Definitely not a 5* hotel - maybe 3* ..but maybe. You will find in Greece a lot of beautiful hotels and sites. Avoid Alexandros Palace as much as you can.

This town is full of hotels. This is probably one of the worst. Front desk staff are overworked and as a result, not effective. Upon arrival we mentioned our room was too hot 24C, and needed someone to check the air conditioning. Despite checking daily, we left 3 days later - room 24C. The porter just plain doesn't want to do his job. The shower stall in our room was so small and I am a small woman - don't know how a man could cope. The doors on the stall didn't close tightly either. Also intriguing was the duct tape at the external base of the shower stall - to cover rust??? The bathroom itself was a fair size with the bidet area taking up more space than the shower. We were on the street side and as we needed to leave our window open (hot room), the nights were very noisy. Others facing inward said it was very quiet. The food was absolutely horrible. Standard good choice for breakfast but coffee from a machine and no way of getting anyone's attention when the platters were empty. Dinner was another matter - rubbery chicken, canned peas. Definitely need a consultant to review food service. The room was the so often seen, austere decor with only one chair. The pool was closed when we returned from our touring day. If you can, book somewhere else.

This is a hotel I wouldn't recommend if you're planning to pay for full board /breakfast, lunch and dinner). It is poor. It's tasteless. It looks depressing. To think that Itlay is a food country.... then this hotel stands out due to its awful food! I have eaten so much better in Italy of course!

On the good side: very nice reception staff who speak English fluently, helpful and nice. The rooms were small but nice too. Cleaning was almost perfect.
The pools were nice but the gym is a bit crappy

Actually it's fine if you're not eating there - then it's disaster...

I stayed 3 nights at the hotel with my husband, 2 daughters and 2 grandsons while attending a conference. We occupied 3 twin en suite rooms.

The hotel is centrally located and the rooms, which I would have classified more accurately as 2 - 3* were very clean with comfortable beds. I would have expected a 4* hotel to have had 2 comfortable chairs in a twin room but there was one hard chair, a desk, 2 bedside tables, a wardrobe and the beds.

The bathrooms are small but there was ample hot water and the shower had excellent pressure. There was a good supply of toileteries and fresh towels.

The restaurant is lavishly decorated but was let down by the quality and presentation of the food. This is a conference hotel and should be capable of catering appropriately for the numbers that its facility can accommodate, otherwise it should not take on the task.

  • Liked — Comfortable beds, clean room, attractive decor in public areas
  • Disliked — The food! Also the lifts would be inadequate at peak times for disabled guests

We enjoyed our stay at the Alexander Palace in Abano Terme. It's a modern, well appointed hotel. Large lobby. We saw a lot of tour groups staying here, plus our own. It's quite a large hotel and given the amount of rooms, the elevators can be slow around supper and breakfast time. We ended up taking the stairs most of the time.

Rooms: Classic/Elegant decor. Thermostat worked appropriately. Clean. The bathroom was average, the shower stall was a little small.

Location: As Abano Terme isn't that big, the hotel was centrally located and easy to find. We didn't think much about the town and we are a younger couple. Most of the people we saw were older and there for the spas. We didn't think the town had much of a night life. We were based here for sightseeing in Venice as part of a group.

Lobby: For some reason the bar area was closed in Aug. while we were there. It would have been nice to have a drink at the bar with guests we were travelling with.

Restaurant: Quite a large and fancy looking place with painted walls. Very nice. The service was quite fast and good. The standard tourist menu for the tour groups wasn't the best. There were quite a few comments from people on our tour that they didn't get enough to eat and that it wasn't the best.

Breakfast was a gong show. Way too many people for a buffet table. They ran out of almost everything. The machine coffee and juice left much to be desired for.

Pool: Although it looked like they had a nice pool. It opened late in the morning and closed around 6 pm!!! If you are touring around or obligated with a tour group that means you won't be swimming in the evening. TIP: next door you can access a public pool complex for about 11 Eur. Remember that everybody must wear a swimming cap, it's the rule for some reason.

All in all, it was a clean and comfortable place but I wish there was a little more happening in the town. The restaurant could have offered a little more in terms of the quality of food.

  • Liked — Clean.
  • Disliked — The town, the restaurant, the lack of a lobby bar, pool closed early, opended late.
