“Can't wait to go again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

Super stay with just my wife. We had a room that had access into the Lagoon. We didn't use the access as the water was rather cold. Need to go again when the water is warmer. That apart we had a great two nights.
Food was good. We eat at the beach restaurant twice and the Al Kiran Terrace. The Buffet was good too. Lovely and warm staff.
Bit disappointed there was no tennis coach at the weekend. Spa not available at present.
Nothing above really detracts from what is a truely lovely and relaxing hotel

Room Tip: Get a Lagoon Room!

We were recommended by a friend, and we were really pleased the hotel is located quite far from everything with a full Arabic atmosphere.Very good service. Clean and large room .Three restaurants quite expensive but good food, Pool and beach nice and very well maintained.
We will return with pleasure.

Three of us (including our teenage daughter) stayed in a sea-facing room and, despite our having a lot of luggage, there was plenty of space. The room was well decorated and equipped and the view was lovely. The hotel's grounds and facilities are excellent and the service we received was excellent too. The only shortcoming was the bar, which has little atmosphere and where service was disappointing; after visiting it once, we didn't return. But this didn't spoil our stay in the hotel, which we strongly recommend.

Room Tip: Sea-facing rooms (although more expensive) are recommended.

We stayed in the Al-Bustan for two weeks in January and booked via Trailfinders. It was our first visit to Oman and the Al-Bustan and we had a wonderful and relaxing time.
On arrival at the hotel, we were offered an upgraded room, which was a well-appointed garden view room. There was a minor issue with the room but it was quickly and efficiently resolved to our satisfaction as soon as we made the hotel aware of it. That was the only issue we had with the hotel during our stay.
The hotel is elegant with an impressive lobby where tea is served and at certain times of the day the sunlight shines through the windows to touch the chandeliers and cast rainbows on the walls and floor, which all adds to the charm.
We had booked on a half board basis and were allocated the Al-Khiran Terrace Restaurant which had a buffet-style menu but could also provide a la carte. Each evening was themed and even though we stayed for more than a week, we were never bored with the food. The quality was excellent, varied and well executed and the service was impeccable; efficient but never officious. One night we made a special request for crab curry and Chef Naleem Ibrahim and Sous chef Mathew Fernandez, gladly obliged and created a delicious meal for the following evening, made just as desired and in generous portions.
Breakfast was also a buffet and again the food was varied and special orders were also catered for with a few cooked-to-order stations, for omelettes, crepes and waffles. Sitting on the restaurant terrace is recommended as it offers wonderful views of the sea framed by the long and inviting palm tree fringed infinity pool and the lush gardens.
Uroy Williams Manager of the numerous restaurant staff did his job well and took the time to greet guests individually. When on trips with early starts, we both dashed into the restaurant for a quick breakfast but also spent a few mornings having languorous and restful breakfasts to start the day slowly. We frequently dined late and were never rushed.
The grounds and beach are lovely for sun-bathing by day and for strolls and a spot of star-gazing by night. If snorkelling is your thing, then you have easy access for this too.
During our stay the reception staff were extremely helpful and courteous and were happy to assist with local etiquette, giving directions, recommendations for trips, logistics and even in assisting us to buy last minute gifts, via room service.
As other reviews have stated the hotel is outside of Muscat itself and the options for exploring Muscat itself are to take a taxi, hire a car, or take advantage of the free hotel shuttle bus that takes guests to either the old town or one of the souks each evening. This was not a problem for us due to our holiday needs. One thing that surprised us was how wide the city of Muscat is; so no matter where you stay in the city you will have to travel a reasonable distance to explore other areas of it.
Muscat is a pretty garden city and welcoming to tourists, Al- Bustan complements this perfectly and if we come back to Oman, we will stay there again.

Room Tip: Garden view is prettier than mountain view if you are on lower floors

This hotel, in our opinion, deserves it high Tripadvisor rating. We have never stayed in an hotel before where every staff member (bar one!) greets you with a smile. The service is seamless and the restaurant managers come round and talk to their guests. One thing that was noticable was that the managers were not afraid to clear tables and made a point of interacting with all of their staff colleagues.
We found the food to be of a very high standard, and we especially enjoyed the Italian theme evening buffet. The beach restaurant had a choice of vegetarian meals, which in our opinion was better than the main restaurant for veggie choice.
The shuttle bus was a good idea, but if you go would suggest you give the "Old Town" a miss, nothing of any interest there. The souk was fun and you get hassle but the vendors usually target the visitors from the cruise ships anchored nearby.
Beach, pools were all excellent, as was the service. A nice touch was that when the staff set up your sun lounger with towels they also bring you a cool box with bottled water, which you can get replenished as often as you like. The grounds are quite extensive and there is plenty of room to just lounge around and relax.
One observation. Why is it when you leave an Earl Grey tea bag in your saucer that the person who services the room replenishes it with another type of tea. Petty I know, but it is puzzling. If you see we drink Earl Grey (or whatever), why not replenish it with the same?
Overall, a great place to stay and relax, and again such wonderful staff (bar one!)

From the front desk onward everyone in this hotel is eager to please and incredibly helpful. We used the hotel at either end of a trip to the mountains so saw two rooms, both were excellently appointed. The grounds and beach area are fantastic and the food in all the restaurants could not be faulted.

Room Tip: Sea views are best

The moment you enter the magnificent lobby of this hotel you realise that it is definitely a Grand Hotel. Perfectly situated near the old town, on its own long private beach among extensive and beautifully maintained gardens, with a large pool area, it is a wonderfully comfortable place to stay in Muscat, which in itself is a delight, once you have left the commercial area near the airport, with colourful flower beds lining the roads and on the roundabouts all the way in to the old town and up to the entrance of the Al Bustan. There is a selection of restaurants, all good, and a pleasant bar. The service was excellent in all the venues and throughout the hotel as one would expect. We were lucky to be upgraded to an executive suite with a magnificent view of sea and mountains, it was well furnished and very comfortable. For those who like traditional grand hotels this is definitely the place to stay. The concierge was very good arranging trips out. We went on a tour of Muscat, you must see the Grand Mosque, and a trip out to Nizwa and the green mountain, which gave us a good impression of the mountainous country which comprises most of Muscat.
On an additional note if you can manage what we did, three days in the Al Maha in Dubai, three days in Zighy Bay and four days in the Al Bustan you will have had the short break of a lifetime ! You will need to save up first but it will be worth every penny.
