“Amazing Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

We booked a room for 4 and we get to the room and it was pretty small. That is the only bad thing about this vacation and it didn't even matter because we spent most of our time on the amazing beach. An amazing experience and would highly recommend this vacation to anyone.

Location - Relatively short drive from Dubrovnik - about 15 minutes - beautiful landscape, gorgeous sea views. Stunning, postcard-perfect location.

Rooms - We were in a two-bedroom residence, which was extremely clean, modern, comfortable, spacious and well laid out. It was almost perfect. Loved having a kitchenette, which was very convenient. Only gripe is there was no coffee maker so had to drink instant throughout our stay. One other disappointment is the balcony / terrace, which only offered a partial sea view (despite our request for a sea view room). As a result, we only used the terrace for drying our bathing suits instead of sitting out there to relax with a drink. However, there ARE some residences offering unobstructed sea views. We were just not lucky enough to get one.

Service - very good. A couple of the servers at the bars / restaurants could have been a bit more friendly, but overall very professional.

Facilities - Excellent. Everything you could think of, including a rock climbing wall. Beautiful pools, kids club etc. There's even a fairly well-stocked mini supermarket on site, which is very convenient. Beach was disappointing for us as it's a rock beach that drops straight into the sea so not good for children at all. Free wi-fi throughout resort, including around pool area, was a fantastic bonus.

Restaurants - A bit overpriced. La Pasta made good pizzas and pasta at reasonable prices but Cilantro was very expensive although the seafood was fresh and perfectly prepared. Sunset Bar was average food at above average prices. But given the setting and the five-star hotel location, I guess this is to be expected.

Spa - treatments were outrageously expensive so we did not partake in any.

Overall, we had a fabulous holiday at the Radisson Blu and would happily return.

Room Tip: When booking sea view room, make sure you get an UNOBSTRUCTED sea view!

Starting with the positives, my family and i had a fabulous time at this Radisson resort.
Our 2 bedroom appartment was fantastic, 2 very good sized bedrooms upstairs with a family bathroom and downstairs, another bathroom with huge shower, a small kitchen, dining area and lounge area. Everything was clean and fresh and decor was great with good wifi throughout the appt.
This wasn't a seaview appartment so no sea view but we had an outdoor terrace, (shared) where there was a table and chairs to sit on and see the sea.

The views from the hotel are stunning and hats off to the designers as wherever you are in the resort, including the 4 pools, Spa and the majority of bars and restuarants, all have sea view. One of my favourite things is having breakfast outdoors watching boats go by in the sea.

The resort was spotlessly clean and i couldn't fault any of the facilities on offer. Sunbeds are pretty much always available if you arent too bothered where you sit and the although the beach is pebbly, it offers a nice breeze by the sea with a slow incline to paddle in.

The small on-site marina has watersports on offer and there is also a boat shuttle to the old town which was a pleasant experience.
As an indication, taxis cost 200 Kunas each way and take approx 15 mins.

I found the majority of the staff to be very friendly and helpful with a few exceptions around the poolside bars.

So why not excellent? This is down to two issues.
1. Price of drinks:
Although i questioned their pricing strategy, nobody could explain how a small plastic bottle of water by the pool was 35 Kunas (approx £3.50), yet in the restarant, a large bottle of water is only 30 Kunas (approx £3.00). Compare this with a coke etc and the coke is cheaper. Even more bizarre, an iced coffee is only 25 Kunas. Additionslly, walk to the on-site supermarket which is very well stocked, the price of the same water is 6 kunas (60p). I understand the need to mark up prices but from all my previous holiday experiences, they are way over the top.
In terms of other prices, smoothies/milkshakes are around the 45 kunas and beer is only 35 kunas, glass of wine approx 55 kunas, expected prices for a 5 star hotel.
2. Quality of food:
For a 5 star hotel that is charging 5 star prices, i would expect 5 star food but this hotel fell short of delivering this.
Excluding breakfast where there was plenty of good food available, although the lady cooking omlettes may need to be re-trained, the resturants that we went to dinner at were fairly average. The steak restaurant (Butchers grill) was the best of the lot but for the 4 of us, the meal containing 3 rib-eyes, 2 glasses of wine came to approx £160. For me, at this price, i am expecting amazing food but unfortunatley, this is not the case.
The worst meal by far was at the Sunset pool Monday night BBQ. For a fixed price of 250 Kunas, there is a small buffet to queue up at and then choose from some bowls of salad and the meat section which included lamb sausages, beefsteak, veal and fish. From the 7 of us dining we all found the veal to be inedible, the lamb sauages were awful and the steaks were raw. I did complain at the time and the manager kindly went to another of the on-site restuarants to bring a plate of chicken breasts but for £25 per head, i expected better quality.
The Italian restuarant was ok and the hotel buffet restuarant was also ok with plenty of choice but again, be prepared to pay 5 star prices.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom residences which were fabulous - the same high standard as the hotel rooms but with the extra space and flexibility. Would have been perfect had we had the children with us too. Beautiful sea views and over the very well landscaped resort. Just a short and fun boat ride to Dubrovnik (best to book the night before from the hotel) but largely once at the resort there isn't too much close by for restaurant alternatives. Those on site are reasonable but nothing amazing. The little food shop on site was handy though and the others offer somewhere to meander. We also hired a car which was good value, to be able to visit Mostar for the day - fascinating and definitely worth a trip. Handy to have added sports facilities on site and the tennis courts are well looked after and the local coach was brilliant.

Radisson blue is a big resort right on the coast and a short taxi ride away from Dubrovnik. The grounds and gardens are beautiful with three large pools and a private beach. The room lay-out is extremely generous and well thought through with vibrant colors and great design. We tried three restaurants, which were all great (the Croatian being our favorite). The spa is top notch. This is a resort that people who usually do not like big resorts will enjoy as well: The service, design and attention to detail are all fantastic and it feels several cuts above the rest. There is a generosity about the place that lets you truly relax and you never feel you are on top of each other.

We recently stayed in a 1 bed apartment which was easily big enough for 2 adults and our 12 year old. Didn't request a sea view but did get a nice partial sea view. The hotel/apartments have a quality feel about them. Clean and tidy with a modern feel.
I think they do warrant their 5 star rating as it is clean, staff are great and it generally feels like a quality place to stay. Seemed very quiet at night, which is good if you want a relaxing time. The restaurants were quiet and I put this down to being, in my opinion, quite expensive. I'm sure that the management are keeping an eye on the cost of eating out as a lot of guests were of the same opinion.
We didn't take up the opportunity to try out any of the beach activities i.e. speedboats, jet skis etc. I think I would have been a bit 'miffed' by the prices so I just didn't bother asking to avoid being put out. On the other hand we went to play badminton at their sports hall and it was totally free ! Wasn't expecting that.

All in all a good, modern and clean hotel with great staff, good choice of swimming pools and lots of general seating/sunbathing/relaxing areas.

I would recommend this hotel and Croatia to others
