The two night stay was a Christmas treat from our daughters in what was described as an executive double room bed and breakfast and one dinner.
We received correspondence the week before our stay from Deal Monster to inform us of building work which should not distract from our stay.
On arriving the outside of the hotel resembled a building site with scaffolding and a mound of old furniture, beds etc.
Our allocated room no 29 was via dirty corridors and an assortment of building work in progress, cabling running along the walls, passing the open doors of the laundry with all its glory which stayed open for the two days of our stay.
The room was best described as large but dated, two single beds, settee with two single beds joined to make the double. The furniture was well past its best and some only fit for a bonfire. The view out of the windows was blocked by scaffolding, work men stated early each morning and stayed on until the evening, including Good Friday.
The kettle could only be plugged in by a socket under the furniture, the bathroom curtains had been removed with mould on the frames. The outside of the shower ties were loose and invested with ants, once you turned on the water you could not turn it off unless you had a wrench, our complaint to reception fell on deaf ears.
The evening meal was very average, wine over priced by at least by 200% and not even poured by the waiter. Taking into account the first night meal and the extra charge of £2.50 that they were imposing for each side dish we decided to eat out for our second evening with the hotel.
Breakfast was tasteless and bacon over cooked on the first morning, the second morning we played safe with the omelette.
The visit to the spar was a very cold pool (boiler believed to be still broken) which you could not swim in.
Having stayed in many hotels over many years this has got to be in one of the poorest in all areas that you would expect for the tariff that they charge, had this not been a family gift we would have left the same day. When the hotels do complete their renovations they will have to raise their game if they are to attract customers.
Give this hotel a miss, it will not be hard find a better hotel with better value

First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review, feedback is a vital part of our business and as such is taken very seriously.
I also would like to thank you for your comments regarding the décor; I apologise if on this occasion we were unable to meet your expectations.
Crabwall Manor has been neglected by its previous owners and we are working really hard so as to bring the hotel back to its former glory. Although not an excuse this would explain the scaffolding outside your bedroom.
I have passed your comments onto our head chef, our new menu is going live next week and any issue you encountered during your stay is now resolved.
I am confused by your comments about the spa being cold and a boiler still broken? Our boilers are brand new and have been installed last September. Since then we never had any issue.
Overall I would like to apologise if on this occasion we did not meet your expectations.
Our refurbishment is now half completed and I am very much looking forward welcoming you back very soon.
