“Nice hotel, reasonably priced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

About 5 minutes by car, just on the outskirts of Chester. We have been to Chester many times and this time wanted somewhere pet friendly as we wanted to take our dog. Nicely decorated although some parts did look a little bit tired, but nothing excessive. We had an executive room and the room was fine. Our friend who came with us had a standard double and did comment that his did look a bit tired. All the staff were really friendly and always spoke to you when they seen you. Lovely grounds so plenty areas to walk the dog. Cant comment on the food as we only had breakfast, but there was plenty to chose from and it was constantly being topped up. I would stay here again as I left it was good value for money and not too far to travel in to town, either by car or taxi.

Stayed here for two nights, it is really not a 4 star hotel, an average 3 star hotel at best, from the carpet and furnishings it is trying to disguise itself as a retirement home, but never the less it was an amusing stay. The key had to be renewed each day at the reception desk midnight wiped its memory, my girlfriend an myself enjoyed a 2 minute fight with the door when ever we tried to enter the room. I am not saying that the walls between the rooms are thin, but Monika and Rich had a very bad wedding day, their sandwiches were stale and Rich should have been more helpfull with Monika's hair extensions (apparantly he was "sitting there like a s******") Amusing at most times but not at 2.30AM, unfortunatly there was nobody at reception answering the phone to help us out with this. The gym was good, and we were very lucky that we had the pool to ourselves, then we realised it was because the pool was a bit too cold.. bear in mind that I like open water swimming, and the pool was cold. Lets move on to the bar, my girlfriend asked for a Margarita, only to be told that they had sold the last one earlier.....We had some bar food that was ok, but from a four star hotel I want better than OK. Overall this was an average hotel stay with good and bad bits but we paid a premium for a four star hotel and this really was not it....

Dear Al_Grantham,

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel on this site. As mentioned before the hotel is undergoing a major planned maintenance programme where the areas highlighted in your review are being incorporated. There is no excuse for a Margarita not being served to you at the bar and I apologise for the same.

As far as the pool is concerned it is currently undergoing annual maintenance which is the cause for the drop in temperature. On a positive note I am glad you enjoyed the facilities our gym offered.

Kind Regards

Christmas and what a good excuse to have a girlie weekend away to chester, bit of retail therapy and as a treat a 4* star hotel and spa.
Pulling up in the car to the hotel, we had to question if we were at the correct place as the front did not reflect the pictures on the web page.
We had asked for two adjoining rooms but when we recieved our keys we were on two different floor.
In general the hotel was tired and in need of a refurb. The corridors were dark, tatty and unclean. The rooms were not much better either. On the first night we had the lovely sounds of grunts from the adjoining door of our neighbour snoring. The 2nd night we had no heating and the room freezing, on complaining to receiption a little man came to and told us the heating was broken and he would ask for a heater for the room. this did not happen even though we asked on two occasions.
On check out we informed the receiptionist of our dissatisfaction of being cold in our room and she was totally disinterested.Hense we will not recommed or will return....

Room Tip: we stayed on the back of hotel window was un glazed cold and noisy

Dear michelle b

Thank you for taking the time to review this hotel on trip advisor. Having investigated your comments it has come to light that one of the boilers tripped during the night which caused the failure in the heating to your rooms and a few others. Even though this was beyond our control you still should have received a heater in your room for this I would like to apologise.

Should you visit Chester in the very near future I would like to invite you back so that we could change your percetion of the hotel.

Kind Regards

Terrible stay here... My daughter had booked us a spa day to celebrate my birthday.. There were four of us and things went from bad to worse..No booking found in spa, freezing changing rooms hence we didn't go for a swim. The lunch was like being served in a café and got order completely wrong.. Went up to rooms, corriders very shabby and freezing, rooms where okay but mine and my daughters was freezing as we let gran have the warmest.. They said we will get you a heater WHAT...... THIS IS 4STAR.....I can go on and on, couldn't make cocktails, drunk asleep on sofa in lounge, breakfast 30mins wait and was cold... We will not be returning and this is one to avoid... Sorry but you need to up your game.......

Room Tip: Ground floor are more modern, we were in 35 and heard banging doors all night...

My fiance and I have just got back from a one night stay here. First thing to say immediately is that all the negative comments on here, from our experience, are absolute nonsense. We stayed on the £90 a night deal complete with free access to gym, pool and other facilities as well as a 3 course evening meal and breakfast. Having read a lot of reviews on here prior to our visit we were a bit worried and to be honest expecting the worse but fortunately they turned out be untrue. OK, fair enough the hotel photo is taken from the "other" side of the hotel, but the "other" side is pleasant enough anyway with ample parking and buildings in keeping with the local Cheshire surroundings. From first arrival the staff were all attentive and polite. Not a single complaint there. Our room was spacious, comfortable, warm and had good views. Because a lot of people were saying the hotel is "dated" we purposely looked out for signs of that and apart from the very odd small bit of ripped wallpaper that you would never notice, the whole place was well decorated and pleasant throughout with a nice, relaxing and quiet atmosphere. We used the gym, pool and jacuzzi, all excellent. Bar is spacious, well stocked (good selection of whisky) and comfortable with excellent staff, however ever so slightly expensive I thought (£4 for a single whisky). The restaurant has excellent service, is also spacious, relaxing and with good views. My only complaint is that the food (evening meal) is not up to standard as would be expected for the standard observed throughout the rest of the hotel. It was the small details in the food that were slightly disappointing such as presentation and the use of un-fresh ingredients in some dishes as well as overcooked meat/ fish. However, if you like average pub food then it is fine. Had the evening meal been as good as the rest of the experience, I would be putting excellent on the review. The breakfast was excellent. Full buffet style cooked breakfast as well as cereals, yoghurts, fruit etc. Again service was excellent. In summary, please do not be put off by negative comments on here as they are grossly exaggerated. You will be in for a pleasant stay but I wish the food was slightly better!

We had a very nice one night stay at this hotel. The room was comfortable although perhaps a little tired and getting ready for a refurb. I understand a massive refurb is imminent at this hotel. The leisure facilites are superb and the staff are very efficient, friendly and attentive. We had both an evening meal and breakfast during our stay and i would say both were of a high standard. The lounge area is very spacious and comfortavle and ideal for chilling out. All in all a hotel I would definitely recommend and stay at again.

Room Tip: Our room was a little tire,d perhaps because we were on a freebie reward from our mobile phone suppl...

On no account go for a Sunday lunch at this Hotel!
My wife and I went on a Living Social Deal for £19 for 3 course Sunday Lunch for two. Prior to us going we offered to increase our party to Six we were told that this was not possible for this offer and we would have to pay the full price of £16.95 per person.
We arrived at 12.15 for our reservation for 12.30. We were shown to our table and ordered our pre lunch drink. The service to be honest was good. The atmosphere was none existent as we and another table of four were dining and nobody else. Incidently, who also were also on a Living Social Deal. Starter to be fair was reasonable, wife had soup and I had Grilled Sardine on a bed of salad. Roast Beef was pre portioned, pre packed and boiled and not roasted as suggested on the menu, with choice of well done or well done. This tickled us, the table of four whilst ordering asked for their beef to be well done and the waitress told them she would ask the chef to serve theirs from the end. I would have liked to see the chef carve their from the end as I used a fork to flake mine into pieces. This was served with rubbery roast potatoes and watery brocolli and cauliflower, the yorkshire pudding was dry and of cardboard texture. Cheese board was served with wilted unwashed celery. The Red Velvet Chocolate Cake was a dry chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce poured over the sponge and an over-scattering of cocoa powder.
Toilets both Ladies and Gents for the restaurant were in-operable. We were directed to the only one toilet available situated at the other end of the hotel sharing with the leisure facility. This was also used by both female and male and had no paper towels and un-flushable.
Overall a bad experience. From a quality hotel which we attended for our niece's wedding ten years ago to a hovel. We were glad that they decline our offer to increase our party.

Room Tip: Don't eat there!
