“Dingle Peninsula, Ireland 2004”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

Traveling off-season through Ireland often afforded me the advantage of tranquil solitude. I looked about many times to find myself surrounded by herds of sheep and ne'er a person in sight. The Slea Head of Dingle Peninsula is a place of rustic beauty with steep cliffs and rocks every where . I took this picture after driving down a treacherous little road to the beach. The rain that day just added to the mystery and beauty that is Ireland.

“In my opinion, better than the Cliffs of Moher”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

We weren't quite sure if we were going to make the drive or not before we headed out for Galway, but we talked to a local and she kept raving about it.. She said it was more impressive than the Cliffs of Moher. I didn't really think anything of it, since she was a local, she was probably partial. After all, we decided to. It was absolutely beautiful. You have to be prepared for the VERY narrow roads and the gigantic buses they they come at you head on. You feel like you might get pushed off the cliffs, but you'll be fine. We only drove through the first third of it because we had to be on our way, but boy was it beautiful. We visited the Cliffs of Moher a few days later, after we saw them we thought the same thing, Slea Head Drive was much more impressive.

“Great Drive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We opted to skip the Ring of Kerry according to Rick Steves. This drive was windy and narrow like most Irish rural roads... The views were worth the heart attack when you're coming head on with a bus around a blind corner. 47 km drive total but took us almost 3 hours with all the stops, pictures, bathroom breaks, walks, etc... If you like big views, don't skip out on O'Connor's pass just up spa road for about 10 minutes. Both Slea Head Drive/O'Connor's Pass are Highly recommended.

“Ring of Kerry? Sure, But Be sure To Drive Slea Head!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

We had stopped at Dingle late one morning and while chatting with a couple of locals over coffee (@ the Wren's Nest in the gardn area out back) we were recommended by them to take advantage of the clear skies and drive Slea Head - what a gem of advice that was! We were rewarded with amazing views over the Atlantic, accessed via a narrow/winding road (aren't they all???) with loads of pull-offs where we could park our vehicle and gaze out over the harsh farming enviroment, dotted with roadside ruins/old structures, darling little settlements, pockets of sandy beaches, steep drop-offs, the occasional coffee stop, all overseen by unconcerned cattle and sheep, but overall a much-less-travelled route than "the Ring" that provides jaw-dropping scenery that demands you to stop and admire. You gotta do it!

“Awesome drive and scenery - better than Ring of Kerry!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

There is so much to see here and the scenery is absolutely amazing. If you are in the area of the Dingle Peninsula, you will not want to miss this drive. Seriously - if you have a choice between the Ring of Kerry and the Slea Head Drive, this is the one to do. We did both and the Ring of Kerry just did not compare. This drive has more amazing views and more to see. Take your time and enjoy the drive - be sure to stop along the route to see the sites. You won't regret it!
