“Glad we found this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Very nice property. It was extremely clean and everybody made a great effort to be there for us. The breakfast could have had more variety. We would definitely recommend it, even though the village is of no interest. La Medusa Grand Hotel stood like an oasis in a dessert.

We spent a week at La Medusa from mid-August 2013

Positives
- Luxurious and relaxing pool and garden area - both were stunning, and in particular the garden design allowed for seclusion even when filled with guests
- Beautiful decor and furnishing in communal areas
- High standards of cleanliness thoughout the hotel (except the fitness area)
- Friendly and attentive staff, who made us feel very welcome
- Silvano the driver deserves a special mention, for his care and guidance in helping us decide where to go. He made a real positive difference to our holiday.
- Good food, and staff paid attention to our dietary requirements (e.g.ordering in soya milk)

Negatives
- Opaque charging for food and drinks. Cover charge was found on the last page of the menu booklet, and at €10 pp was hardly justifiable. Also when signing for items such as food and drinks bills the actual figure was only shown when specifically requested.
- No tea and coffee making facilities in the room. No provision of ironing in room (only the laundry service)
- the fitness area was incredibly poor. While advertised as " the open-air Fitness corner with Technogym equipment, represents an opportunity to keep oneself fit in an uncontaminated and healthy atmosphere." The floor was filthy and much of the equipment rusty to the point where we did not even attempt to use it.
- Given the location of the hotel, we would have expected the free shuttle bus into town to be more frequent - the last one available was 1730, compared to a last train to Sorrento at ~9pm.

Overall, we would recommend this hotel as a place to relax. If spending a lot of time in Sorrento, do consider the limitations on transfers (a taxi back from Sorrento after the 2137 final train will cost at least €50).

We stayed at this Hotel as it seemed to have good facilities and especially a gym!!!!!!!!!

I was so upset when we arrived we found the food was outrageously expensive once you take into account the 10 euro per head service charge...

The gym which should NOT be advertised as a gym was disgusting.

The gardens were the only nice thing at the hotel.

The cleanliness was appalling please see the photo of our bed.

It was a real shame.

Room Tip: Stay as high as you can and on the left hand side so the dogs next door don't keep you awake.

Just want to echo what Bodger S has said below about the La Medusa. A massive plus one to what he has said. It is a perfect base to explore what the Amalfi coast has to offer. We too hired a car and travelled about the coast and to Pompeii. All the staff are friendly and eager to please, the rooms are comfortable with excellent air con. We spent some lovely days relaxing by the pool sipping cocktails and others exploring the nearby archaeological ruins. The restaurants just outside the hotel are a great option with delicious reasonably priced pizzas and drinks as the set menu in the hotel was outside our budget. The La Medusa receives A definite recommendation from us to stay and enjoy the area. P.s make sure you try a cappuccino from Maria at breakfast! Thank you to all at the Medusa for a fantastic holiday. We will recommend to others and hope to revisit soon!

Excellent place to stay. All staff and management extremely helpful and pleasant [especial thanks to Antonio and Maria who ALWAYS seemed to be on duty in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast each day and always welcomed us with a smile].

This is a gem of a hotel, great service, lovely staff, fantastic new pool, super rooms and all in a beautiful setting and grounds.
OK so the immediate area around it is not great but who is worried when one is in a super hotel and grounds ?
The staff are superb, friendly, helpful, attentive and welcoming.
We had hire cars and could easily travel around all the sights and found parking easy and the driving fun and well spirited. Do not be put off by the daft guide books who say take the bus/train.There is much to do locally with Vesuvius, Pompeii,Naples, Capri and the whole Amalfi Coast on ones doorstep. There are loads of local restaurants to eat in and the food is all excellent...the hotel staff will recommend where to go and we followed their advice which was always good.
We have stayed in loads of hotels of all types all over the world and its always easy to find faults, trust me this hotel is a very good one.The staff here will do all they can to help. The Manager is very friendly and wants to make sure everyone enjoys their stay.
Italy is a wonderful easy going country one has to just relax and join in........

Room Tip: All the rooms we had were good. The outside steps to the pool made access very simple.

The hotel was lovely, well appointed and enjoyable. A couple of things: if you didn't bring your own towels you must pay daily for pool towels - a good thing to remember! Additionally, the hotel is a bit out of the way, so if you are hoping to enjoy the delights of the Amalfi coast or Sorrento you must be prepared to drive (about 40 min) and the area the hotel is located in is very rough and run down.

Breakfast was very good, lunch left something to be desired and dinner was more than adequate, although we very much enjoyed going into Sorrento in the evenings (although it did mean a drive along winding roads in the dark).
