“Wine Country Expertise and Wonderful Accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Serge and Stephanie are the most lovely hosts! Serge's knowlege of wine making and his connections in the region afforded us a spectacular experience in the Macau area. 12 of us rented the entire chateau for a week. We were in the area to run the Marathon du Medoc but we also went on fabulous vineyard tours (set up by our hosts) and had fabulous dinners prepared by Stephanie right there at the property. The pool in the backyard was a treat for all of us! The rooms are individually decorated and so tasteful! The restaurants in the area are wonderful. It's quite easy to get around and everyone is friendly and helpful! Do not miss this gem!

Room Tip: The room with the massage chair is awesome!

IT took a while to find it, but by this time in our tour de france, we were used to getting lost on the hopeless french road system!
Lovely couple who run this place have done a fantastic job at creating something very special and unique.
We had a room on the exterior ie you didnt have to go through the house to get to it, right next to the swimming pool. we stayed for 2 nights and despite another couple arriving, we had the pool to ourselves both days, which was heaven for us. Calm, tranquil, picturesque.
Stephanie is very warm and Serge so helpful- he arranged restaurant and vineyard bookings for us. We wish we had stayed for longer.
The only drawbacks would be that it is about a mile too far from the nearest restaurant, so someone has to drive. We can manage a mile/ mile and a half walk each way, but this was a little further. Another slight drawback is there is no TV in the room, though you are welcome in the main house, at the same time, you dont want to intrude on Serge and Stephs time alone. So, if you want a quiet evening, it can be a little difficult without actually going out somewhere
having said that, i completely appreciate this is the style of accomodation that they want to achieve, so im not looking to criticise at all, just to give visitors full view of expectations
we would love to visit again and explore more of the area.
Thank you Serge and Steph for welcoming us into your home

Upon arriving at 1.2.3 Chemin du bord de l'eau, my husband and I were terrified that we'd booked a 'doozer' of a B&B despite Trip Advisors recommendations...how wrong we were!!
While the external facade of the house is nothing special and clashes with the neighbouring chateaus typical of the gorgeous Medoc region, owners Stephanie and Serge couldn't have been nicer hosts and opened their home to us like we were part of the family. We visited during Easter so there were no, or very few restaurants open during our stay but thankfully Stephanie came to our rescue and cooked the most incredible meal for us, (grilled figs and goats cheese on toasted baguette to start, lobster to follow, Duck and vegetables for the main course and a delicious assorted plate of macaroons, biscuits and a mini strawberry and creme fraiche dessert)..and that was just the first nights meal!
Serge, Stephanie's husband, is a local wine connoisseur who also happens to be an incredible artist, cook (with his own published cookbooks) and savvy businessman. He matched our wines perfectly with the food and was such a gracious and personable host. We couldn't help but feel that we had struck it lucky arriving at Easter to sample their culinary talents and get to know them like long lost friends.

With regards to our room, while the bedroom was spacious and tastefully decorated, there was no TV and nowhere to chill out and relax other than in your room. Breakfast, (and dinner in our case), is served at the main table in the kitchen area, (there is no other option), and if there are other guests also staying at the house then you are more than likely going to be sharing the breakfast table with them. Again, fine for the two nights we were there but this could be intrusive to other guests wanting a little privacy. The only real negative during our stay was the occasional smell of cigarette smoke as S&S are both smokers. This wasn't exactly pleasant as non smokers, especially as we were also travelling with our 7 month old baby. On that note, they don't provide travel cots so take your own and there is no high chair for mealtimes.
Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable stay with great food and wine thrown in for good measure!

Room Tip: Ask for a view from your room and take your own travel cot if travelling with a baby.

As I moved back from the US to France for Vinexpo 2011, Serge and Stéphanie offered me the warmest welcome in their lovely and unexpectedly luxurious house. Staying there is the best opportunity for you to meet outstanding local vintners (Serge and Stéphanie's friends). Your eyes will discover a marvel in each detail of the decoration, your palate will find delight in the chef's specialties and enjoy top wines carefully selected by your hosts. Also the ideal place to rest and release your creativity.
Just go, you will not regret it!
