“Disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Walking into the Chedi you know you are in for something special! The interiors are superb and the hotel grounds are absolutely marvelous. A stroll through them before or after the meal is highly recommended.
Service was however extremeeeeeeeeeely slow! I got my soup served promptly and i have to admit it was perfect as far as pumpkin soups go, however it took about an hour to get my appetizers! After appetizers were served it took something like another 45 minutes to get my mains! During the wait for the mains i was presented with the desserts menu with the waiter thinking i was done!
The appetizer sampler was quite good, however the seafood risotto was one of the worse i have had!
Prices are extremely high and while the ambiance and interiors are quite posh, the quality of food and promptness of service in no stretch of the imagination justify the price!

“Beautiful hotel on the beach, amazing restaurant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013 via mobile

One of the best grouper dishes I've had in a very well designed minimal setting. If only they would develop the road to this hidden paradise!

“Drinks and truffels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

If you are in muscat, visiting the Chedi to have some drinks is a must. The hotel is simply impresive. It is located near the beach and has a very relaxing atmosphere. The gardens, lighting and decoration are there to make you feel happy and relaxed. Even it is a quite expensive hotel the atmosphere is "warm". If you ask a gin tonic you will get the best almonds I have tried so far. And if you like chocolate ask for some truffels, they are delicious!

“Identity Crisis”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Many 'International' restaurants try too hard and would be far better off sticking to what they should be good at. This place falls into that category.

Food in the Middle East can be and often is wonderful and this restaurant should be no different. Offering mediocre versions of 'pad tai' as an example just shouldn't be on the menu.

Stick to the local fare and you'll be less disappointed. It still doesn't feel authentic however and is pandering to an international image that they simply don't need to.

“Amazing chef, shame on wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

The would be excellent restaurant service was let down by the wine --service and availability.

Food, strength in Indian and grill. Weak in steak (by London's top restaurant standard). We went to as a party of four. Steak 3/5. Indian 5/5. Should be a place as safe bet for food.

The huge disappointment comes in wine. When you walking in a place with huge ceiling level wine cella and dedicated wine room. Would you ever thought your dining would be spoiled by wine? For the first time, we did.

1: 2 out of 3 different order was not available. Price was around 60 to 80 pounds range.
2: when we did manage to find a bottle suits us. The taste far from the justification of the price. Poor the price you pay. And this was NOT the case for food!
3: none of the four waitrose/waitors that night were able to recommend a full body fruity wine on the wine list. One of them specifically asked us to 'read the wine menu'. Well, thanks.
4, no one ever bother if our wine glass was empty. They put the open bottle away from table and never come back to top us for the table until we have to ask.

Really?! This is from Chedi? I won't go back due to the wine. Sorry.
