We go out with friends for lunch on a regular basis, exploring the Cotswolds and seeking out good restaurants on the way.
Unable to locate anything in Fairford that would meet our expectation, the postman recommended The Swan in Southrop just down the road.
We found the menus to be pretentious and over-priced but had already ordered our drinks by that time. However, sitting at a table in the sun on the Village Green provided a peaceful interlude, apart from the wasps, but the tables and benches were not really suitable for dining, let alone drinks, as the Village Green had a definite camber. It is rather odd that the pub uses the Village Green as its garden but then the only other outdoor seating is on the other side of the pub and not really desirable as the tables are close together and slap up against the road.
We weren't the only visitors who had intended to stop for lunch, before perusing the menu after having ordered drinks. We all left at the same time with the lame excuse that we had decided not to eat. We were ravenous but the lunch menu was a pretentious turn-off!
We can't rate the food but the owners seemed pleasant and welcoming and the interior of the pub was attractive.
Maybe, try a bit of pretention in the form of an evening meal one day? Who knows?
