Rooms:
Basic and small but modern rooms. The beds are quite comfy and there is a good range of international tv channels if you like to watch tv whilst away.

Staff:
After our room had not been cleaned on the 2nd day of our stay and three calls to front desk, at 8pm, jet-lagged, tired and wanting to eat and fall into bed we arrive at our room to find that beds had still not been made, bathroom had not been cleaned and there was no toilet paper or tissues! The third time I asked, I actually went down to the front desk and spoke with the manager who had the housekeeping issues sorted within 30mins. For a hotel who prides themselves on the '15minutes or for free' mantra- this really was disappointing.

Food & Internet:
Housekeeping issues aside, the hotel is reasonably priced for what it is and has the benefit of a restaurant downstairs (with nice international cuisine) for those nights when you're too jet-lagged to wander elsewhere. The buffet lunch is 8Riel and includes water, soft drink and juice and DESSERT. The wifi is weak in the rooms- particularly weak on our floor but is very strong and reasonably fast in the lobby.

Room Tip: No pool or spa. No air-con noise but doors seem to be paper thin- don't be surprised to hear sta...

I have stayed at the Ibis Muscat on a number of occasions and it continues to be my favoured choice when I visit Oman as it offers good value and does not have the feel of a real budget hotel. I have always stayed here on business but I would not hesitate in recommending for a base if you are in the country for exploring the city and beyond. If you are looking for a hotel to hang out in I would recommend looking for an alternative with more facilities including a pool.

As with all Ibis hotels there are few frills but everything you get is up to scratch. Front of house are always smiley and helpful and the basement parking is welcome if you are travelling by car. The rooms are standard Ibis spec but all of my visits have been clean and well maintained and have a safe, and an empty mini-fridge. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel although I have found the connection a bit slow on occasions.

The F&B is simple but of good quality, however the hotel, as with many in the Middle East, is dry but there is a pub and sports bar in the hotel accross the road. The breakfast is basic but good with a limited selection of hot and cold foods, I would favour the hotel for breakfast as the alternatives in the direct surrounding area are limited. There is also hypermarket called Lulu which is reachable from the hotel if you want to make use of the in room fridge. Overall the hotel provides good value in Muscat with the alternative 4 & 5 star hotels being considerably more expensive.

Room Tip: High level facing the sports fields

Typical Ibis hotel. Modern, clean with the usual set up. Good value by Omani standards. It is a little out of the way but there are other hotels and also restaurants in the vicinity. It does not have a bar but the hotel across the road does. Try a pint in the 'Churchill' bar. The new 'Grand' shopping mall is a 10 minute walk. It has a Tim Horton's coffee shop which should please Canadians. Be aware that taxis are a problem in Muscat. They are unmetered. You therefor have to bargain. Be prepared to get ripped off. The taxi booth at the airport charges 8R but if you flag one down it will be 6R. Also be aware that if you have a Dubai stamp in your passport you do not need to purchase a visa upon arrival in Muscat. Just go directly to passport control.

We stayed here for two nights and were very pleased with the customer service, state of the hotel and the entire experience in general. We have stayed at nearly a dozen Ibis hotels across Europe and North Africa and this Ibis is the nicest one we have stayed at so far. The room was clean and all the furniture was standard Accor Ibis-level equipment. The room was also equipped with a minibar, actually just a mini refrigerator which was a nice bonus and allowed us to purchase food for breakfast on the second morning. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water

We stayed on the third floor and had decent in room free WiFi (it slowed down a nightime which was peak usage and is normal). We also at breakfast one morning and dinner one night in the hotel. Dinner was quite nice with great customer service and standard Ibis cuisine - a low cost and tasty meal. They stock a full breakfast buffet in the morning plus early rise and late riser options. Finally, the car park, which we used, in the basement of the hotel is free, which is another bonus.

Final note - this Ibis also has quite a complete gym set up which is another added feature that I don't normally see in Ibis hotels. All around we found this to be quite a nice hotel; it is either fairly new or has been recently renovated.

Have stayed at Ibis before and was REALLY disappointed this time. Booked two rooms, when we went to the first room and opened the door there was someone already sleeping in the bed. When we opened the 2nd room the room was dirty from the previous guest still. We asked for 2 new rooms. One was okay, the second was billowing with tobacco smoke! Finally the 3rd try of a room was fine. In addition, we asked the front desk for tour suggestions, were give a lot of brochures and the the lady called in her friend who was "much less expensive" turns our her friends price was almost 80rs ($160+) more expensive than the actual tour company so we felt very taken advantage of by the front desk clerk! For compensation we asked for free breakfast for 3 adults, NO go even after such a terrible experience they said they would only give us one!! Wont recommend or stay here ever again as we do live in the region.

Room Tip: Food is average to slightly below average in quality and selection, but at a fair price. Breakfast...
