“Good, but be warned ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

We stayed (myself, my mum and my sister) en route to the south. Access possible by gas, lots of one way streets. Parking was included which was one of my requirements. We arrived late and most restaurants were closed so we are in the hotel restaurant. No menu, just what the waitress tells you.... So the next day to our shock we had to pay €45 for three very average plates of pasta! Very overpriced.
The room itself was ok. One bed was hard as a board, but the other 2 were very comfortable. Air conditioning was good and bathroom facilities were fine.
The breakfast spread was amazing and good coffee too.
Oh and the staff were excellent.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

We stopped here en route south through Italy based on reviews and prices online. Double rooms showing online weren't available and prices offered were higher until I showed here the online prices. We had to take a twin room because the doubles weren't available. The room (one of the non refurbished) was dark and had little character. There were no bedside tables, bedside lamps or tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was small and being fairly tall I could only see from the neck down in the mirror and couldn't stand further away as the toilet was in the way!

Other than that, there was very tight parking available and the receptionist and staff were helpful in arranging hot water and milk for tea as well as fixing the air conditioning. It's in the centre of town so easy access to shops and restaurants. Good for a stop but wouldn't like to stay for longer.

Room Tip: Go for a refurbished room.

A convenient stop between Sicily and Rome, we found a modern hotel with parking off street in a locked area. The breakfast was excellent and all service very friendly. The wifi only works in the reception area. It's convenient to the autoway.

"Many thanks Ms Ann for your nice review and thank you for sharing your opinion about our Hotel, with the people of Tripadvisor.
Thanks again for the compliments to the service and breakfast.
I apologize for the wi-fi trouble, you could inform us immediately about the connectivity's problem in the room. Maybe there was a technical problem that we would have happily resolved soon order to be able to give you a service that we provide for free."
Emilia.

It's been a while since I stayed here and the hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard, the staff have changed but they are as friendly as ever, if I have to criticise anything it would only be the room we have is a little too dark for the wife, and strange as it seems for a double room there is only a single cup. A full Sky tv service is available (if you want it). If you are looking for somewhere to stay close to Paestum (20 mins drive) or Agropoli (45 mins) then stay here.

Buongiorno Sig. Wayne,
Emilia.

Safe building, limited parking but good location for the money. We planned to see Paestum and Salerno without paying an arm and a leg for it. This did the job!

We lost our camera cables and the staff worked out details for us to pick them up. Happy as can be for being able to recover them. Communication issues occurred occasionally due to the language barrier but staff speaks enough English to get you by.

No swimming pool or fitness area.

Recommended if you are not looking for a touristy pricey area. Italians charge a city fee per night ($7.74). Our cost was $81/ night.

After traversing the Amalfi coast we were looking for a non tourist hotel in Battapaglia. This is a modern clean hotel that is rated 3 star, but was equal to a 4 star that we left the night before in Rome. Larger clean room with flat screen tv and excellent air conditioning. We had two single beds for 85 euro that included wi-fi and an extensive breakfast without hot items. Though fresh mozzarella was served! A double bedded room is less. The restaurant serves a five course dinner that is 15 Euro. They start with a appetizer with salami and pickled vegetables, The second course is a choice of 5 pasta dishes and the main course also is a 5 option choice. Very generous portions that we could not finish. Dessert includes a mixture of fruit. Water and beer or wine is included as well as a lemon aperitif. This appears to be mostly a business hotel. After all these wonderful things, nobody in the hotel speaks much English. Knowing a little Italian, we were able to negotiate our stay well. If you are willing to pull out your Italian phrase book, this is a great choice on your way to Paestum.

This hotel was a fantastic value for the money! We chose it as a convenient stopover on our way to and from the south of Italy (stayed twice, one night each), and were happily surprised at how modern and comfortable it was! Off street parking, great staff, nicely decorated, large variety of foods at breakfast (though many sweets as is normal in Italy), extremely accommodating and welcoming to our one and a half year old. (travel crib 5 Euro extra)
The neighborhood seemed a bit scary when we arrived on a Sunday night--everything closed, graffiti everywhere, few people around on the streets. The next morning, however, it was clear that this is a bustling, safe, REAL southern Italian community, and the locals don't seem to think twice about the graffiti. There is a great inexpensive pizzeria across the street to the left, and any shop you could possibly need is within walking distance-- good thing since the traffic on a weekday is crazy! The hotel is also convenient for a daytrip to Paestum, Salerno, Amalfi coast, Pompeii -- all within 30 to 45 minutes or so.
Our room was great: large according to European standards, comfortable bed, spotlessly clean, TV with some programming in English, a refrigerator, and a big modern bathroom! We LOVED the bathroom with its great shower, great water pressure and modern fixtures. (All of this is not necessarily common in the hotels WE can afford during high season in Italy!) The air conditioning worked extremely well, and we were able to control the temperature ourselves.
Overall, this hotel has all the amenities of a more expensive place at a very reasonable price. Though downtown Battipaglia is not pretty by any stretch of the imagination, the Hotel Palace was an unexpected highlight of our 3 week trip, and we highly recommend it as a one or two night stopover.

  • Liked — Modern -- in facilities and decor
  • Disliked — There is nothing I didn't like.
