“Something new and different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

An inventive new restaurant opened in December 2011 in the space that used to be Battibecco. The menu devised by Chef Shady combines Tuscan cuisine with touches from Greece and North Africa, hence the name (which might be translated loosely as “Culinary Travels”). The chef’s “amusebouche” was a tiny dish of funghi porcini with grana and a drop of balsamic vinegar. We proceeded with the interesting antipasto plate, which is generous (enough for two) and includes bruschette, affettati, pappa al pomodoro, falafel, humus, and several other items from both sides of the Mediterranean. One of our secondi was coniglio fritto, small pieces of rabbit coated with bread crumbs and deep-fried, unfortunately not just out of the fryer. The rabbit pieces had decent flavour but were dry. The other secondo was a version of the Moroccan classic, a beef tajine. The beef was tender and the spicing delicate and harmonious. An unusual and promising sign for a four-month-old restaurant in Arezzo was that four other tables were occupied on a Wednesday evening; perhaps the pan-Mediterranean menu is more attractive to Italians than other styles of “foreign” food.
