“Unique Hotel with Spectacular Ocean Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Interesting hotel with beautiful ocean views, lots of character and gracious hosts. Alberto was a sea captain and his personality shines through in all the decorating and artifacts throughout the restaurant, hotel and art gallery on premises. His wife Yolanda was also very helpful, planning several day trips for us. Staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant, and never lost patience as we struggled with our rudimentary Spanish. Coffee (with leche) was memorable, food was good overall. A wedding was scheduled there on the day we left, and the flowers, lighting and decorations made for a magical appearance. Our room was a disappointment, primarily for the lack of privacy (walls were paper thin, conversations in next room were as though they were in the same room), plus the "suicide shower" was a scary event. Not only were there electric wires coming from the shower head, but the junction box just outside the shower had no cover and revealed pigtailed wires in the box. Yikes! I've learned that this is pretty common in Ecuador, but it takes some getting used to. After figuring out the intracacies of getting the right pressure and temperature, we were fine, although one evening the lights dimmed briefly and a spark came from the shower head. Swimming pool was very nice, infinity style with a view out over the Pacific.

Room Tip: Room in lighthouse tower is tiny but interesting and very private, accessible from a steep flight of...

We were driving from Manta to Ballenitas on Ecuadorian "Ruta del Sol". The hotel is located on a cliff with incredible views of the Pacific. The restaurant is very interesting, almost like dinning inside a museum. A huge collection of items from ships and shipwrecks. The food is delicious and well served. The staff very nice.
"La Cueva" was our bedroom, a very neat room with a lot of privacy and great views.
The small pool is an endless pool and there is a museum attached to the hotel with marine items for sale.
Even if one stays at other hotels, the restaurant is worth to visit.
This was my favorite place in the Ecuadorian Coast.

Room Tip: La Cueva. Ask for it if you don't mind to go up and down on a "snail" staircase; the r...

We so very much enjoyed our stay here. Yolanda and Alberto, the owners, and their amazing staff made the visit a joy. Our private cabin had the most amazing view and our own little hummingbird to share our balcony. The property is amazing with the maritime historical decorations anywhere one looks. P.S. - Yolanda is a great tennis player!

Room Tip: If you love the roar of the ocean and the feel of the sea, ask for Kairos. Not for those faintheart...

Fabulous location, high on a cliff overlooking the ocean, with stairs down to the beach. Breeze is enough to keep you from cooking. We had a fabulous room that hangs on the hillside and feels like being in the captains quarters on a schooner, with windows all the way across, the screened windows open to the sounds of crashing waves. I loved it! We didn't see any of the other rooms, but from what other guests said, they are decorated with the same attention to decor and detail.
The dining room is filled with an enviable maritime collection. The food is pretty good; we ate our meals outside in the covered deck. The staff is very nice. The hosts are gracious and very helpful, making us feel like honored guests. What a great spot!

The setting is truly spectacular! What a view of the ocean and beach! The balcony in the dining area makes you wish the meal could go on for ever. The Farallon Dillon is truly unique and special. Decorated with Alberto's treasures from around the world, collected while he was a sea captain. Probably most special are the hosts; Yolanda and Alberto. Very service oriented and fun to spend time with. Our room was truly unique with again a breath taking view. Don't miss this one!

We stayed at the Farallon Dillon a total of 6 nights and enjoyed it very much! First off, who wouldnt love staying at an old lighthouse! Set on a cliff with the ocean below, the view was spectacular! The whole place is like a maritime museum. The food was wonderful and the staff was veryhelpful and super nice. Everyday the owners would personally ask us how we were, if we needed anything, had any problems. This is why we love Ecuador and its people so much!

I went with my family to spend last Christmas in this beautiful place, and it was fabulous! My kids where in the swimming pool, the beach, running around the gardens, climbing the tree house, while my husband and I were having a nice and cold beer or a delightful ceviche(a seefood cocktail). I recomend to families or romantics gate aways. The hosts, Yolanda and husban, the captain Dillon are so charming, they made us feel like if we were old friends and we became good friends. We still in contact with them. I wish them the best!

Room Tip: If you are adventurers choose the light house, amazing views and peacefull, specially for young cupp...
