“Not a four star hotel, terrible food, rude and unprofessional staff.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013 via mobile

Decor was very dated and not four star. The service was poor as was the food and drink extremely over priced. The waiting staff acted unprofessional and were inappropriate on several occasions, they also had very poor personal hygiene. Food was served uncooked to several people and was not of a four star quality. Money went missing from several members of our groups rooms and after cleaning the rooms were left unlocked. Overall this hotel was lacking in all aspects and staff had no understanding of what good service is. very disappointed.

A wonderful, typical but high level accomodation for a four seasons holiday in a worldwide famous location.
A professional team welcomes all the guests and, as soon as you walk into the lobby you feel home.
A quite big number of rooms, very comfortable and with all the accessories and the commodities you may need.
After a full day outdoor, you can enjoy the internal spa with sauna, steam bath, pool and, if you have time, a relaxing massage is the right choice.
Finally it's dinner time: a five star restaurand with a broad and top class choice of wine will bring you to the edge of heaven!

This is not a four star hotel by any means. The decor is more three star whereas the food is one star, maybe. The rooms are OK, with lots of storage, and the location is OK, but on a busy road and a good 20 minute walk to the slopes. But it is the food here which is the big weakness. Absolutely horrendous.

Bormio is a delightful old Spa Town with excellent skiing all around. The hotel is well located in the town. It is relatively modern - immaculately clean, with some pleasant common areas like the lounge bar. The fitness suite is extremely well equipped and well run. All of the staff that I met were very friendly and helpful.

That's the positive bit - there were several negatives though.

The ski locker room is big & well lit. But even though it is 'heated' - there is no facility for drying ski boots and they were as damp in the mornings as when they were put on the shelf.

We had a car and so required a parking space - the above ground parking was frequently full - and the garage area, even though pretty empty, was charged at 10 euro per day ...

Finally, the food. Really not acceptable in a four star hotel. Breakfast offered a limited range of choices - frequently the "bacon" (actually fried processed ham) and scrambled egg option had run out. Dinner tended to be very bland, and ranged from acceptable - to poor.

Overall, I wouldn't hurry back, but if I visited again I would take a B&B option as there are plenty of excellent places to eat within a 10 minute walk of the hotel.

Room Tip: You do hear other people moving around the hotel. Towards the end of the corridors is quieter.

The Cristallo is in a good location right next to the bus station which links the resort to Tirano with excellant train transfers from all 3 of Milan's airports. 50 metres to the pedestrian street with shops & restaurants. 10 mins easy walk to the main Gondola. The hotel has a very nice feel to it with a comfortable bar and stube. The wellness centre is small but has everything you need after a hard days skiing, Jacuzzi, Steam, Sauna & ice plunge. The restaurant was comfortable with a reasonable breakfast selection. Dinner was 5 courses which was pleasant out of 5 I would give it a 3-5 although we did not have any reason to complain. The rooms are very spacious and are nicely decorated.
The staff were very friendly & helpful. You can even buy your lift pass from reception save queing at the lift station.
All in all our stay at the Cristallo was great value for money & we would definately stay here again for our next ski holiday in Bormio.

Room Tip: The hotel offers family interconnecting rooms

The ski season had already started, so very hard to find accommodation at Cima Bianca on the spur of the moment!
So had to drive back down the Stelvio pass and as it was getting late and my little boy was getting tired!
Pulled into the first hotel we passed in Bormio which was the Cristallo.
Four star!
As it was just a pop in for the night, we didn't get to use any of the facilities, so just used the room to sleep and bathe!
It's conveniently located and it seems like they have many facilities. The room was large for two, clean and comfortable, if not a little dated.
The front desk staff were quite helpful, but for a 4 star hotel the continental breakfast and dining room was very underwhelming! €120 a night was not over priced if you shared it as a family room, but might be worth doing a bit of research if you are just staying for one night.

For Swiss resident, Bormio is a very good alternative compare to the very expensive and very often low quality service you can find in Engadine. Hotel Cristallo is a very nice place to stay in center of Bormio.
