“threadbare but there”

I was so turned off in reading the recommendations of accommodations in Agrigento that I almost thought to by-pass this spendid site. Well, Villa Athena is rather threadbare but it is right THERE, right within sight of THE main attraction. For the first time, I made reservations with Expedia for the savings and I did anticipate being led to a dungeon; however, our room 105 had a straight-on view of the Concordia Temple and a lovely patio which, in another season, would have been quite lovely. LIsten, the rooms were rather threadbare but they are clean and of adequate size; in fact, the bathroom was larger than many and the AC worked. The property, on the whole, was surprisingly well maintained and the staff was courteous. Breakfast was a usual boring fare, but I am committed to yogurt and fruit, so I was not greatly disappointed. The diner restaurant was not a disaster but we certainly did not expect a memorable meal at the V. Athena.

“YUCK”

I too feel like everyone else- even the big room with the very beautiful view was not worth feeling like I was sleeping in a rat hotel.
It is really sad becuase they have the location, the view everything now they need put some money into making the rooms worth the stay.
I would not even let my dog sleep here.

“Very poor value for money”

This hotel has great views over the Valley of the Temples, and is easily accessible. But the staff were extremely rude, and the quality of room was poor for the price.

We were allocated a room with a terrace and view for E150 but the accomodation was very basic - two twin beds pushed together, with tired decorations and, to be honest, a strange smell.

The head waiter at dinner was very rude - had it not been late at night we would certainly have gone somewhere else. But the food, when it arrived, was very good (as it should have been: it is expensive by Sicilian standards).

We were made to feel very unwelcome. I have no doubt there are far better hotels close by in the Valley.

Well my review is just like the others; either people hated this place, or they felt the view and location were worth any shortcomings. I tipped the front desk guy 50 Euro for a "camera con vista" (room with a view) and got one of the huge rooms with a terrace overlooking the temple. In my opinion, worth every penny as we had a leisurely glass of wine and watched the sun set. The food and service weren't as bad as some reviews but they also weren't spectacular. And the next morning it was just a quick stroll to the temples (get there first thing and rush to Concord for some great photo ops w/noone else around).

“Over rated”

Hotel Villa Athena

One of the worst places I ever have encountered. Overpriced, over rated. Take away the view of the Valley of the Temples and Villa Athena would be a welfare hotel. The food was terrible, the staff was missing in action, the rooms were the size of the bed, the bathroom was 17th century. For the prices charged, at least the place could have provided an elevator. Stay away, or stay somewhere else.
