“PERFECTION”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

From arrival to departure, our stay was perfect. We enjoyed every single thing. The staff, service, property, gardens, even the shampoo and pillow placed chocolates are beyond compare. We arrived on Easter Sunday to find the most beautiful public room prepared with chocolate sculptures, ice sculptures and live chicks. The entire Easter extravaganza was lovely.

We were to stay in Milan for @ weeks , so we were looking for weekend getaways. Lake Como was our first weekend tin Italy this year. We have always visited Italy in Summer but this time we were apprehensive. Lake Como, Villa D'Este which we decided totally based on Tripadvisor reviews. It was a perfect place. The hotel was out of the world. From the time we entered the gates of the Villa we were treated with so much care. The hospitality was awesome. The staff is just so good, they make you feel special every minute. Our room was great. We had dinner at the Verandah, and also at their fine dining restaurant. A superb experience!!! Will definitely go back!!!

Room Tip: We were at Room 135 and it was great. I am sure all rooms are!!

Incredible not to be offered/served just a simply sweet to accompany a 9 € cup of tea!. The pretended superiority of an old fashioned hotel&its lounge bar shows its really decadence, whilst new business ideas for the restauration and vacational world crop up around every day with freshness and energy. Stop the absolutism!!!

This is an exceptional place and it's small wonder that it hosts, every year in May, the most elegant and exclusive of the world's events for classic cars, the 'Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este'. The fact that this Concorso was founded in 1929 confirms that this was already one of the most luxurious places to be and be seen by the glamorous crowd of that era.
Nowadays this splendid hotel has lost nothing of its classic charme; it is, if possible, even more elegant and luxurious then before. Service is excellent and the style of every detail is peerless. It is, obviously, not cheap; but if you decide to allow yourself a few days of unamended pleasure, you will find here a small corner of Heaven. Recommended to anybody who appreciates the finer things in life and has the knowledge to savour every moment of a holiday here....

Room Tip: The rooms with a view on the lake are very much sought after, but are also, of course, the more expe...

There is no place like it. The hotel itself is breathtakingly beautiful, the chandeliers are out of a dream. The lake view and floating swimming pool are exquisite. The cocktail lounge is stocked with all you could ask for. The restaurant is out of this world. Try the homemade pistachio ice cream with whole pistachios in it. You can't go wrong.

Room Tip: Obviously those in the main building with a view over the Lake.

I have been privileged enough to stay at Villa d'Este on numerous occasions and it has always left me revitalised and thrilled. It's old school elegance with breathtaking scenes over the lake. It seems to be a bit of a hotel california - the staff rarely seem to change and that gives the place a very rooted feel. The food is excellent and overall I would recommend it, especially if you have an eligible car for the concours d'elegance. The only thing I wish everyone on Lake Como wouldn't do is feel the need to broadcast to every visitor that an American actor, I think he's called Georgio Clooney, bought a house there - unnecessary, ugly and undermining the whole point of glamourous Como.

Room Tip: try to stay in the main building and get a lake view - it's probably not going to be a regular d...

We have been to Villa d'Este several times as a family over the years (and reviewed it here), each time blown away by the scenery of the place and the wonderful atmosphere of the hotel and lake. However, this time our stay was a week or so before they were due to close for the season (and in the midst of their preparing for the yearly luxury speed boat race) thus we felt the staff was a little preoccupied and guest-weary after a long season. This meant that the smiles were worn a little thin and the special attentiveness we had experienced in the past was lacking. Plus, this time we had the misfortune to have a suite next to a younger family with two young children and their nanny. They had taken 2 adjacent rooms--children and nanny in one, parents in the other across the hall near us. This unfortunately meant much slamming of doors, hanging out in the hallway making a ruckus as the fussy, ill-behaved children constantly ran to their parents' room and back. We would have hoped the parents would have been more considerate or the nanny more capable. As it was, this reoccurant disturbance did put a dent in the tranquility of the place. But all in all, we were once again pleased with our stay, the marvelous rooms and setting and the activities we undertook. We can only reiterate our past recommendation to take a speedboat tour of the lake with driver: absolutely stunning views one wouldn't otherwise see and the wonderful, invigorating feeling of sun & wind on your face as the charming towns roll by. (I've included a few photos this time for reference, sparing you the verbal descriptions.) For something different this time, we combined our visit with VdE's sister property: Villa la Massa near Florence in the so-called "Romantic Journey Through Italy" package. We can highly recommend this arrangement as several activities, meals (dinner or lunch) and special amenities were included. Plus the sister hotel was a real gem! (Reviewed elsewhere.) And our dog was welcomed at both properties, taking the stress out of our stay.

Room Tip: We prefer the 'Cardinal' Building (main building) vs. The 'Queen's Pavilion' nex...
