“Great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Cycled up and down Stelvio from Bormio in early October (we probably left it about as late in the year as feasibly possible - 16C at the bottom, but with 45cm of snow forecast for the top the following day).

As a group of 4, we had one guy with us who had done this previously, the other 3 of us were rather less experienced.

All in all the experience was pretty amazing. That said, it's hard. We had just about every type of weather possible - fog, rain, sunshine and snow.

The ride up is steep and challenging; it's a public road, there are cars, motor-bikes and truck and a couple of pretty narrow tunnels.

On the way down, the wind-chill and the fact that you're not pounding away on the pedals is pretty extreme - even with gloves and a windproof jacket it was freezing at the higher altitudes. Keeping my frozen fingers squeezing the brake levers all the way down was a painful challenge even in 2 pairs of gloves and several stops to get our core temperatures back up.

I'd never done anything quite like this before and it was a great experience; I consider myself reasonably fit but this was quite a challenge - not to be underestimated.

“Amazing Driving and Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The Stelvio Pass was rated by Top Gear a the best driving road in the world. I did this in Mid September 2013 and was not dissapointed. The road is totally amazing and I doubt that there's anything that can beat it. Be prepared though that this is not a road you can fly along, it's actually quite slow given the closeness of the switchbacks and the need to watch out for cyclists. It was snowing on top when we got there and the place is a mecca for Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches. I just loved the experience, definately one for the bucket list

“OMG!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

What a trip! Having spent days in and around the Alps, we did Stelvio on my sons birthday. Him on a 2013 GS Adventure, me on a 2013 Watercooled GS! Trip of a lifetime, our fellow travellers has seen the pass before! It was good weather, at least on the way up, and the views were just glorious!
The ride was challenging, don't know if I would have wanted 2 up, but exhilarating at the same time!

A must do trip!
