“Anothern Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Locals we talked with have never visited their own museums! This little museum near the waterfront was great. Cheap admission, air conditioned and excellent modern displays. Great way to learn about the past in Oman. We have had every museum we have visited to ourselves. It is a small museum, worth an hour visit.

“A trip down Omani histroy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Not much of a museum fan, but Bait Al Barandah was a great experience. The 2 hours my family and I spent there seemed to go real fast.

It is very child-friendly with the Pre-historic Era room showcasing dinosaurs - with audio, to boot! - and colourful sculptures of the Oryx.

Must visit for Geology students and amateur buffs - interactive explanations of geographical feature formations.

First floor was a mine of information on the history of Oman. Showcasing of relics found at Wattayah, a 'talking' History book, a room filled with maps of Oman through the ages along with replicas of important historical documents dating back to the 6th and 7th century AD, an audio-visual of more recent Omani history, and finally two rooms filled with modern day Omani products, musical instruments, dresses, etc. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Finished our visit with a trip to the in-house restaurant, Crepes. We had the omelettes and the milk shakes. Good, healthy and very delicious.

“History Insights”

A large museum covering Oman history. Helped me get a better understanding of the cultural history of the country. Loved the falaj and small house. Great gift shop also!

“Explore Muttrah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Start your visit to Muscat & Capital Area at Matrah (Mutrah, Muttrah ...) visiting the Bait Al Baranda Museum, the fish market, a stroll along the Corniche, visit the old souq, and relax with a refresher at the juice bar. Bait Al Baranda is located in a traditional building, with overview of the region's geology, history, and treasures and pleasures for the eyes. You can be in and out in 45 minutes, and during your stay in Oman the things you saw and learned will keep coming back to you.

“Brilliant, must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

This is just at the doorstep of Mutrah. I would say this place is must to see it will give you a real glimpse of Oman history getting back to the very beginning. You will find very interesting information about geology e.g explanation of sink holes existence. The museum is not very big, rather cozy but I would say must to see especially if you don't go to Nizwa or other places in Oman. Also at the entrance of the museum is 'the crepe cafe' I suggest to have a coffee there for strong coffee loves as Omani coffee in not my type realy.
