“THE hotel for bicycle riders and family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

I believe that the best way to judge a hotel is asking whether you may came back or not. Well, in order to make this very objective and totally non biased I will allow my children and wife to answer this question regarding Hotel Funivia: a big big YES!!! In any context and in any place, this hotel would be an excellent hotel. Personnel are friendly and helpful. Rooms and more than comfortable; everything is tidy and furniture is not excessive. Bathroom –at least in the case of my room- was new and perfect. Food is tasty, Italian cuisine; menu varies every day and comes in several dishes making it, to some extent, too much if you are trying to control your weight. The wine list is fair. Access and public areas are classic for a snow & sport resort. Wi-Fi works smoothly although you may require renewing your access code on a daily basis. The spa area & gym is fair and functional to the ski & bike activities, likewise the pool & solarium. Now, bringing the facilities into the context of Bormio, you may immediately tell that we are talking about a seasonal hotel oriented to tourists during holidays and, therefore, the amenities and alternatives of such a wonderful place in Italy and Südtirol amplify the already high appreciation of Hotel Funivia. Special mention is to be made to the amenities available for children, baby-sitting, food, etc. In few words, this is not only a good hotel, is also a perfect sport hostel, and a marvelous family oriented lodge. If you think these are already good reasons to choose Hotel Funivia, you are right, however, I encourage you to hear the following: If the purpose of your trip is flying to Italy, particularly visiting Bormio because you are a cycling fan as I am, and you know that Bormio is the bicycle Mecca that allow you to attack the historically famous Passo dello Stelvio, the epic Passo de Gavia and the challenging Passo de Mortirolo…. Well if you are one of those crazy fans…. Let me tell you that Hotel Funivia is THE hotel for you. In order to explain this assertion, I think you may know that in Bormio there are hundreds of hotels, large, small, many… all of them are “Cycling & Bikers Friendly”, but there is only one, which is property of, run by, and focused only on, a bicycle rider and his/her family. That hotel is the Funivia! No question, no other. That said, I beg to check its bicycle facilities and support resources, including the continuing organization of perfect cycling routes, bike rental, workshop and guardroom, cleaning, laundry…. Etc. etc. etc. You will feel a “pro” under the expert advice rendered by the bicycle guides. Everything here is oriented and meticulously thought for bicycle riders, for our needs and to make as live the experience that we wanted to have and for what we have traveled from far away to live in the hearth of cycling-Italy. The crucial combination that gives Hotel Funivia and advantage to other hotels in Bormio relays on the fact that it provides a perfect mix of cycling experience and family life; therefore, if your plan is to bring your family with you when visiting Bormio in the context of bicycle riding, you shall make reservation at Hotel Funivia. I will finish this review exactly from where I started… we will come back to Bormio, and there will only one alternative to stay… guess where?

Room Tip: Family rooms are a perfect choice. Food is a lot! Half pension is just fine.

I went to Bormio with 5 other couples for 1 week with the intention of some cycling with a few mates. Always with venues there are issues keeping your partners entertained as you cycle for many hours. This was not the case in Bormio. Amazing place for cycling and for other activities.
The hotel rooms, food and service were exceptional. We rode daily with the staff on planned rides taking in the history of locations and also just being competitive with the locals. These guys even take your warm clothes to the top of mountains and arrange lifts if required. The workshop where the bikes are stored is great. It has inspired me to build one myself.
The food for both breakfast and especially dinner was incredible. On one of the nights, it was 7 courses! Value is exceptional.
Rooms are great also. Large rooms with verandahs and your cycling apparel is washed daily.
Lastly, the staff. They were so helpful and accommodating that was refreshing. I will stay in contact with them in the future and make my way back there. The staff are happy to work which is a credit to Hotel Funivia. This makes a real difference to the customers.
Keep up the good work and see you soon for a rematch on the Stelvio!

Clean, very welcoming, always at your service, fantastic with our 3 small children, anything needed was never a problem. The guides were friendly and very encouraging on the big rides. The support van always well stocked with more than enough food and drink. They took all the photos and provided a personalised CD of the rides which meant I could leave my camera with my wife. They will bend over backwards to
make your stay special and memorable.

Whatever you like during your vacation ( relax, biking, walking,) Hotel funivia is the place to be in Bormio. The service from the hotel staff is outstanding and the Italian kictchen is very tasty. It is one of the best bike hotels I have ever been and would like to recommend to everyone that is looking for an exiting biking holiday.

This hotel experience (does not justify it to say 'stay') was remarkable. From the incredible multi-course, beautifully presented dinners to the clean bike kits awaiting each morning, hotel Funivia went from strength to strength. However, what impressed us the most was the generous staff. Never had we been greeted more warmly or openly.., we were even lucky enough to enjoy a spectacular lunch at the family's closeby mountain hut on the penultimate day of our stay.. Very special meal with true Italian family spirit! The hotel is perfectly located, great value for money and we will definitely be back!

A lovely friendly place to stay. Anna and everyone were so welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, bright and with a lovely view of the mountains.

A brilliant place to stay with or without your bicycle. Lots of activities for the keen cyclist are also on offer.

I even bought the hotel cycling kit !

Internet access is free also.

Parking is good too with a choice of ground level free and underground parking for 6 euros the crest of the ramp from the car park is tough for lowered cars.

i loved watching the rabbits and goats at the rear garden of the hotel during breakfast.
