“Stelvio Pass Italy (Alps)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This is the second time we have rode the Stelvio pass (July 2012) previously (Begining June 2007) and it was even better second time round although there was more traffic. We left from Lake Como in the morning, rode the pass by lunch time, then on to Munich Germany for tea time. This is truely an awe inspiring ride. If you have always dreamed of riding your bike to a location such as this, i can only say go for it!!!! The air is so clean, the road has more twists and hairpins than anywhere i've ever been. We stopped for a good look back at the road and surrounding mountains and no explanation would do the scene justice so I wont even try. Go there and see for yourself. You wont be disappointed.

“Stellar Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

The Stelvio Pass is an amazing trip - the road is literally a staircase climbing up the side of the mountain and you travel it along with hordes of other cars, motorbikes, and unbelievebly, cyclists! It is incredibly narrow and the drop from the sides is pretty intimidating. We travelled this road in a tiny Peugot 208 and even that felt a bit too big for some of the road. We watched as cars ahead of us had to negotiate some of the corners as a 3-point turn, and at times traffic coming the other way had to reverse or sneak as close to the side as possilbe to let other cars through. Views from the top are spectacular - make sure the weather is clear when you drive this road. Incredible and unmissable but won't be doing it again in a hurry - it's not for the faint-hearted!

“a petrolheads delight”

The drive up and down the mountain and the views en route.
Surprised how many cyclists tackled this almost 3000 metre high pass.

“The pinnacle of mountain driving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Out of the 6 alpine passes we crossed on our BMW euro delivery tour this was the most spectacular and fun to drive. We ascended from the Bormio side on a rainy day in mid-september. The clouds clung to the high peaks and waterfalls streamed down the mountains. Serene. As we climbed the temp gauge on our car kept dropping. 36...35...34.....
Once over a ridge and onto the valley where the WWI memorial is we could see we were in for some hairy driving to the summit. The road disappeared into the snowy clouds. But our new BMW cab would not be denied.
The last few hundred feet we had to take it slow but the temp did not get below 31 and the snow was not holding on the road. The descent was a little more tricky with me getting to know my new transmission but after a few turns the snow turned back to rain and we were in the clear. A few more turns and we were eating Strudel at the Berghotel Franzenshohe.
The best part about going in inclimate weather was the lack of roadbikes crowding the path. An experience I'll never forget.
