“Mum and daughter jaunt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We spent a week in the region plumping for Rodoflor and Castellamare as not too touristy but accessible for the Circumvesuviana and the port for a ferry to Capri. Roberta, our hostess was friendly, kind and helpful and permitted us to leave our bags until our evening flight. The B and B is situated in an unprepossessing apartment block but inside it is clean and spacious. The room was fresh and spacious and the air con worked well. The shower cubicle was a little tired but plenty of hot water. Breakfasts were a little too much on the starchy side but Roberta did produce yoghurts into our stay. A little noisy in the apartment block - hard surfaces so footsteps carry and we could hear toilets flushing etc.
Castellamare is a working Italian town and it is good to get a flavour of the real Italy however it is a little run down and not geared up to tourism. We found a couple of good restaurants within a 5 - 10 minute walk but facilities much reduced on sundays. On our last day we had 7 hours to fill and Castellamare is not the place to be! Otherwise, we found the public transport system efficient and had a busy and most enjoyable week visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast and Napoli. We were a little concerned about the bad press for Naples ie theft, lack of cleanliness and undesirable elements but we absolutely loved working our way through the narrow streets of the old town and everyone we met was friendly. A good holiday all in all.

We spend two weeks in this B&B in Castellamara di Stabia. Very friendly and helpfull owners. Clean, close to the Circumvesuviana and metro. Breakfast is basic but okay. A good place to stay!
I would definitely advise anyone to stay in Castellamare and visit Pompeii, Naples or Sorrento from here. Castellamare has enough restaurants and it gives you a better feel of the italian daily life then touristic places like Pompeii/Sorrento or hectic places like Naples.

Our hostess was very lovely and made our stay very enjoyable. The room was impeccably clean and very large! My mother and i stayed here in August for a couple of nights on our way to the Amalfi Coast, and whilst there was very little to do in the area - we found it easy to get to the ruins of Pompei and Sorrento from here - although would advise against traveling on the Circumvesuvius in the dark. We walked around the streets though and had a lovely walk along the boardwalk - although we did find it hard to find somewhere to eat! Would def reccomend this B+B if you're in the area. It was a lovely experience. Very typically Italian, and by no means luxury but done very nicely!
