“Two days in Brescia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012

Historical centre well worth a visit with its 2 duomos side by side, one old and the other even older. Lively outdoor market on Saturday. The Monastero di Santa Julia, containing the city museum is fascinating. The oratory of Santa Maria, in the museum complex, is not to be missed. The castle at the top of hill makes a very pleasant walk with great views. When we visited it, on a Sunday, there was music, food and a lovely family atmosphere.

“great castle grounds, take your time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

We started our tour to the castle from the foot of Colle Cidneo - at the site of the ancient Roman ruins. A bus from the city centre is going there but it's within walking distance. At that so called Piazza del Foro there is also a very well equipped and most helpful tourist information where you will find advice on everything you'll need during your stay in Brescia and beyond. We were most positively surprised!
On the path to the castle we were enchanted by the great historic flair ..walking on ancient pavements (I recommend good shoes) in narrow streets and between ancient architecture that was guiding us to the castle. There is lots of beauty to find in those surroundings to the castle, actually throughout the whole city. There are wonderful walking paths taking you around the castle embedded in a pretty nature setting and there was truly an extraordinary atmosphere there. By foot it might take you about 15 minutes to get to the castle from the Piazza del Foro, but take your time in order to be able to enjoy your tour. It could get exhausting. There was no entrance fee to the castle itself and exploring the castle grounds between those well preserved fortress walls is absolutely worth a visit!
There were actually some more sights to see: the Mirabella-style tower with XIVth century frescoes and a museum of ancient weapons in its original 14th century keep, that we reached only to understand that it just closed before us - totally arbitrarily at 12.30 noon! due to some internal event. So Italian institutions still do that to tourists, mercilessly - additionally to short opening hours of churches due to siesta (midday break). Never forget that when you plan your sightseeing trip to Italy!

“Always great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

This place is fantastic if you have small children (but also for a romantic walk in the park). Certainly not comparable with famous castles elsewhere, it is really huge and full of wonderful corners and paths where children can play out their fantasies, run around and play knight or whatever. Surely Brescia is no tourist destination, but if you're there on business and have your kids or lover with you, take them there. You won't be disappointed.

“Nothing Special.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Spent time to be there and the museum was closed.
good enviroment, good ancient castle , good maiteinance , but inside NOTHING! They are using this Castello just for some show and really was a delusion. you must take some information in the City office when they have in the calender some date in wich they are organizing some event , otherwise useless to go. Check the time , becouse there are no one tehre and you must ask in the city office.

“Brilliant views and a nice walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

We visited in December, after we walked up the wrong path to the castle which lead to a locked gate, we had to turn around and go back, and try again, turns out we were round the back of the castle, which you can easily get to through lots of different side streets, the castle is free to visit and a lovely walk to the top will show you a great view of the town below, we had clear skies so could see for quite along way, defintely work a visit!!
