“An experience of a lifetime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

My Husband and I visited this beautiful hotel for our honeymoon in late July/early August 2013. I’m sure many people say this, but our honeymoon was perfect...and that was in no small part due to this wonderful hotel.

Location & travel: Castellammare Di Stabia is roughly halfway between Sorrento and Naples, slightly closer to Sorrento. The hotel itself is less than a mile away from the town centre, where the train station is located. You can easily walk along the roadside to the town centre (uphill on the way back I’m afraid!), which we did on several occasions. The hotel makes it really easy to get to town – they run a shuttle bus service several times a day, which you can book a place on for free, to take you to the train station. You can arrange for the hotel to pick you up for a small fee (we paid €10 per person), or you can get a local taxi, of which there are many situated around the train station, or you can walk (via the several ice cream parlours!). The train line is exactly what we wanted – it goes from Sorrento to Naples, but the stops along the way include those for Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Pompeii, which were exactly what we wanted to see. Seriously, some of the most amazing experiences we’ve ever had. From Sorrento, there are boat trips to Capri, which you can either organise yourself, or go on the one of the excursions the hotel organises. There were two available to us, one on a cruise-type ship and one on a private yacht for up to 8 people – we went on the latter excursion and it was one of the best excursions we’ve ever experienced. Very good for couples! Very good value too, especially when compared to prices in Sorrento itself for similar boat trips. They also included travel to and from the train station and the harbour once in Sorrento.

Hotel surroundings etc: The hotel is BEAUTIFUL. It's a luxurious setting in the middle of an lemon/orange grove, which means the gardens are just bursting with bright fruit everywhere. There are traditional statues adding to the elegance of the hotel, dotted around the place in a sophisticated matter. The rooms were huge, decorated in keeping with the ambience of the hotel, and scrupulously clean. The reception rooms included 2 pianos! We mainly ate outside, where the restaurant was usually open, as it was such lovely weather, being outside was definitely what we wanted. On one occasion, when the restaurant was in use for a wedding, we ate on the top floor of the hotel, which was very classically designed and was a truly lovely evening. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The menu was highly varied, something different every day, and the desserts were all fresh from the trolley (where you could sample a bit of everything if you liked!). The outdoor bar was lovely and the seats were dotted through the grove. Cocktails were amazing!

Staff: It was the warm, welcoming and helpful atmosphere created by the staff that made the most difference. The owner came to greet us personally and often came to say hello whilst we around the restaurant and make sure we were enjoying our stay. The staff at reception were extremely helpful, particularly when organising trips out and anything we might need during our stay. The restaurant staff were AMAZING, particularly Maria and Antonio, who personally saw to our every need. Once she had found out we liked sorbet, Maria even organised a special sorbet just for the two of us for dessert the following day (AND allowed us to have dessert from the trolley!). They were so friendly and made us want to eat in the restaurant every evening (which we did apart from one!). Maria even posed with us for a picture!

All in all, the entire experience was amazing and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Yes, we were a couple, but there were several families there, with children, who all seemed to enjoy it also. We didn't actually go into the pool, but it looked really nice and everyone seemed to be having fun.

If were ever go back there, we will DEFINITELY be staying in this hotel!

We really enjoyed our trip to Italy and to La Medusa Grand. We were slightly apprehensive at first, mainly due to tripadvisor reviews which suggested the hotel was difficult to get to and to get around from - this is not true! We got to the hotel via buses and the train from Naples - fairly easy (and, following the earlier review which suggested a short cut, only a 20 min walk from the station to the hotel). If you are prepared to walk it is absolutely fine!! If not the taxi's to and from the station are €10 each way - which is not bad considering how cheap the trains are; €2.90 from Naples!! We went to Sorrento, Capri (using the hydrofoil from the port in C.Marre - €10 taxi to the port as a bit early to walk!), Herculaneum, Pompeii and Vesuvius.
The town itself may seem quite run down but we actually found it to be very authentic - as much as we loved Sorrento; it is a tourist town so everything is expensive and dare I say a little 'fake'. On the day we went to Capri we arrived back in town at around half 6 and the town was buzzing - loads of places open; we had some fabulous pizza for €1 a slice from a place opposite the beach.

The hotel itself is fab - food is lovely although some nights left a bit to be desired in terms of value for money with regards to the set menu (€40). BUT you don't need to eat the set menu you can also order from the a la carte menu (pasta's around €20) OR order sandwiches (ca. €12) from the pool bar. It's also really lovely to eat on the terrace - one night we ate in the 4th floor restaurant and I personally didn't like it (too bright! - maybe dim the lights so you can see the view?!)

Rooms were kept clean. Toiletries weren't very good - no shampoo / conditioner - but bath foam provided even though no bath (I am being picky now!).

Grounds were lovely but make sure you wear insect repellent. Pool was great as well. Gym not really a gym - so if you are thinking you might want to use it; it's not up to much!

All in all a great hotel - we plan to go back to Italy as 6 days was far too short. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Although we were on the side, the Garden views are lovely.

I was a little bit apprehensive on our trip to this hotel not knowing what we would find, but what a find it turned out to be, This hotel is 5 star in every way, so well looked after and great staff also.

The Manager is aware and proud of Tripadvisor and if they are falling short in any way he wants to know, all the staff go out of their way to make sure you have a memorable stay.

The pool is one of the best pools i have seen at any hotel with real quality sun beds. Bring your own towels as they do charge €3.50 a day for beach towels

Evening meal is good but make sure you read the back of the menu, there is a €10 cover charge.

Breakfast is buffet style with something for everyone and more.

These charges are for the hotel to keep the nightly room charge down but to offer the best service.

This is a great place to just get away from it all and relax.

With these extra charges I would still ask anybody to find a hotel in any place in the world that offers what this hotel does, a real 5 star experience for a fraction of the cost, I cannot wait to go back to La Medusa Grand Hotel.

Room Tip: Garden views are the best

The staff are very welcoming, can not do enough for you, swimming pool is a good size, lovely setting, the gardens are also the bar with orange and lemon trees and comfortable seating, prices high, but it is a hotel. Food good, breakfast ample, with lots of choice. Room and hotel extremely clean, beds looked as thought they where clean sheets every day, shuttle service to local town free of charge, local town very poor lacking food places

Room Tip: Email reception staff before trip,

Stayed here for one night (this was the only availability they had) and had a lovely stay.

Large room with large bathroom. Pool and gardens were beautiful. Service was excellent.

We ate in the hotel restaurant, had the set menu at €40 per person for three courses. There was a wedding on so hotel guest were asked to eat in the fourth floor dining room, rather than on the terrace. This was ok but rather stuffy and formal - we would have much preferred the terrace. That said the view on the sun set over the bay and versuvius was stunning.

Hotel is on outskirts of town, which didn't look that great. If staying for a few days and wanting to explore the local area you would need a car.

We booked through secret rooms and got an excellent room rate. Don't know what standard would have been so value dating based on this and food/drink costs.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience with us.

We are very happy to hear that you savored the time spent here and the services of our waiting staff at breakfast and lunch. Providing our guests with the best possible hospitality and service has always been our aim.
You are absolutely right, Castellammare d Stabia is a small and busy city however, the Medusa' s location although very central and with the main attractions at a little distance,

We hope to see you again in the near future.
Yours sincerely,

Beautiful hotel with an astounding garden surrounding it. The swimming pool is great, too. Customer service is very nice both at the reception desk and the restaurant. If you have a car, it is the best option because you can drive to nearby places. The only drawback is that you end up eating at the hotel restaurant because Castellamare is not a nice city to go out. Beware of the traffic, since it is terrible!

We recently were booked to stay at hotel for 2 nights. Location was great for visiting the nearby attractions like Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano and all the Amalfi Coast. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful. Rooms very nice and spacious. Staff could not have been more helpful. We dined on the lovely terrace to the sound of soft piano playing. In fact we liked it so much that we had to return on the last 2 days of our holiday. The swimming pool is great for lelaxing after a day out sightseeing.

Room Tip: Rooms on opposite side of pool are quieter as next to hotel there is a large villa where a good numb...
