“Convenience at the Beach Bay Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

Made a last minute booking online via Trip Advisor after looking for affordable by the beach accommodation in Muscat. This was it.

After a lengthy delay at the airport our arrival time was after midnight but Reception staff were there to help.

Helped out with room service at 1 am and our king bed (adjoining beds) was comfy and welcoming.

Room amenities include TV, bath towels, hair dryer, general toiletries, desk, 2 x chairs & small table, kettle, bar fridge with several items available - not many but appropriate. No alcohol as it's a dry hotel like most in the Middle East.

Our particular room would not have suited an elderly person or less-abled person. Unfortunately the toilet was placed immediately against the shower access which was high-sided. As a tall woman even I had difficulty hiking my leg up and over and not falling over getting out. Not all rooms have the same layout, but this would definitely hinder some.

Location was excellent. About 400metres from the beach front and a couple of cafés as well as the Grand Hyatt next door for those looking for a bar or other restaurants.

Hiring a car with GPS is a must in Muscat but this hotel is central for many tourist destinations, and being in a quiet area was good for relaxing.

The beach front has a walkway leading you in both directions for night time strolls. It's a popular spot at sunset for swimming, soccer & BBQs.

Parking is available at front of hotel.

Wifi is free and works well, multiple users at any time which was brilliant & handy.

Breakfast is complimentary. It has a small continental selection, it's no Hilton - but fine for breakfast. Over-eating in the heat doesn't help anyone anyway!

Considering the cost of accommodation in the Middle East & Muscat particularly we were pleased with our choice. Tourist taxes are rarely mentioned about accommodation costs and are charged daily the same as anywhere else in the Middle East.

I wouldn't say it was a family destination, with no pool or entertainment facilities within. But perfect for business travellers or couples.

Overall clean and friendly and inexpensive and I would visit again.

I had a Great stay, nice, accommodating staff, and a very accessible place; can easily catch a taxi, can just walk to a nearest convenience store. The place is near to the beach so you can just walk around or jog in the afternoon.

We stayed at the Beach Bay Hotel for 4 nights. On our arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady. We arrived before the check in time but it was not a problem. We were allowed to go straight up to our room. We were on the top floor facing The Hyatt Hotel. room was very quiet, spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
Plenty of tea & coffee, bottled water and soft drinks in the fridge. Toiletries in the bathroom were plentiful. Breakfast was buffet style which you could eat in or outside. Plenty of food and wide selection of hot & cold, different each day.
We were told that we could use The Hyatt Hotel facilities, but my husband & I walked through the hotel 1 evening & decided it wasn't for us! We much preferred the friendly atmosphere of The Beach Bay. So handy for the beach, just a few minutes walk, a very nice cafe on the beach The Candle cafe, again very friendly people.
Can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: Some rooms face onto building next door, would particularly bother us as we don't usually spend...

I stayed in the Beach Bay hotel for a recent business trip in Oman.

Due to the timing of my meeting I was only in the country for under 24 hours, but Beach Bay Hotel were more than accommodating of my 05:30 check-in and subsquent 02:30 check-out, which was dealt with a humourous was by the friendly staff.

The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and with free wi-fi, excellent for business use with a large desk for easy working.

Were I a tourist I would still recommend this hotel due to its quiet location, but also proximity to Grand Hyatt with its facilities, including a bar if you need one.

For a short or longer break, who can argue with friendly staff, large comfortable rooms, breakfast, good location and great value? Fully reccommend!

Stayed here for 3 days on a short break from Dubai. Overall, pleasant experience. Get your expectations right from the beginning and you won't be disappointed. It is a small independent hotel, it's nothing fancy or glittery so if you want that, don't stay here. It's hard to find budget accommodation in Muscat, and hard to believe that you pay as much to stay here as at a hotel in NYC, but that's the way it seems to be in Muscat.

Staff are welcoming and friendly. Didn't interact with them too much except for check-in and check-out but both experiences were fine. Room was large and spacious with a nice view. Bed was comfortable but pillows were so firm I woke up with a sore neck the second morning. We stayed on the third floor and had a view of the Grand Hyatt and the sea. Bathroom was also large, clean, and well appointed. Towels were large and fairly fluffy. Everything seemed clean and relatively new, but there was a bit of a funky smell in the room. It diminished when we turned up the A/C and after our room was cleaned but it returned the second evening. It's an older hotel and it is by the sea so it's probably from that. Unpleasant but not unbearable.

Located in a beautiful area on the beach and among the embassies. There's a nautical theme to the hotel. Model ships, anchors, wheels, etc decorate the lobby and staircases. WiFi is free and reasonably fast. It's a dry hotel so we went to the Hyatt for drinks one evening, the Intercon for dinner and drinks another, and Mumtaz Mahal for a fantastic dinner. The Intercon is about a mile away and such a pleasant walk in the evening.

Breakfast in the hotel was less than impressive, although the fresh fruit selection was fantastic. Eggs weren't great and the 'sausages' were just hot dogs. Not much of a cereal selection (only cornflakes) but there was toast with peanut butter, nutella, butter, and jam options.
We had our car, so it was easy for us to take day trips and get around, although there seemed to be a large number of taxis passing on the main street. Taxis are expensive here, so it was a cost saver for us anyway. Look into renting a car if you're going to be here for a long time.

Taxes are also shockingly high, like 17% on the hotel room, but also on all the meals we had and drinks. It really adds on to the price of everything- nothing the hotel could do about that but just be aware.

Used to be called the Coral Hotel, not sure how recently the name has been changed, considering the WiFi network is still Coral Hotel. Other reviews for this hotel are listed under Coral Hotel. Overall a pleasant and reasonable stay in Muscat.

Service was excellent. We were there for a week late February 2013.
No alcohol in the hotel but remember it is a muslim country. Very good for my health to be without alcohol for a week.
Breakfasts were excellent. it was diversified because it was not the same menu each day.
The beach is formidable because we could walk either way for more than a mile. Again it is a muslim country. We should respect their customs. So swimming is possible but you might feel alone...
The scenery is just wonderful. My first visit in a Muslim country but not my last one.
People are very respectful and very friendly. My wife was able to walk alone during my conference and the people were very friendly with her.
I would recommend any time this hotel. It is a bit humid in the room but the hotel is very close to the ocean. So it is just normal.
The ratio quality/price was one of the best I've ever seen.
Take the time to visit old Muscat. Take the time to read their rich history. This country was very poor before 1970. The Government and/or the Sultan built a lot of practical and modern infrastructures for their citizens. You need a visa to visit the country but you could have one at the airport very easily. We visited Nizwa and the "grand canyon". yes they have a grand canyon. Quite impressive. Jean-Claude and Josée from Canada
