“Best to avoid as plenty to chose from in this area.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2009

Firstly the staff were good; the reception and restaurant area is pleasant enough.

We were travelling around England for a few days and chose to stay here as it is just outside Chester. The location is fine but when we got to our room all I can say is that there was not a single thing that was anything above disappointing.

The room had a strange smell.
The windows should have been removed 30 years ago.
The decoration was shabby.
The furniture was tatty and tired.
The TV was a set on the floor so only one person can see it.
The walls were paper thin (and I mean thin).

If I had not pre-paid via a third party then I would have left and taken my chances. I was there one night so it was bearable.

The frustrating part is that this is a 4 Star Hotel and a Best Western which I thought should represent a certain standard which as you will have gathered in my opinion this hotel fell well short of any such mark. I would advise you avoid this hotel which is massively overpriced for the standard and those cheap night travel hotels have a higher standard. I have stayed in other 4 star hotels in Chester and they are worth paying the extra if required to do so.

I am sorry to be so negative but on this occasion I see little choice.

Stayed 2 nights for Chester horse racing, £99 DB&B very good value. 2 miles outside Chester. Had a bit of trouble with noise from other thoughtless guests, but room was roomy & clean. Food in restaurant was average on the set menu, but nice. Piano player in the lounge on Saturday night made the evening more enjoyable. Leisure facilities were good, although the mens sauna & jacuzzi were not working. Would stay again.

Excellent Service, Excellent Room, Excellent Food - perfect weekend. Booked with Laterooms and was upgraded, got an excellent deal with bed breakfast and evening meal. Reception staff were lovely as were all the waiters/waitresses in the restaurant. Used the pool and facilities, good car park, good location for zoo and town - impressed and would definitely return.

weve just got home from 2 nights here and had a lovely time. we booked on the morning we went through hotelsconnect cos they were cheapest and everything was fine - im always a bit dubious when we need a cot!
check in was quick and simple and the room we had was fine - plenty of space even with a cot. the pillows were nice and thick too which for me was fantastic! everything was really clean and tidy including the bathroom, which again was plenty big enough with a shower over the bath. and nice shower gel and handwash!
breakfast was great - plenty of fruit, cereal and toast you could help yourself to and a freshly cooked breakfast to order - the sausages were gorgeous!
the staff were always friendly and helpful and were quite happy to provide me with milk each night for my daughter, even offering to warm it.
we went swimming in the afternoon - it was really quiet, with a separate shallow toddler area. plenty of space to change a nosy toddler who wants to investigate at every opportunity too!
we visited chester zoo and the blue planet aquarium - both were about 10 minutes away and really easy to find. it was great to arrive at the zoo before it opened and be able to stay all day, knowing there was so little travelling! chester city centre was just as close but we didnt visit.
all in all a good hotel in a great location which we would definately stay in again.

mollington banastre hotel is diamond in the rough, with is warm friendly atmosphere. To often people always seem to comment on the bad experiences they have, never the good ones. my partner and i were looking for a weekend away from all the hussle an bussle ,..some were quiet and relaxing. ..,and thats what we had . The room was immaculate and cosy that we had room service the first night.(food was lovely.)
The next day we spent having spa treatments and relaxing by the pool . the beautiful grounds are lovely to sit out and have lunch (rabbits on the lawn). They realy are picturesque. we had are evening meal in the restaurant what friendly staff even tho it was full the staff didnt faulter with there service( when we finished are meal the waiter served our coffee in the lounge.) we had break fast in bed with news papers complementery. chester town centre only 5mins away we were told at reception to take a taxi as parking in chester was dificult and exspensive. overall our stay was everything we wanted plus more. The only problem we had was that we couldnt stay longer . we carnt waite to see the grounds in the winter(booked to go stay in dec) A BIG THANK YOU to all the staff at the mollington for a wonderful weekend away. mollington is a must for anyone wanting that something special.
