“A place to call home for a few days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We went there to see a concert and we fell in love with Alba and this sweet Albergo. We felt like we were staying with a family. That's the way we felt every day we get up in the morning and every time we came back to the "house". Rooms are small and the showers are very very smal but they are fine. Breakfast is delicious downstairs. In Alba everybody will know your name in a day or two. Service is excellent! Will considerate again for another visit.

Room Tip: All are very good, but ask for one if you can closer to the center or the patio so your wifi gets be...

My wife selected this small hotel with friendly, helpful service and great breakfasts (in the associated, street level pasticceria below). Francesca and Valentina were extremely helpful in suggesting local restaurants, sites to visit, arranging for a winery tour in the famous village of Barolo, and assisting with transportation for our several day trips to Torino, Asti and Barolo. They were also extremely important in expediting delivery of my wife's bag, lost in transit from Belgrade by Lufthansa Airlines, to the hotel the day after our arrival. The location is within easy walking distance of the historic sites, great restaurants, shops and piazzas of Alba Centro. Our room was spacious, bright, quiet and well cleaned each day - without question, should we be fortunate enough to again find ourselves in Alba, the Albergo San Lorenzo will be our hotel choice.

Room Tip: We had a quiet, first floor (above street floor) room on the side courtyard. There is a lift for ba...

Stayed here for 2 nights. Its right in the centre behind the main church and square. Walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and bars. Breakfast is simple but good, treats are produced in the cafe downstairs. Pastries are great. Room is simple but good. No english channels on tv. Bathroom really needs attention and thats why its not a 5*. Shower too small cant move in it and a big guy would not fit in. Staff are really nice and helpful.

From the minute we checked into the Albergo San Lorenzo in Alba, we felt as welcome as if we were staying with family--but in a fascinating medieval town with incredible food, exciting festivals just outside our door, and stunningly beautiful landscapes of vineyards and hilltop castles 5 minutes away by car. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, perfectly situated in a town that is walkable and with a multitude of sights and happenings within easy reach. The hotel staff worked very hard to make our stay comfortable and memorable, from alerting us to nearby events we might want to see to giving great directions to a coin laundry and an electronics store when my curling iron went kaput. The breakfast (included) at the pasticceria downstairs was in a bakery known throughout the area for its superb pastries and treated us to a variety of outstanding options that showcased the local hazelnuts. In addition, there were salumi, cheeses, boiled eggs, yogurt, and fruit. As we got to know the baristi, they were quick to remember our "usual" and generous with seconds if we wanted them. And not to be forgotten, there was secure parking for our rental car in their courtyard, a huge convenience in a town with limited parking and confusing rules. (Do other Americans have the same difficulty figuring out where it's OK to park in many Italian towns?) You can probably find more luxurious places to stay in Alba, but you won't find a better one than Albergo San Lorenzo.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are quieter.

Great little hotel right in the historic centre of Alba. Friendly knowledgeable staff who give expert recommendations on food (Osteria del'Arco if you can get in is fabulous for truffle pasta and Barolo veal and a superb wine list - our 2004 Barolo was to die for!)

Comfortable quiet rooms, a nice breakfast in a private area of the coffee shop downstairs with private hotel entrance, easy and free parking. What more could you want? Great base to explore the vineyards and hilltop villages of beautiful Piedmont!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed nice and quiet - 1 and 2 were great.

This modest Albergo is a block away from the Duomo and within walking distance of all the major shopping, sights and restaurants in Alba. They have on site parking which is a major plus. The young ladies who work the reception desk are lovely and extremely helpful in offering advice and suggestions for local restaurants. It is a small B&B with only a handful of rooms. The staff only works until about 8 or so at night. Then you are on your own with a key to get in when you return from dinner. The showers are small and the bed is hard. But the breakfast buffet in the cafe on the first floor is delicious, the air conditioning in our room worked well, and the small balcony in our room facing the square was a plus. As was the location. All in all, this Albergo worked for us.

The hotel is simple but nice. Advantage: it is right in the old town and it is connected to a cafeteria and pastry shop where breakfast is served, which is therefore really nice (Italian style - cappuccino and some pastry). Disadvantage: the central room of the first hotel floor is also used as "baby parking" and therefore on weekdays it is very noisy - I had no chance for an afternoon nap. And beware that the vicinity to the cathedral also means the church bells every full and half hour from 7 am...
