“Ok - but not great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2010

- They could have offered dishwasher tablets/powder and toilet paper. 3 *** (???)
- Reception didn't inform (know) that the boat to Venice was only on Thursdays(low season?)
- Towels being left on chairs near pool, to keep chairs, for after beach = 3-4 hours with just towels, and no guests. Annoying when trying to find a free one.
- Clean, but not spotless. Dusty and fingerprints.
- Only Italian and German channels on TV.
+ Quiet at night.
+ Washing machine. If you want to wash clothes on holiday.
+ Friendly staff.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2008

We recently stayed at the Villaggio Hemingway for a week from 16 August. Unlike the previous poster we didn't have any real problems with mossies when we were there. I got a couple of bites but the rest of the family didn't get any and we were able to sit outside in the evenings and didn't use any mosquito repellant. Perhaps going later in the season made the difference. I also picked up a leaflet from the tourist office which included lists of all the doctors in Caorle including several English speaking ones so not sure why the first poster didn't think there was one for 20K.
The complex itself was great. Very clean and modern with one of the nicest bathrooms I've seen in a self catering apartment! Kitchen was generally well equipped but like with many European apartments it didn't have an oven which limits the cooking options, not that we cooked that much though as there were lots of good restaurants in Caorle. The two pools (one suitable for younger children, the other about 3ft 6 deep) were nice but as usual you had to get there early to get a sun lounger. There were very few other English guests there at the time we were there; our boys (12 and 10) didn't bother with the kids club but it could be a problem if you were intending to use it as there may not be any other English speaking children there.
Caorle itself has a nice old centre with plenty of shops and restaurants, (about 5-10 mins walk). The beach is massive and you get 2 free nice sunloungers included which is a bonus. The sea is very shallow and safe for young kids-you could walk out for about 300/400 yards and still only be waist deep. We hired some kayaks and pedalos with a slide which were good fun. Venice is a must whilst you're there (about 1-2 hours away depending which transport option you use) but was very hot and crowded. We had a great time for a week but I think we'd have got bored if we'd spent any longer there. We combined it with a week at Lake Garda which is a good 2 centre option.

  • Liked — Clean and modern apartments
  • Disliked — Had a small town house style with two flights of stairs!

Mosquitos will eat you! We had to come home after 3 days as I developed an allergic reaction to the bites I had 71 bites by day 2, I developed infections and decided to come home as did not want to end up in hospital over there also the nearest doc was 20KM away and no hospital nearby so I didn't feel safe, although lady in the farmacia helpful, very expensive- antihistamin cream was 14 euros! best to pack some, you will definately need!

Crystal the agents we booked through said ideal for families - OK for younger children but not teenagers). You had to find your own entertainment, we didn't have a car so we felt a bit stranded as out the way. Good beach but the mozzies! Also jammed packed and way too hot! Definatley not good at night - they bite more! Make sure you take anti bite spray and put it on all over as they get into your clothes, I was covered but had sprayed the visible bits outside my clothes - but not good enough, some of the bars and restaraunts give you free spray to sqiurt on while you're sitting there but that's usually too late.

The pool at the hotel - Hemingway Apartments was OK, you can hire bikes from there for 5 euros a day, cheaper than in the town. Great 4 uni cycle things with a roof you can pedal on as a family, 14 euros an hour. But that was all there was to do for teenagers really the bikes and the pool as beach too hot and crowded. We were really disapointed in the area and the fact we came home early too.

Not a patch on Lake Garda - Pescheira the best place to be, we tried Caorle but never again. Also at Hemingway Apartments, a fuse blew and we were without electricity from 12:00 - 3:30 and no-one could come put as we were told it was siesta time- so not very helpful as no air con (it was 35 degrees that day and we had just been shopping so ice creams were melting in our fridge.
So if you do go make sure you have everything to protect you from the mossies!

  • Liked — The air contioning
  • Disliked — too small said 4-6 but really only OK for 3-4
