We had already heard good things about La Chiusa die Monaci from friends, so my husband and I were looking forward to our two night stay there. Even so, our experience far exceeded our expectations! Cinzia greeted us like long lost friends! We met her entire extended family and felt as if we were family also! The rooms are recently restored; modern yet homey, as they are tastefully decorated with historical artifacts. They are beautiful and immaculate! The bathrooms are spacious, modern, and have the feeling of a spa with fluffy white towels. The room included a bottle of wine, a selection of teas, and water. The breakfast is a buffet of homemade tarts, quiches, homemade jams, honey, cheeses, meats, bread, juice, tea, hot chocolate, and cappuccino or macchiato. Everything is produced locally and Cinzia will tell you where you can purchase good wines, pecorino cheese, and Tuscan ham. Cinzia gave us a map of Arezzo and marked a walking tour for us, complete with notes about what we should look for at each site she marked. She also made restaurant recommendations. Cinzia speaks excellent English, some French, and a little German. We loved hearing Cinzia tell us about the history of her area and look forward to returning to visit other nearby towns we didn't have time to visit on this trip, but most of all to visit with Cinzia and her family again.
