Our stay was for 5 nights in June 2006 (I don't know what has taken me so long to review this fabulous place!!) Baur B&B is incredibly beautiful, just as the pictures on the website show. It is located up a hill with an incredible view below and a beautiful terrace.

This is now our favorite place in Europe. It is run by Diana (an American), and Mischa(a German) Baur. This is a small B&B with only two rooms . We rented both rooms as there were four of us so we had the whole B&B to ourselves. The rooms are very large and beautifully decorated with local treasures and some of Diana’s own pottery. The bathrooms are large tiled bathrooms with all the amenities you would need including a real hair dryer (not those things stuck to the walls in many Italian hotels). There is a great pool and beautiful area around the pool with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. The terrace in front is where breakfast is served every morning (in the winter it is served inside).

Diana and Mischa are wonderful hosts. They have not missed a beat with incredible breakfasts, wonderful beds (the best we have slept on in Europe) and just a willingness to do anything required to make your stay enjoyable. They provided us with excellent dinner recommendations, as well as recommendations for our daytrips, always making sure we had good directions. One night Diana cooked dinner for us and we spent a wonderful evening dining on the terrace and enjoying wonderful conversation with our new friends.

We were travelling with our kids, ages 10 and 14, and Diana and Mishca always made them feel welcome and comfortable. Mischa always made sure our son knew when the next World Cup game was on, and Max their dog provided entertainment for the kids as well.

We wish we didn't live so far away as this would be the perfect place for a long weekend getaway - those Europeans are so lucky!!

All their restaurant recommendations were excellent but our favorite was Da Fausto.

    • Liked — The large rooms, excellent beds, delicious homecooked breakfasts, and most importantly the wonderful hosts.
    • Disliked — Absolutely nothing!!!
    • Tips/Secrets: — The PIedmont region is often overlooked in favor of Tuscany. We definitely preferred our stay in Piedmont as it was much less crowded and less touristy. With only two rooms at Baur B&B make your reservations early.

Words can not accurately describe our experience at Baur Bed and Breakfast.

We opted against spending our honeymoon in an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean or fighting the crowds of a major tourist stop. The town of Acqui Terme was filled with welcoming people, delicious restaurants, and very few tourists. We really felt immersed in Italian culture.

Although we fell in love with the area, it was our experience at the B and B that made our vacation. Diana and Micha are the standard by which other hosts should be measured. First off, the food they prepared: amazing. Fresh everything: fruits, meats, cheeses, breads.....prepared in Diana's beautiful kitchen and served poolside every morning.

Second, the room. Extrememly spacious, tastefully decorated, pristine....felt like home.

Third, the grounds...breathtaking view, gorgeous in-ground pool, the kind of place where an artist can go to find their inspiration.

Above all, the company was what made the trip so memorable. We had never stayed in a B and B so we were a little apprehensive. The moment we pulled in, it was clear that we made the right choice. From wine tastings to sharing silly stories by the pool, it felt as though we had known Diana and Micha longer than the few days we spent with them. They were so incredibily acommodating, but at the same time gave us our space to enjoy the experience on our own. Their B and B is a labor of love and it is evident how passionate they are about making sure their guests have the time of their life.

We are already planning our return. Do yourself a favor: avoid the crowds and the hassle of a major city or "standard" vacation destination and contact Diana and Micha instead. The best food, wine, and company you've ever experienced should be more than enough to convince you.

If you are looking not to simply visit Italy, but to experience the authenticity of Italian culture, food, and wine, you would do well to consider the Piemonte region - and even more specifically, the Baur Bed and Breakfast.

My professional life requires quick thinking, decisions made to balance the interets of many, and the ability to manage the personalities of a large staff. I needed my vacation to be none of these - to simply be a time of rest, of relaxation, and of rejuvenation. I found all of these with Diana and Micha, innkeepers of the Baur B and B.

We arrived in Acqui Terme on a sunny and hot day, somewhat weary from our travels, but excited nonetheless. We turned into the driveway and made our way up the steep hill, not exactly certain what we would find. I can tell you without reservation that we found a little piece of heaven on a quiet hill in Italy. We were warmly greeted by Diana and Micha, and found ourselves laughing at the antics of their yellow lab puppy, Max. Diana showed us to our rooms, and we settled in for just a bit before going downstairs for a swim. As the sun dipped behind the mountains, Diana served complimentary bread, cheese, and wine poolside (their house wine, included in our room rate, was wonderful). I could feel the tension and sore muscles easing their way into oblivion.

The feelings of contentment we found on this first day were replicated each and every day that we were there. Diana and Micha are wonderful hosts, and their knowledge of the region (especially the vineyards!) was especially helpful as we planned our adventures each day. Micha turned out to be an invaluable resource for identifying the wines of the region and arranging for tastings at the ones that caught our interest (we even hired him to drive us one day and to interpret at the one winery where only Italian was spoken).

Although we did not know it when we booked our reservation, Diana is an accomplished potter and has a studio on the premises where she gives lessons on the pottery wheel. Her work is beautiful, and the lesson I took from her was quite relaxing - and great fun!

While they are many things to be said for the "Big 3" of Rome, Venice, and Florence, we found our big three in the likes of Diana, Micha, and Max on their little hill Acqui Terme.

Stayed 4 days at Baur B&B. Had wonderful time. Hosts, Dianna and Micheal, really make you fell welcome and are interesting and fun people to be around, The setting is lovely - out in country with great view and sounds, yet not far into town. Rooms were very comfortable, great bed, wine, coffee and soft drinks available in room, if you like. Fresh flowers in room. Dianna made us a superb lunch when we arrived and breakfast each morning. Best food, I had on vacation. I can't wait to return !

Just returned from an unforgettable stay at this B&B. Your time with owners Diana (an American) and Michael (a German) will rank as one of your top vacation memories. Beautifully decorated rooms, lots of extras included (wine!), unbelievably delicious breakfast/food grown or produced on neighboring farms, gorgeous views of surrounding hills. They are experts on the region and will help plan your daytrips to the surrounding Piemonte wine villages. Also familiar with fantastic local restaurants and will make recommendations and reservations for you. Relax and kick back by the pool or make it a base to tour the rolling countryside -- either way you will love it here.
