise her for a romantic dinner together? Villa d'Este of course and The Grill. The weather was nice and warm so our table
was outside in the garden with a spectacular view of the sunset on Lake Como. It goes without saying that the food and service were impeccable. We ate fish mainly and it was delicious. They also surprised my wife with a fresh fruit birthday cake at the end of our meal. The best I have ever tasted!!! Food and service aside there is always a sensation of a magical atmosphere when at Villa d'Este. Our evening was also enlightened with the presence of George Clooney eating at the Grill with friends.
By the way, the reviews I read about people complaining about the prices at Villa d'Este make me laugh. It's like buying a Ferrari and complaining about the fuel consumption !!! Ciao

Villa d'Este was wonderful from the first moment we arrived till we reluctantly had to leave. The staff are so friendly & helpful & treat you like royalty. The hotel grounds are spectacular & well worth devoting plenty of time to wander around & take them all in. Both restaurants served excellent food, all in all our stay was a very memorable one & one we hope to do again in the near future

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are more expensive but the garden view rooms also have a great outlook

Villa d'Este really is worth every penny you pay. The hotel and grounds are jaw dropping. Our room was very spacious and luxurious. The service is great. The amenities are wonderful. It is a small fortune to stay but you will not be disappointed. It delivers in every way as it should. There is a reason it is famous.

On another note, the food is overpriced so plan on dining out a few times if staying. The breakfast buffet is wonderful, but it is included in the room rate so no worries there.

Room Tip: We stayed in an Executive Double which was very spacious and luxurious. Plenty or room for two and w...
