We went for the art and architecture, and it is indeed impressive. If you've been to Storm King, north of NYC, this is reminiscent (though there are fewer works here and the level isn't as high, IMHO.) Kind of a work in progress--the owner/s continue to add works, structures, and to improve the landscaping. But there's plenty to see right now: the 3 Tadao Ando buildings (one is the reception center/restaurant) are extraordinary, "worth the detour," as they say--from anywhere.
Other standouts for me were the Jean Nouvel wine processing buildings, a Sean Scully sculpture, and an Andy Goldsworthy underground Oak Room.
We found all staff to be attentive and helpful. There is a small but comprehensive bookstore with monographs on all the artists represented on site and plenty of others as well; the restaurant/cafe; a shop offering olive oil tastings and products for sale. The setting is beautiful, offering handsome vistas from many points along the art-sculpture trails.
