“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of September and really enjoyed ourselves. The location was perfect for us, a nice stroll along the promenade to the centre and close to the supermarkets and bus stop.

Breakfast was great, well laid out and plentiful, served in a lovely big room with tables outside too.

We had a superior room with a side view. The room was spotless as was the rest of the hotel. We had the odd drink at the bar and found the prices cheaper than bars in the resort.

I would recommend this hotel, and Bardolino itself. Very pretty and cosmopolitan.

ps I noticed on the Thomson site that the Hotel has plans to build a swimming pool for next year, wonder if it'll be in the waste land at the side?

If you would like the best, ask for a room with view of the Garda lake and your own balcony. The hotel is alomg the beach road. Parkin could be arranged outside the door to an ok price. It is very clean and the personell is friendly and supportive. The hotel has a little pool and a sundeck on the roof. A privat beach is available just across the street. Dinner in the town center is just a short walk on the boardwalk by the lake away. I isn´t cheap but I will rcomend it highly.

Room Tip: If you want the best get a lakeview room or save some euros and enjoy the privat beach or the sundec...

We stayed 3 nights here as a family of five in a triple and double room. Very spacious rooms, lovely balcony and perfect location. Would highly recommend this hotel for a waterfront holiday with children or without.

This was my third visit to Bardolino and it was by far the best hotel I have stayed in there.

The location was perfect, the lakeside terrace was wonderful and the service second to none. There were lots of sunbeds and the staff seemed to be able to work out how many to put out each day. There was also shade and plenty of space between the sunbeds.

The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. We had a good sized bathroom with an excellent shower. My only complaint would be that there was only one chair in the bedroom. The balcony was very small and looked out onto waste ground.

I have never met reception staff anywhere who were more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were always courteous and cheerful.

The continental breakfast was good. Tables were cleared immediately and dishes constantly replenished. The bar service both in the hotel and at the lakeside was excellent.

It was only a five minute walk to either the town centre or the ferry port where there were dozens of very good bars and restaurants. We had deliberately chosen bed and breakfast and were so pleased that we had done that.

Room Tip: Try and book a lake facing room with a decent size of balcony.

We found this hotel after a long search on the internet in an attempt to find an hotel that does not take dogs. Not that I have anything against dogs (provided their owners are properly trained), it’s just that I can sometimes have an allergic reaction to certain doggy hairs and smells. It is surprising just how many hotels allow dogs into their rooms nowadays. We eventually booked Villa Letizia on a Thomson/Cristal package.

This hotel is one of the cleanest that we have ever stayed in – and we are particular when it comes to cleanliness. Everything was so fresh and clean and seemed newly refurbished. The room was most comfortable, as was the bed, and everything worked. We even put the TV on to keep up to date with the Olympics via the BBC World channel. The double glazing and air conditioning worked perfectly to keep the room cool in the extreme heat of early August when we were there.

Package tour guests will get one of the side rooms. The larger family rooms seem to overlook the courtyard and the smaller double rooms overlooking some waste ground with a couple of larger hotels on the other side. The rooms to the front (some views are obstructed by trees) seem to be reserved by those travelling independently – mainly Germans and Dutch plus a few east Europeans and Austrians according to the cars parked outside. The road outside of the hotel was very quiet – more cyclists and people than cars. Although there is a market on this road every week we heard nothing from our room during the 6am set up.

Staff were all highly professional, helpful, friendly and multi lingual.

The buffet style breakfast was ‘continental’ (who wants a ‘full English’ when the ‘welcome to Bardolino’ sign outside the hotel was showing the 8am temperature as 30C - the afternoons did get a bit warm!). Breakfast was perfectly adequate with plenty of choice. However, if eating outside, don’t leave the food unattended while you go for extras – the local sparrows are amazing thieves.

We didn’t use the rooftop area and small pool – it seemed a bit of a sun trap and a bit too hot when we were there.

The hotel has a private area on the lake shore. There are a number of trees in this area and that gave shade when required but with enough room to move into the sun if the suntan required a top up. There are more than enough sun loungers to go around. Beach towels can be hired from reception. There is a drinks service from the Hotel bar.

Location of the hotel could not be better: on the quiet edge of the town about a 200m stroll to the (very) busy town centre with its many excellent restaurants and bars (and shops!).

Overall, we found this hotel and holiday overall as one of the best that we have had. 80% of all visitors to Lake Garda are return visitors and we can understand why. With the vast numbers of holiday makers, it really should have been something that I should have hated. Strangely, I loved the place. It all seemed to work perfectly. And there is so much to see and do in the region. Verona and Venice must not be missed. The views are amazing and the climate very warm (there can be the odd storm in the south – more in the north).

Bardolino itself is a perfect base, situated in the warmer, sunnier southern part of the lake. Lake Garda is massive and this expanse of water with mountains to the north, east and west and relatively flat land to the south, it is obvious just why this central northern Italy resort has a central southern Spain climate. A true micro climate – the most northerly location where Lemon trees can grow. The small harbour is the starting place to explore the Lake via the reliable and excellent ferry service. For such a small place, this town has produced an amazing orchestra (the Bardolino Philharmonic) and choir that give free concerts most Wednesday evenings in front of the church during the high season. Get there early to get a seat. The 2 female vocal soloists are easily professional standard and the classic tenor soloist (name of Pavarotti!!! – first name Enzo) had the audience roaring for more. The Italians certainly like their tenors!

The nearby towns of Garda (about 2K to the north) and Lazise (about 4K to the south) are well worth a visit. Walking there is easy but be aware that, with the heat and dodging cyclists, it may take twice as long as one would usually expect. Take some water with you. We walked to both towns but we got the ferry back from Lazise.

Of note is the exceptional cleanliness and tidiness of the Lake and shoreline – and this is despite the huge number of holiday makers. However, this does have a down side. The wild life in and around the lake was surprisingly not a lot. Some sparrows plus mallards and a few coots on the lake and that was almost about it. This is a concern. I was expecting much more variety including wildlife that I don’t see in the village where I live in the UK. With plans to build even more hotels and cycle paths around the lake, this could be a concern and may temper any decision that I take regarding returning to this area.

Having stayed at The Villa Letizia on several occasions throughout the spring/summer my partner & I never leave disappointed.

The only criticism is that the 35 selected entertainment channels on the TV are biased towards the German/Austrian clientele leaving only CNN for the remainder of guests.

Breakfast is permitted outside on the terrace as well as in the air conditioned dining area, although as smoking is permitted outside it somewhat discourages you to eat al fresco!

Location, cleanliness of private rooms & communal areas are exceptional. The use of secure parking offsite is an additional bonus, especially on Thursdays when parking outside the hotel is forbidden due to the market dominating the main supply road & pedestrian walkway into the towns centre.

I look forward to rebooking with yourselves again in the foreseeable future.
