“Quiet, right in the middle of the slopes. Nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

We stayed at Jafferau during the Carnival Holiday.
The way up to the Hotel is steep and winding (for 7 Kms..), luckily the street was clean till almost 300m from the Hotel entrance, we have had to park outside, but it was OK.
The Hotel has a big pool, the staff is very responsive and friendly, the ski rental shop is in the same building. Very convenient!
It is a real ski in ski out.
When you're there you will not think of coming down to the town, mostly in the winter time.
The restaurant would benefit from an upgrade although Italian food is good. Breakfast needs more variety.
The snow was excellent and we had some slopes only for ourselves even during the Holiday period! Very quiet and worthwhile!

I've just returned from staying at Hotel Jafferau and we had a great time.

The stay wasn't without it's complications, as we booked the holiday as full board through hotels.com - When we arrived we were informed that they don't offer full board and that it was a mistake. Very difficult to communicate with the people on reception as their English was very limited. In the end we had to contact hotels.com ourselves and resolve the situation. We also had to pay 30 euros for the Gondola to get to the hotel (on their website they say this is free) but we were told on arrival this wasn't the case. We had to order a separate ski pass and they charged us 20 euros for them to go and get it, which delayed us getting out on the slopes straight away. The lady on reception couldn't really grasp why we wanted to go skiing - bizarre.

The hotel seems like it is family run, and the majority of the staff we're very accommodating (the owner an exception who walked around looking at guests like they were an inconvenience to him). The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and the location of the hotel was perfect. Walk out, put on your skis and you're on the slope. We couldn't believe how quiet it was too. For our first couple of says (midweek) we probably saw a maximum of 10 other people on the slopes - Ideal for me learning to ski.

The waiter in the hotel was superb - very good service, and more than happy to translate the menu each evening for us (even printed an English copy out for us on his day off). Every night we had a 4 course meal and it was very nice food. Breakfast is fairly limited, but fine for me so no issues.

There is a free shuttle bus every 30 mins that takes you to Campo Smith for skiing which is very good - A lot busier than the slopes by the hotel though.

All in all we had a great time. Shame about the early hiccups, but we didn't let it ruin our holiday.

Good place to stay with family, with very kind staff always happy to help and genuinely nice. Rooms are good standard and very good value for monies. You put on the skis and are already in the slopes. Need a 4x4 to get up there with snow, unless you pack down in town and get the "ovovia". Overall great experience. We shall certainly go back.

Ok. For Starters AMAZING for skiing.
All You do is wake up and hit the slops. What is bad is there disorginization and to get there.
THREE HOURS stuck in a Blizzard. Everyone was whining. All because our driver didnt now how to put chains (thats all not the hotels fault) my point is more signs will be helpful. JUST TO WARN YOU THAT IF YOU WANT TO USE THE POOL YOU MUST BRING YOUR CAP AND AT THE END PAY 3 EUROS EVERY TIME YOU USE THE POOL !!!!!
Breakfast was O.k but if you want to eat PIZZA tell the driver to take you to Cianfuran (AMAZING).

word to the wise: do NOT follow your sat nav, no matter what it says. we ended up going up the wrong mountain, which in a large car on single narrow winding mountain roads that eventually turn into an off road experience, is no fun....getting down again is even more hair raising especially when your brakes start smoking!

Instead, make sure you head into Bardonecchia and follow the limited signs for Hotel Jaffreau...you should not be going 'off piste' at any time. if you do run out of road, you've gone wrong and should turn back.

Eventually, you will stumble across this Alpine hotel and you will head straight for the bar, situated right next to check-in, I think they've seen it all before. The Hotel offers some fantastic views, swimming pool, and as your brakes are cooked, you may as well enjoy a meal at hotel, which was superb. We couldn't fault it. we wanted to spend another night but time was against us. great place.

Having read some bad reviews on Trip Advisor just before we went I was quite worried, but I am pleased to say this hotel was really very good. Our room was very comfortable and a good size. We had a balcony in the sun with a wonderful view. The spa was lovely and towels, slippers etc were provided. Being located right in the middle of a piste was excellent and if you wanted to go to the other ski area this was very easy with the free shuttle bus from the bottom of the pist. The food was very nice and we hadn't realised but our dinners were included in the price of the stay, such good value. There was some excellent wine to buy too. A lot of the reviews on Trip Advisor say that the staff are rude but we found them to be very helpful and friendly. Maybe the problem was these people spoke no Italian because the hotel and whole resort is very Italian focused, so maybe we had a better stay because speaking Italian we could understand what was going on. But to me that is perfect, I would not want a "Brits abroad" holiday in any case so the lack of fry up in the morning and English speakers was refreshing. I had such a great stay in this clean, friendly, comfortable, relaxing, excellent location hotel. I would not hesitate to return. The only thing I would say is that due to the location some taxi drivers may struggle, ours had to get his snow chains on at the end. But you can always walk the last few metres or call the hotel for help if necessary.

Room Tip: We got a superior room so had a balcony. We were looking down the mountain and the view was amazing...

On a skiing holiday with my family in February 2013. Great venue, with friendly helpful staff. Directly on the slopes and ski school adjacent to the structure. Appreciated the baby club and baby dance (the kids had fun). The only drawback is kitchen. A self-service at lunch practically like an hospital (it's not difficult to make two chips and two hot dogs instead of stew and mash potatoes) For dinner while appreciating the effort ther's a futile search of "refinement" with questionable results. Convenient free shuttle service to and from Bardonecchia, I recommend to use it as the way to get to the hotel can be REALLY dangerous for frequent snowfalls (best to park the car down and be picked up unless you have a 4x4 with winter tires).

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor as much on the side as you can have a better view and less noise from the...
