My aunt and I traveled through Italy, Turkey, & Greece last summer [summer 2010]. We spent two nights in Rome before we drove from Rome to Castellina In Chianti. We took the scenic route and stopped in Pienza for dinner. MOST BEAUTIFUL DRIVE OF MY LIFE!!! The beauty we saw from Rome to Castellina was absolutely exquisite. I cannot even begin to describe it to you.
Due to our scenic route we arrived at Fattoria Tregole nearing midnight. We felt horrible having to call Edith and tell her we would be arriving at that hour [that's one down-side to staying in a B&B, instead of a hotel]. We arrived and they were very friendly and their daughter showed us to our room. We were not aware that our room would not have air conditioning, but with the windows open and the fan going it was very comfortable [& I am VERY hot natured].
The next morning when we actually got to see the grounds in the daylight I realized how absolutely breath-taking they were. Edith's gardens and flowers are gorgeous and the infinity pool was fantastic. Our bathroom was very nice and clean. Plenty big. We only had one bug issue. Some sort of dragonfly got into our room one evening, but that's it.
Although we didn't get a change to eat at Fattoria Tregole due to our cramped schedule, I'm sure it would have been amazing as well.
I also fell in love with Castellina in Chianti. The town is so cute and perfect. Keep in mind that Fattoria Tregole is actually not in Castellina in Chianti, it's in a tiny suburb called Tregole. I posted a photo of the sign turn off. The drive to Castellina in Chianti is less than 5 min.
One negative comment I do have is about our second morning-
We were still both suffereing from jet-lag and accidentally slept until 11am. In a hotel that would have been no big deal, but we experienced something different. After apparently calling our room twice with no response, Edith came and loudly knocked on our door. We were still in our beds, in our pajamas, and had woken up just seconds before she entered our room. Although it was not a big deal, that was the only down side we experienced at this beautiful place.
