“Almost perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

This is very different to a standard hotel - and mostly better for that!

It is, essentially, two self-catering apartments on the top floor of an apartment block. The owner lives in the same block. Be warned - it is up four flights of stone stairs and there is no lift. The owner is very open about this and it wasn't a problem for us (partly because he carried our heaviest bag up for us!) Antonello (the owner) was also kind enough to meet us at the Circumvesuviana railway station and show us the way to the apartment.

The apartment consists of a bathroom, a small kitchen area, a dining area and a bedroom. It's light, airy and there's good aircon. The wifi is excellent - much better than most hotels offer (and it's included in the price). Breakfast was a collection of Italian cakes and pastries left in the kitchen area - so you are not bound to a breakfast time. Antonello told us we only had to ask if we needed anything. You need to take him at his word for this - if you want fresh towels, the beds changing etc then this will be done, but you need to ask. On our final night, Antonello explained where to catch the direct bus to the airport and he arranged with the company to stop closer to the apartment (there's a family connection to the bus company!). We really appreciated that as our main bag was quite heavy. (Note, the bus was about 35 min - and this is quite "normal"...so leave plenty of time to catch your flight!)

The town itself is nice enough. It's not Sorrento, but then again the prices are a bit cheaper. It is much more Italian (ie less tourist focussed) than some of the resort towns which makes for a more interesting holiday. It's easy to reach the main sights using the railway - we easily visited Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculaneum and went on a trip up Vesuvius. The railway is very battered, but also dirt cheap!

Overall, I would recommend Tetto Fiorito as a great place to stay - very relaxing and a good base to explore this part of Italy.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms. We had the purple one and it was excellent!

We have stayed 3 nights at this place and really enjoyed it. We had a car that the host helped us find a parking for, in a guarded garage, a few meters away from the appt. This was very convenient. Castellamare is very animated and gives you a chance to discover the true, popular, Italy, which is really great. It is also nicely located to discover the area. You are less than 30 minutes away by car from Pompei, Herculanum or the Mt Vesuvio. Napoli is just a bit further but you may think twice before getting there with your own car if you are not used to the Napoli driving style ... Therefore, the train station located next to the appt (but you don't hear the trains, they pass into a tunnel) is very convenient as well. You are at the same distance of the very famous "path of gods", a stunning hike on the south coast, also 30 minutes away by car. Really spectacular views to see there.

Beware of the stairs if you have problems walking up several series of steps but, besides that, the place is really cool and the host is very nice.

Thank you so much for your kind review on Tripadvisor.com

You are right.

Our location is really perfect to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Naples, sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. Then, if you visit Capri island, the port is only 5 minutes walk from our property.

We hope to give you our welcome again in the next future.

Tetto Fiorito is waiting for you and for your next stay.

The building from the outside has character in abundance which continues to the roof garden. We were fortunate enough to have the garden to ourselves and finished every evening with a glass of wine on the chair swing. In the day the extendable canopy provides shelter from the sun and a relaxing environment amongst the flowers and plants befitting of the name 'Tetto Fioritto'. Whilst beautiful the garden is also practical providing herbs and salad leaves.

The appartment itself is high ceilinged, light and airy (essential in the warmer weather). It is spacious with pleasant and tasteful decor providing a home from home. The kitchen is complete and the air con makes it a comfortable place to relax on any days not spent out and about.

Everything said below about location is spot on. The circumvisuviana makes this an ideal base to travel economically and efficiently.

Again as below, what really completes the experience is Antonello, your host. He is extremely welcoming and helpful and spent time planning our days out here as soon as we arrived. Aside from being an expert host more practically he knows everyone and is willing to go the extra mile to make things happen as you wish. For example asking his brother in law, who conviniently owns the local bus company to make special arrangements for getting to the airport.

In short a lovely appartment in a lovely place with a lovely host. Thank you Antonello.

We enjoyed staying in Tetto Lilla and found all positive statements from previous reviews to be true. So this review is about the location. There is no beach to speak of at the sea front, but a long and beautiful promenade where you can see Capri and watch wonderful sunsets. The Monte Faito cable car was closed for repair with no mention when it will open again. Lots of small shops for an authentic shopping experience. The Circumvesuviana railway is excellent for reaching Pompej, Herculaneum and the Villa Oplontis which is very impressing as well. You can buy a combination ticket for all three, and by not buying it at Pompej we avoided queueing. We cannot recommend Boscoreale which is one of the sites on the combi ticket for Pompej etc., as it was a long way from the station, the villa could only be visited from outside, and most of the explanations in the museum were in Italian only. We also had a nice boat trip to Capri. A car is definitely not needed when you stay at Tetto Fiorito.

We enjoyed our stay at Tetto Fiorito, it was clean and quiet and the service of our Host, Antonello, was impeccable. He recommended a restaurant nearby where we had our best meal in Italy (Zemberiniello). You make your own breakfast and have a large selection of pastries, bread, cereal, eggs & bacon (on request), milk, juice, tea, and coffee. No separate kettle, you heat water in the microwave and use the small percolator on the stove for the coffee. There's a couple of small stores nearby, as well, so cooking a light dinner is easy if you don't want to go out.
I would say the only drawback to our stay was that items such as bath towels were damp the entire time. The radiators were turned on in the evening for just a couple of hours, which also controlled the towel warmer in the bathroom. (There's a separate heating/air con unit in the bedroom area under guest control). However, I'm sure if we'd requested a set of dry towels they would have been happily provided.

Room Tip: Pay heed to the hotel's website with directions and the fact there is NO lift. You can get help...

Thank you so much for your fantastic review!!!!

GRAZIE!!!!

About the towels, we change it every 3 nights. This is the reason we didn't change it for you. Anyway, as you told, if you advise us that the towels were wet, we change it immediately.

We hope to see you again in the next future.

A wonderful place and an ideal location midway from Naples, the Vesuvius ruins, and the Sorrento/Amalfi coasts Proprietor Antonello Assante-Vescovo is a hospitality industry veteran with Neapolitan warmth who knows how to make guests feel at home and well taken care of. Walking distance to train, a number of excellent restaurants, and shops. We'll be coming back to Tetto Fiorito.

The flat is located in a new structure on the roof of an old four storey building very conveniently located close to shops, the sea front, the harbour, the Circumvesuviana railway and the Monte Faito cable car (although this facility has been mysteriously closed since last September for "repair"). It is also about half a mile from a stop for the Naples -Sorrento airport bus which is certainly a more convenient way of getting to Castellamare by public transport than using the often grossly overcrowded Circumvesuviana.
The flat we rented was Casa Iolanda B which is a bit lighter and brighter than flat A although both are beautifully decorated, equipped and furnished. The bed and chairs are genuinely comfortable and there is little audible traffic noise despite the building being in the heart of town. Any minor problems were immediately dealt with by the owner and the only mildly negative point that we could find was some variability in the hot water supply to the shower. The flat is also, due to the number of stairs, unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
The highlight of this apartment is a beautifully maintained patio full of colourful flowers, herbs and fruit trees with an uninterrupted view of Monte Faito. It was a great pleasure to sit out and watch the mountain particularly in the late afternoon and evening when the terrace was in shade.
The owner and his family live in the same building and were immensely helpful especially in the matter of local transport for which information can be surprisingly hard to track down . We booked through the holiday rental agency "Summer in Italy" which did not advertise it as a B&B but we still received the breakfast service even though we were not expecting it. He even went out to buy us a proper gas kettle after we had explained the peculiarities of this object and its importance to the British way of life!
