“Great Stay at Salivolpi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

We stayed at the Salivolpi Hotel in Castellina for four nights. The hotel is lovely, very attractive exterior buildings, well kept garden and pool; lots of parking, The rooms were a good size with homely décor, good air conditioning, great shower; we were very pleased with our room. Breakfast was an extra charge of 7 euros each per day but well worth it, nice buffet of food and drinks; set in a pretty little out house. The best thing about the hotel is its wonderful staff, very welcoming and always polite and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the local area, surrounding areas and all tourist activities to try- they spilled over with enthusiasm. We took on lots of their suggestions and were always pleased with our trips out. The highlight of our trip was we got engaged, as the staff were so friendly they were the first people we told. They were so happy for us and joined in our excitement, we always got hugs each time we walked through the reception, they were so thrilled with our news. So we would like to say an extra thank you to Silvia and Simone, on reception, who made so much effort to make our stay wonderful and they succeeded. Memorable stay at the Salivolpi.

My husband and I spent two weeks in Italy celebrating our 5th anniversary, and three nights were spend in Hotel Salivolpi. What a lovely stay in the middle of our tour of Italy! We wish we could have stayed longer; and if we come to Italy again, we will probably focus our stay in Tuscany... and we would very likely stay at Hotel Salivolpi again. It was delightful.

Silvia at the front desk was welcoming and helpful, the room was clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned, and although the shower in our room was very small (I'm sure other rooms have bigger showers), all in all we felt very comfortable. The buildings and grounds (a 1600s farmhouse-turned-B&B) are authentic and beautiful. The garden in the back was so peaceful; it backs to the bar in the main building where we were able to enjoy some refreshment, and the terrace there overlooks a lovely lawn with trees and flowers. The pool, fenced in and off to the side, looked inviting but we didn't have the time to swim. We did take advantage of their 7-euro-per-person breakfast one morning; they had a wide selection of food including pastries, boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, etc. It was fine; but the other mornings we opted to breakfast at a cafe in town where we enjoyed cappuccinos and amazing pastries.

The town of Castellina in Chianti, a 10-minute walk or a 1-minute drive, is an absolute gem. Among all of our experiences in Italy (which included Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre, and Pisa), Castellina in Chianti was our favorite. We loved the quaint charm, amazingly good restaurants, and, of course, fabulous wine. We even were able to enjoy a free evening choral concert held in the local church. And the surrounding countryside is quintessentially Tuscan. We loved, loved, loved it!

Room Tip: Maybe just ask for a room with a decent-sized shower.

Dear Sylvia C, we are so glad you choose our country hotel for your trip celebrating your 5th anniversary! We want to thank you for your review, full of details and of words of appreciation, telling about how charming our country hotel is and about the position of it in the center of the Chianti area, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees.
Salivolpi is the best place to relax and also to visit the area. The garden and the pool are so welcoming for a quiet afternoon or to finish a day, after many exploration all around us, sipping a glass of Chianti wine and enjoying the breeze of the sunset. The breakfast is healthy and various, served in the charming, rustic dining room with the original fireplace that reminds about ancient times…. Please, be welcome every time you want, see you for another delightful holiday at Salivolpi!

My wife and I spent three nights in late June 2014.
The hotel was a pleasure, especially the staff! Silvia and the others at the front desk were charming and very helpful in finding us places to visit, eat and get the full feeling for the area.
The place was spotless and beautiful! The nights were completely quiet. The views had no end. The gardens and grounds are well maintained and the pool was crystal clear! All of this lent itself to creating a few days of unmatched R&R!!
Thank You Hotel Salivolpi!! When in Italy again, we are sure to pay a visit!
Tutto era perfetto! UN milione di Grazie!!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on part of our honeymoon in June. Everyone was so helpful and the location couldn't be better! They organized a wonderful driver to and from Florence and a great cooking class. We would definitely return!

Lovely little hotel in a former Tuscan farmhouse. Original features, timber beams, fireplaces, original doors and windows, old style furnishings but with modern bathrooms and swimming pool. Nice gardens to relax it. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Castellina in Chianti. However, the best asset of this hotel is the staff. Without exception they were the most helpful, friendly and professional we had met in a long time.

I think how you feel about a place often depends on the room you end up getting. This is a nice property and the people who work there are nice, but I think I must've had the worst room on the property. There is a small building that looks like an owner's house. There are a set of steps on the side that lead up to a porch and then you enter into this building and there are 4 rooms. My room was at the front. I had two windows -- one that was right next to the steps that everyone walked up and the other facing the front patio that everyone walked by to get into the building. So, when I was in my room, I really couldn't keep the windows open because I was totally exposed to whomever was coming and going. Anyway, sort of a bummer. The property is fairly small, but it's nice. It's a downhill walk to town - maybe about 15 minutes -- and there are a couple of restaurants between the hotel and town that are also convenient. I've stayed in the Castellina area before, but it was at villas where I had my own apartment and stayed for an entire week. For just a night or two, this place was fine, but I would ask for a different room next time.

I spent nine nights at the Salivolpi in May/June 2014 and could not have wished for a more comfortable room or for warmer, more hospitable staff. Everyone, from reception to the housemaids to the kitchen staff, greeted with a warm smile and provided exceptional service.

My room was comfortable and clean, with a beautiful view from my window and from the terrace outside. Although close to the road, I wasn't troubled by traffic noise. I enjoyed the drift of conversations from cycled as they rolled past. The grounds of the hotel include stretches of lawn, pretty flower beds and a pool I wish we could have tried (too cold!)

The hotel breakfast offered a variety of options including yoghurt, fruit, juices, pastries, breakfast cake, toast, cheese, prosciutto and eggs, plus a variety of coffee and tea options. The hotel is a short walk from the restaurant Il Fondaccio del Dottori which became our regular, and an easy 15 minutes stroll to the centre of the village of Castellin, with a break for gelato on the way.

The village itself is lovely, well-serviced, friendly and a pretty perfect base for exploring the Chianti region.

Room Tip: We were in the block of four rooms separate to the main building. This is perfect for a group using...
