Interesting hotel with beautiful ocean views, lots of character and gracious hosts. Alberto was a sea captain and his personality shines through in all the decorating and artifacts throughout the restaurant, hotel and art gallery on premises. His wife Yolanda was also very helpful, planning several day trips for us. Staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant, and never lost patience as we struggled with our rudimentary Spanish. Coffee (with leche) was memorable, food was good overall. A wedding was scheduled there on the day we left, and the flowers, lighting and decorations made for a magical appearance. Our room was a disappointment, primarily for the lack of privacy (walls were paper thin, conversations in next room were as though they were in the same room), plus the "suicide shower" was a scary event. Not only were there electric wires coming from the shower head, but the junction box just outside the shower had no cover and revealed pigtailed wires in the box. Yikes! I've learned that this is pretty common in Ecuador, but it takes some getting used to. After figuring out the intracacies of getting the right pressure and temperature, we were fine, although one evening the lights dimmed briefly and a spark came from the shower head. Swimming pool was very nice, infinity style with a view out over the Pacific.
