“Lots of positives, a few negatives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

Stayed in these apartments during Xmas week, as ski apartments go they were quite good. a reasonable size even for 4 adults and the location is brilliant, it is literally ski in ski out. Positives, largish size, good cooking facilities, plenty of hot water and good heating overall even has British channels on the tv, although this may be seen as a negative by some people.Negatives, the sofa bed in our room was broken on arrival, we had to make a bed on the floor using cushions and despite valiant efforts by our ski rep it took them 4 days to replace it. Overall it is reasonably quiet but the public lift was broken for the first few days which meant our walkway, 8th floor was the general thoroughfare for people trying to get to the main chalet area.
La Tania overall is a great family resort and the Xmas eve celebrations together with a firework display were well worth going to.Access to a fantastic ski area.
Would we go to La Tania again? Certainly, would we stay in the Grand Bois apartments ? Probably

Situated in a beautiful alpine village, this is a relatively quiet resort with relatively few snow boarders. The nursery slopes are quiet and gentle. The lifts take you to some of the best runs in the world. The green in La Tanya is more challenging than most but there are easier a bit further up in Courcheval.

Grand Bois hotel is perfect for door to slope skiing. There was a loud party here on our first night until 4am but the guests were rightly asked to leave the next day. The rooms have a dishwasher and microwave grill which helps. Lovely hot baths and showers for your ski legs. The local cafes and restaurants are lovely too.

All in all, I would recommend it to anybody.

We stayed in Grand Bois A in Jan 2012. The apartments are small as most budget ski apartments are, but the storage facilities for clothes, suitcases etc was ample meaning that what living space there was was usable, unlike some apartments I've stayed where we were constantly stepping over our luggage to get to bed etc. It was well equipped also with the usual kitchen utensils, but also had a toaster and a combined microwave/ normal oven, which make life easier when self catering.
There were even the basic BBC channels on the tv in the room, which entertains the kids whilst you're cooking.
Overall we were very pleased with the apartment's standard of cleanliness, how it was equipped and the layout, which was small but very functional.
With regards to its position, it is ski in/out for anybody but a complete beginner, but even then it would only be a short walk to the gondola or ski school meeting points.
La Tania is a very small resort with only a few bars and the normal ski hire/tobacconists/boulangerie and well stocked supermarket. If you're after a lot of night life this is not really for you, however there was live music in the two bars most nights of the week which was of a decent standard, but if you're not bothered too much this is a great resort to explore the three valleys from good budget accommodation. There are free drag lifts for beginners, and the gondola from below the Grand Bois can be accessed on a daily ticket to give access to a long green or blue back down to the resort, or even a decent red run, and if I remember rightly a short black, which is more than enough terrain if it is your first week, which would make this the ideal resort for a cheap first week, as you wouldn't necessarily have to lay out for the week's local lift pass; just buy the gondola pass as you progress.
To sum up, the Grand Bois are very good value for money, decently equipped, and in a very good ski in/out location, ideal for anyone from beginners to expert skiers as the area lift pass gives access to the whole of the three valleys.

Room Tip: Grand Bois A has excellent views from the balcony.

Genuine ski to & from the ski room in normal conditions. Building is a bit run down but you can't fault the location. Beware that the even numbers block has a public walkway along floor 10.
The walls in the apartments are paper thin, like a lot of budget French apartments.
We thought the apartment could have been cleaner & beware that you won't get any toilet paper or anything at all to clean with. Liked La Tania though :)

Room Tip: Avoid floors 9 to 11

This accommodation varies from room to room. However, it has the main requirements for a skiing holiday. Great beds, lots of hot water for aching muscles and ski to door.(if you count the lift down). Very clean and tidy and excellent value for money with great access to the three valleys would use again. Not much for non skiers and bus to other resorts is only hourly.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have microwaves and some have walk in showers rather than baths so may be worth statin...

Just returned back from the Grand Bois apartments in La Tania
Fantastic location just a 20 second ski to the main gondola making this ski in ski out.
We found the apartment fairly basic if your planning on eating in every night.
You have a microwave, 2 cooking rings, fridge and dishwasher. You can hire fondue cooking equipment but we were fine as we ate out most nights. The apartments are nice and warm and we had a great view over the piste.
If you are skiing/boarding everyday and want to make the most of the 3 valleys - these apartments are perfect. It's just two lifts up to the top of the mountain where you have 3 choices - Courchevel, Meribel or La Tania all on either green or blue runs. We took the 3 valley pass which was great as we we went afar making the most of it.
We rented our skis through Crystal and were given a voucher on the transfer coach to go across to ski set on arrival and collect them. The service at the ski shop was excellent and our lift pass was delivered by our rep to our apartment.
All in all fantastic holiday i would go back tomorrow!!

Room Tip: We had a room 918 - great views over the piste and down over the valley

The Grand Bois apartments are generally warm, simply furnished yet comfortable. Grand Bois A aparts (as opposed to B) have lovely views down the valley.
There can still be late night noise due to revellers returning from The Ski Lodge Bar about 100m away...However, we have previously stayed in Le Britannia apartments which are directly above The Ski Lodge -where live bands play until the early hours 4 nights a week...and although we were 6 or 7 floors above the bar the noise came up through the pipework and was dreadful!!! The Grand Bois aparts are nowhere near as noisy! (If like us, you go on a skiing holiday to ski, the last thing you need is disturbed sleep!)
Tips: Take basic foods like tea, coffee, herbs, spices etc with you as the only shop is a little expensive and if you calculate roughly how much of each of these you'll need you won't use too much of your baggage allowance and you'll save money. (We bag up portions of rice, pasta, cous-cous for evening meals -as well as choc/cereal bars etc for the days skiing -but I'm perhaps a bit obsessional!)
Someone in a previous review suggested that La Tania might be a bit limited for beginners or more advanced skiers. If you're a bit nervous/timid as a beginner I think this might be true. However, intermediate and advanced skiers will find blue, red and black runs within a gondola ride and a further chairlift will take you to a wealth of runs either on the Courcheval side or the Meribel/Mottaret side and beyond...You can even get to Val Thoren and back in less than a day as an 'early intermediate'!
