“Hotel della Baia, Baia Domizia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Every year I visit Hotel della Baia and it never fails to delight me. My visit in June, together with some family members who had not been there before, was really great as always. The hotel is furnished with good taste and attention to detail. We enjoyed the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, the excellent food, the lovely garden leading to the private beach and swimming pool, the welcome always received from staff and owners and the immediate attention given to any request for information or assistance which one may have. Rooms and bathrooms are well-equipped and comfortable.

Check in guy barely hid hi contempt for a one night gringo stay at $170. Room smelled, dinner was outrageously expensive (plus no prices listed, disclosed the next day with the room tab) and beach lifeguard thug didn't bother pretending courtesy or service while ejecting us from empty beach chairs. A former glory type hotel that feeds off 70 year old Italians but becomes immediately Felliniesque when applied to anyone else. 30 years as a hardcore traveler and this is by far one of the worst (if not the top dog) travel experiences I've ever had. Foul from beginning to ends. Oh and the two twin beds shoved together was so comfortable!

Again, like as every year, we spent 12 quiet, relaxing days in the beautyful, peaceful hotel which is managed by the owner's family. No wonder we were impressed about the "accoglienza" (which is just fantastic), inspired of the rich and wide garden, the new pool embedded in the old dunes and the coast where the waves were sounding their never ending melody. You need no distraction, no disco or what ever else; just sit on your balcony and watch the sunset up on the hills of the Gaetas's coast. And, after your sins have tasted this spectacle, you will not miss to laudate the excellent dinner which sometime cloeses with an unique Zabaione.

My husband and I have been vacationing at Hotel Della Baia for the past 5 years now, and we'll keep coming back every summer for our wedding anniversary week because we just love the whole experience! Excellent food, super clean rooms, beautiful green & trees & flowers all around, peaceful, relaxing are simply few of the adjectives that come to mind to describe this hotel. The staff is super friendly & attentive to each and every guest and their needs. The owners are simply delightful & take pride in every little detail in order to make everyone comfortable and at home. This is a MUST experience to believe it place!

we returned to this hotel after a very long time and were pleasantly surprised that the accueil and the ambiance have nor changed (very nice as in the past). It is an oasis of tranquility in the area were it is located. The pool which had been just opened is a tremendous plus.

This review is long overdue and there are simply not enough wonderful things I can say about Hotel della Baia. It has been a part of my life for three years now, and I would like to share my experiences and my thoughts about it here, for future travelers to read.

Hotel della Baia is not just a hotel - a hotel is where you spend the night, maybe have breakfast, and leave again. This, for three years now, has been a retreat for myself and my parents. Every time we come back we are greeted like family, and every time we leave - it's a tearful affair. The hotel is run by the wonderful Signor Walter and by the charming sisters, Signore Velia and Imelde. They all, in fact, are a family and run their hotel as though it were their home. Everything, from the hand-picked art on the walls, to the vases of freshly cut flowers in every single room of the house every morning, is a testimony to their hard work and impeccable taste.

The hotel is small and spread out across just two floors. There is enough choice for anyone can find what they are looking for here: whether you would like a suite with a sea view, a room with large terrace overlooking the shore, or a smaller room overlooking the garden. This is not the place to go if you want booming music, discos or huge crowds of people - it is a place to go when you're looking to get away from stress of every day life, your job, and the noise of the city. The rooms all have air conditioner and at least a small balcony - great if you need to hang up your laundry and swim things to dry. The hotel is smoke-free.

If you are lucky then, during your visit to Hotel della Baia, you will witness a "Music Night". An evening where the hotel invites a wonderful local musician who has been coming to Hotel della Baia for decades, to play traditional Neapolitan songs. Of course this concert is free of charge - it is held outside on the terrace or inside in the common room, that is filled with soft couches, beautiful lamps, and has a fie place.

Everyone who works in this hotel are attentiveness, kindness and good nature personified. The waiters, the cleaning staff, the Chefs, the Maître d'hôtel, the life guard, the gardener and of course Walter, Imelde and Velia - they are priceless. Every time I come to Hotel della Baia I do so at the end of August. At this time there are hardly any people with children, it is less scorching, and it's the perfect get-away from where I usually live, Rome. Having said this, I have spoken with other guests who had been to the Hotel della Baia at the start of the summer with their kids, and have had a wonderful time. The grounds are private and safe, the beach is private and guarded, and there are lots of toys the children can borrow when they are on the beach. These, over the years, have been kindly left there by other guests, and are now there for everyone's use. If you are interested in sports, then Hotel della Baia has a tennis court, a ping pong table, and also bicycles you can rent. All you need to do it ask at the front desk. If you'd like a good read, the hotel has a library of many volumes in English, Italian, French, German and Russian.

Hotel della Baia has its own, private access to the beach. When you are on the beach, and you look left and right, on either side of Hotel della Baia's section of the beach you will see that the sun loungers are stacked in three or four rows, the beaches are crowded and not always clean. The beach of Hotel della Baia has just two rows of sun chairs lined up along the shore, so you are never close to someone else, and there is a real sense of space. The beach is cleaned twice a day by the life guard. He has worked with Hotel della Baia for years now, and he too greets us as a friend - he is a very charming, calm and friendly man and always a pleasure to speak with. He's also always happy to share a seafood recipe or two from his own personal favourites! Which brings me to the subject of food.

The cuisine at Hotel della Baia deserves it's on paragraph ... no, it's own chapter, really! The food is just exquisite. There is the option of having breakfast, lunch and dinner since the hotel has a gourmet restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet with pastries, ham, cheese, jams, yoghurt, honey, cake, coffee, tea, milk and serial. If you like, you can always order eggs any way you like, and the Chef will be happy to cook that too. Something to know is that one of the Chefs that works at the hotel is a prize winning pastry maker - if you're lucky, he may even show you his medal! His desserts are heavenly; this year - upon my request - he made the most amazing Torta Caprese! Every day a new menu is created, and this consists of four first courses, four second courses, and a choice of desserts. The waiters bring out a complimentary starter at the beginning of each meal. The menu allows you, if you (as we did this past year) would like to take all three meals in the hotel, to try different dishes for lunch and dinner. The menu is ever-changing and always a success. The sort of dishes created this year were octopus salad, a myriad of different kinds of grilled fish, many kinds of vegetarian pasta dishes, yet more kinds of seafood pastas, steaks, meatballs, and wonderful green salads with terrific dressings and toppings. This is a sit-down restaurant, so expect beautiful white table-cloths, silverware, etc. The only time this is a buffet is during breakfast, and even then the waiters bring you your beverages. Finally, for those who have been wondering about the best summer dessert - fruit! - you can rest assured that Hotel della Baia has a wide selection of fresh local fruit, all of optimum quality, and this includes: figs, prickly pears, water melon, melon, peaches and many more.

I would like to thank Signor Walter and the Signore Velia and Imelde for their hospitality, generosity and genuine kindness over the years. Hotel della Baia is a real treasure! I hope to be back again in 2013, until then take care!

My wife and me have been guests of a very charming, cosy and children-friendly hotel managed by its family members. The hotel is very quiet an invites with a large garden and the near beach to spend first class relaxing days. The beach is well surveyed and allows the children to undertake their own activities without constant parents guideance. A special comment is dedicated to the cuisine: an initiative and competent Chef with his crew cares for excellent food including the dolci’s desserts.
We are very happy to know this unique and beautyful place since years and certainly would not miss to visit it again. Thank you so much, dear Emelda, dear Velia and dear Walter. We arelloking forward to the next stay in summer 2013.
